My T is extremely busy and can only see me once a month >< Any suggestions on what I can do to cope in between sessions?

Yes, that can seem like forever can't it? Welcome to psychcentral, btw. I don't know how big or connected your "system" is... or anything about you really. How long have you been DID? What do you know about your other "parts?" What do you do NOW for coping when things feel overwhelming?
Many find that journaling, or picture pasting (from magazines) or drawing or coloring by different parts help share information with the T... and allows the T to know some of the issues that arise in between sessions. Does your T allow email, or faxes, or for you to leave messages on an answering machine? Sometimes knowing you can contact your T inbetween session helps you cope with the weeks in between. Come back and post often. There are many members here who have much information to offer.

Once a month is too long. Are parts out of control? Do you have any other support persons that know about your parts and understand? (don't tell anyone unless you've really thought it out- it never worked out for the better with anyone that found out my dx). it's really difficult. There are books to read if your parts will let you- like "the DID Sourcebook" by Haddock. Sidran is an org. that has a website and book list. Sometimes you can buy books on e-bay. some people can journal or do art work. we're afraid to look at parts writing but we sometimes journal on the computer. Even t. doesn't help for us . it's hard. Most of the things we do to distract us from being upset get us in more trouble. Try to let your schedule be filled with things that parts enjoy doing. That is too long. Wow...what to do in-between? Isn't there any way T can see you more often?? This seems like a pretty crucial time. Did you try raising cane with T? lol May get a response. Sky gives good advice. I do know you don't get a lot of feedback from the others. Hmmm...let me think on it a while. You can pm if it helps. Take care. place

I'd suggest you find a T that suits you & your needs. & your needs include having sessions more often. If you can't switch T's now or you really like your T, post here as much as you can. You have options to PM me or others here. If you have a hobby, try doing that more. Taking walks outside can really help a person. Just some ideas.

Thanks everyone for you feedback! It is greatly appreciated! I was diagnosed with BPD in Dec of 04 and then shortly into the new year diagnosed with DID as well!
I haven't learned how to communicate with the rest of me (my parts) but I'm trying! They seem to have a mind of their own right now and don't wanna talk to me ![]() My T also said to me that I shouldn't be doing any research about either of my diagnosis until I see her again in a month b/c it may trigger me! How I am NOT suppose to research about something that has to do with ME? She says I should concentrate on "mindfulness" to try and better understand myself! I like my T and she does allow me to call her if I need to! I would get another T but I am being referred to a specialist who specifically helps people with BPD/DID and should begin to see him soon....I hope! I do have support from my partner of 4yrs and she is understanding of everything that has happened! She has told me that she has been in contact with my other parts and my partner is still standing by my side...that must count for something! The only thing that helps me to cope right now is Ativan! It mellows me out but for the most part it makes me like duuuuuuh! I have started to journal, but it doesn't seem to be doing much good! If ANYONE has any suggestions about ANYTHING could you please let me know?!!! Thanks! ~ Kendra ~ |
