I had to throw out the little bottles of alcohol that I got for christmas, flavored. too much temptation here. I reach for them and picked up an apple instead. Had a big dinner but did not drink

160 cal Potato soup
120 yogurt
140 oatmeal
70 small apple
70 handful of almonds
200 popcorn
total for dinner=760 calories
but I did not drink alcohol!

I have really developed a taste for the Harris Teeter fat free vanilla frozen yogurt. 88g (2/3 cup) with 7g pecan pieces is 180 calories and does a really good job of satisfying my sweet tooth. I still have about 200 calories left for today. I may have some more oatmeal later.

I’m on an antibiotic for supposed Lyme disease. It makes me nauseous if I don’t eat enough with it so I’ve been eating more carbs than usual in the morning and evening. Today I was so upset about starting work again tomorrow that I treated myself to breakfast AND lunch, but I didn’t go extremely unhealthy. Egg McMuffin for breakfast and panera soup for lunch with apple on the side. All in all not too bad. I’m not gonna drinkthis weekend so hopefully I won’t binge again. I don’t go to super bowl parties or drink when I have to work the next day so I should be good. I didn’t lose any weight last week (well, .2 lb) but I didn’t gain either so that’s good. Hoping for a loss this week if I can stay in track.

My friend Susan is cooking dinner for me thursday night, I am to bring fruit. Maybe I should just bring strawberries. They are a low calorie/carb fruit.
I will have lunch at noon and stop eating at 8pm to start another fasting period of time 16 hours.
She is newly divorced and is adjusting to her townhouse and being alone.
Forgot about the super bowl coming up this sunday we usually do something anti superbowlish but she may be working, will find out tomorrow. Jeff is watching the game with some guys.
I work saturday out of town, usually have McDonalds oatmeal but theirs is so fattening! Will have grilled chicken with guacamole, I think I will have the oatmeal! Even though it has a lot of sugar it is still healthier than other side options.
LOL I am always thinking about my next meal! it is only wednesday and I am thinking about my lunch on saturday!!!!
Tomorrows lunch I am hoping for some greek food at the health food store that I eat at 4 days a week....maybe egg plant casserole mousaka, my favorite...will find out tomorrow.
Today I met my friends and had a very quick bite to eat at panera.
It was a chicken lentil/rice quinoa bowl with miso broth. I had them add an egg for more protein. It was very good. I think the miso had a lot of sodium so I might not want to get on the scale tomorrow.

170.2 this morning; the downward trend continues. I have started flavoring my morning yogurt with chocolate PB2, using 4 tbs in 8 oz of fat free plain yogurt. It adds 8 grams of protein and tastes really good (if you like PB and chocolate). I have switched back to regular yogurt instead of Greek; much cheaper, blends better and I am getting protein from the PB2 that makes up a lot of the difference. Also had a banana and whole wheat toast. Lunch is a salad with turkey breast that comes in under 150 calories, leaving me room for a late morning packet of oatmeal, plus a fun size candy bar as a snack. Even with all that, I will still have about half my calories left for dinner and night snacks. My calorie goal is 1520, though I should probably recompute that at my current weight.

EDIT - I recomputed and now it is 1500 per day, which is MFP's minimum for men, and my projected rate of loss is 0.9 pounds per week. I entered that I wanted to lose a pound a week, but it won't give me a number below 1500.

I stuck to my 8 hour window of eating but over ate for a snack at whole foods trivia night in the bar. I drank 2 fattening beers and ate berry cheese cake. before 8;30pm.
sigh
I work tomorrow and will have a sensible lunch.
Tomorrow night is the first mardi gras parade for the season. We are going to a cook out and then hear a band play at 9pm...pretty late for old farts like us!

I now weigh 180. I have been here before, so I will take this seriously when I remain there. I had 2400 calories. I really need to watch the desserts. I need to eat the food first, and at the end of the day, determine whether I can eat a dessert. I do not want this weight gain to get out of control.

I hate to hear that. You can start fresh with a new day with zero calories. I have my work cut out for me today. I’m going to a Super Bowl party.

We went to a mardi gras party before the parades.
There was a whole table full of good food.
I had stopped by whole foods on the way home and had 2 beers in a short amount of time. Then one more at the party.
But I ate:
chicken and part of a pork steak.
mac and cheese, 2 different kinds
spicy green beans, think tabasco
3 lemon bars, one was a raspberry bar.
fruit, pinaple and keywee and straw berries and blueberries.
king cake a small slice.
It doesn't sound too too bad now that I look at it. Just had been really good about portion control and not over eating.
I think having the beer ahead of time made it too easy to over eat and derail my diet. Poor decisions on my part.
Before heading home I bought some hard sparkling adult beverage with only 100 calories and a hint of grapefruit. They are called truly, a 6 pack.
Which means that I was planning to drink more than just last night.
Sigh
My resolve went out the window.
I knew this would happen during mardi gras which is until fat tuesday Feb-13th then lent begins(ash wednesday which is also valentines day) and I will give up alcohol for lent which ends with easter.
I drank 3 beers total so that was not horrible!

170.0 this morning, still slowly clawing lower. At 164, my BMI will be 24.9. Should be there sometime in March, maybe early April.

I made a full size chicken pie for dinner. I have to estimate; my slice was not very big but with crust top and bottom, I went with 500. Probably in the ballpark. Still having oatmeal as often as I can; twice today. Will be interesting to check LDL in a few weeks. Between adding oatmeal and no longer having full fat yogurt, I am hoping it will drop under 100.

So, I have been reading up on adaptive thermogenesis - metabolism dropping as you lose weight. The figures I have seen widely quoted are a drop of under 10%. but it looks like some studies are finding drops of more like 20-25%:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3673773/
My own anecdotal experience doesn't seem to bear this out though. I have lost over 50 pounds and currently eat about 500 calories less per day than predicted burn. I lose about a pound a week, which makes sense if you do the math 7X500=3500 and a deficit of 3500 will cause a pound of fat loss (conversely, overeating by 3500 calories will cause a 1 pound gain in fat). If I had a significant drop in metabolism, I would be losing weight more slowly. When I gained back the weight I lost in the past, it was bingeing and generally overeating that did it.

I still believe I can make the lifestyle changes to keep it off.

My problem lately is that I deprive myself of what I want to eat until I can't take it anymore and then I eat everything I've been craving, and then some. It's not working out too well for me.
