Has anybody else tried to lose weight and really struggled? I am not overweight as such, but I am a little too curvy for my liking. I gained weight because a doctor put me on a medication that is known for extreme weight gain, and didn't bother to inform me of this side effect. So I've gone from being between 52kg- 54kg, to fluctuating between 60 and 73kg.

I have been wanting to lose weight for a while now, and I really struggle for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I like eating. I'm not a food addict, but growing up where food wasn't always an option I've come to rely on it emotionally.

The second reason I struggle is being depressed, which in turn makes me unmotivated. I have tried so many times to get a friend to join me for walks, etc., because I know that will help me get the enthusiasm to get up and out of bed, and most of my depression stems from extreme lonliness. but constant bailing ends up getting me down and I lose that enthusiasm.

In saying all that I've done reasonably well, and I'm hoping I can get to my goal by Christmas so I can buy new clothes with my Christmas money (and hopefully won't allow myself to get bigger again because I won't be able to fit into my clothes). I started attempting yet again to lose weight, on the 22nd of October I weighed between 65.3kg and 64.7kg, and on the 11th of November I weighed 62.5kg. *beats chest* I'm aiming first for 60kg, then 57kg, and then I'll see how I feel about myself and if I want to lose more. I don't want to be as thin as I used to be, but I don't want to be this size ever again.

Is there anyone else in the process of losing weight, whether it be a little bit or a lot? If so, what things work for you to help you lose the weight and keep yourself motivated to keep doing so?

I have, in the past, ditched the scale. I'm currently in the, maintaining weight loss category. But my motivation, was a pinched sciatic nerve, and squeezing in an exercise routine that was in between the school bus for my kids and needing to get to work. Little by little, I unpinched that nerve, and noticed weight loss, then i added a friendly to my back ab routine(due to old tailbone injury), almost three years later, weight is off, been off for a long time.

Hope you are able to healthily reach your goal.
Thanks for this!

The last time I lost weight it was by a process of consuming no more than a set amount of daily calories, estimating calories of everything I ate and tallying calories on scratch paper each day. I eventually became weary of doing that, and usually wound up not being able to eat anything in evenings having reached my max at dinner. Also, I took daily walks. Since then, I've gained considerable weight after quitting that, especially after taking less walks. Like you, I like to casually eat without thinking too much about it. Maybe I'll try a gym membership.

I hate my weight gain at the moment.

It's completely related to my seroquel. . Damn stuff. Damned if I take it. Damned if I dont.

In all honesty I could be making an effort but I'm not too bothered. Just yet.

I guess when I really want to I would go to gym and devise a more healthy eating plan and lifestyle. When I'm ready.

With these sorts of things it's mostly willpower - you've got to be very mentally strong and it's not that people are incapable of that, it's just that it's exhausting to maintain.

What i'm doing is eating mildly unhealthy food but not a lot of it and then just exercising a lot. To me it seems the best compromise - i'm not eating garbage but i'm not having to wolf down foliage most of the time either. And exercise is always a plus regardless of your fitness levels etc. It's also having results. I'm losing the weight slowly and having time to adjust both mentally and physically to a new body.

Just find what works for you. We all have different ways of losing weight - so long as it's not too unhealthy/results focused that's as much as we can ask for i think.

We all know how to eat healthily it’s just finding a way that works for you. I have found the regime above takes minimal effort. Below is my regime in a nutshell. I find it easy to follow & it keeps me at a healthy & good looking weight. I dont see it as a diet, it’s more of a lifestyle, which is important as diets never last.
Drink plenty of water
Have purechimp super tea once a day
Eat healthily in the week & enjoy treats at the weekend
Pick brown over white for grains
Exercise at least 3 times a week

You would have to lose 2lbs a week to lose that amount in 2 months. Cardio is a great fat burner.

Lift (light) weights first, for about 20-30 mins, or however long you can last. Then, move on to cardio. There is a reason for this.

Lifting weights relies mostly on energy from Carbohydrates in your blood stream (Glucose), while cardio relies on both Carbs and Fat. So, if you lift weights first, you will drain your blood stream of Carbs. Then, when you do cardio, guess what's the dominant energy source ? Fat.

Also, burning fat relies HEAVILY on a LOT of Oxygen (hence the association between fat and aerobic exercise). So, make sure to breathe well and regularly while exercising, in general. The better you breathe, the more your body will be able to burn fat. If you don't breathe well, you'll burn some fat and a lot of Carbs. In a nutshell.

There's a lot more to it than that, but trust me - this will make a big difference Source - the last 7 years of my life.

I think that if you're serious about achieving that goal, you'll do whatever it takes to get there. But, if you simply have a shallow goal one where you heart is not that involved into it, you will not get far. Laziness, discouragement, procrastination, and demotivation will be allowed to slip in which in turn will ruin your weight loss goal. I would suggest you to start off by giving it your very best because at some point you will cross a threshold in which there is no turning back.
