I was fired from my new job which lasted 2 months only. I was told that I was not a fit. I knew why, during those 2 months I had been having weird experiences. I would forget a conversation I just had either in person or by phone, I forget peoples names and faces, then what makes it more weird. I would go and retrieve the mail and upon returning back to my cubicle. I felt lost and disoriented and I felt I was having an out of body experience as I try to find my way back to my cubicle. Also while I'm driving I totally lose memory of where I am going that I have to pull over and think hard where was I suppose to go.
I told this to my doctor and she believe I am going thru Dissociation. I also told her On a rare occasions I would hold objects in my hand and not feeling nor acknowledge I'm holdind something. MRI, Cat Scan, & EKG reveal nothing. My fear that it could occur again when I find another job. I felt so stupid at the job and they probably thought I was stupid. Any thoughts? |

Hi Angel Pie,
I'm glad you talked to your doctor and she said it was dissociation.I have found grounding myself can help with it or changing scenery or listening to music .Your not stupid! You deserve to be heard and understood.Im sorry you were fired from your job.I would suggest getting a therapist or looking up grounding techniques and seeing if you can manage any of them ![]() take care LadyRain |

example in me what you posted can be any one or more of my mental and physical health problems. some show up on tests others they dont. bottom line is if your treatment provider said it was dissociation then thats what it is in you unless your treatment provider says differently. just keep working with your treatment providers and you will soon be feeling better. dissociation is one of those things that has many different treatments and it gets better with treatment not worse. but like any other treatments it may take a bit for you and your treatment providers to find what works with you.. |

Angel Pie, cute name... anyway, sounds to me, based on the limited information that you were able to provide, that it is likely your doctor is correct.

Antisocial personality disorder Borderline personality disorder Dependent personality disorder Histrionic personality disorder Paranoid personality disorder Schizoid personality disorder Schizotypal personality disorder Schizophrenia Bipolar... and those are just the ones I can think of that they got wrong. Just because a treatment provider dumps a label on you doesn't mean it fits. Too many of us around here have been harmed by treatment providers who went into psychology to escape their own demons and rushed a diagnosis.

Trust the all-knowing treatment provider!
![]() It does sound like dissociation to me. I can totally relate to what you've written--I've had those types of experiences at a previous job when I was under a great deal of stress. I'm really glad you and your doctor have taken steps to rule out physical causes. I would say educate yourself as much as you can. It is possible to find reliable information out there and weed out the crap. It just takes diligence. Use what you learn to "test" your treatment providers. Ask questions. Most importantly __find someone experienced and trained to work with dissociative disorders__. I can't stress this enough. Ask them what their qualifications are. Your mental health is worth it.

It was dissociation for me- I have had similar issues with work. I have had a general therapist who was a clinical psychologist for a long time, and had a bunch of neurological testing and imaging done too... in the end I found a dissociation specialist. It makes a very big difference.

Stress, anxiety and life are good reasons for dissociation. There can also be physical reasons too....tiredness, hormonal imbalance, medication, nutrional reasons....
Have you experienced trauma? One can be experiencing dissociation....but the reasons why can be numerous. This is the question...why? Good luck and I hope that you find your answers. Please keep leting us know what you find out or ask more questions....you can be helping another out. ![]() |

Well regarding trauma, I was molested as a child in a 8 year time frame, I was bullied (physically & verbally) from the first day in Kindergarten up until High School almost every single day, then at home from the age of 5 thru 13, I was physically, verbally, & emotionally abuse by my older sibling who was 13 years older than I was. All these 3 events all occurred in the same time frame. There was an incident where my adult sibling slammed me hard hard against the wall (my head bounced twice on wall)after punching & kicking me. 2 days after, I would walk into a room not knowing how I got there. I remember from Point A and walking up at Point B with no recollection in between. After that, off and on holding objects in my hand and not be aware of it. I am not sure I wonder if a new job was too stressful for me that prompted those symptoms. |
