do you get many trick or treaters around halloween?

how do you like to deal with them?

where I live their arn't many- most of them that do come around tap on the window and wait for me to open the door

but I don't. I just wait until they pass and keep all the candy for myself

how do you deal with them
Thanks for this!

I live in an apartment, but a few trick or treaters do come around, mostly really little kids. I've decorated my door for Halloween. I'll probably leave a bowl of candy outside my door so the kids can take what they want.

We just moved to this neighborhood and there seems to be a lot of grade school children. I will probably buy a bag of candy and answer the door for an hour or so but then it's lights out and watching a scary movie with my husband.

When I was still married we lived in a town with lots of kids so we always had
candy on hand for them. Now I live in a condo on the bay and there are not many
kids around here. I will get some candy anyway just in case.
I like to see kids have a good time on Halloween.

I get more people hitting deer or crashing into my mailbox than I do trick or treaters. I live on a main drag in the boonies so we don't get too many visitors. However, I always convince my wife that "this is the year" so we load up on candy and I eat most of it later. I usually suggest the kids like Butterfinger and Nestles Crunch.

I live in an apartment. No children here but the building is across the street from a very large low-income housing estate. Most of the tenants donate candy to the caretaker who in turn sits at the front door handing out candy to those kids who come by. He really gets into it, decorating the building and front lawn. Meanwhile I decorate my door, patio and windows.

We get a few. Hubby and I dress up, answer the door, and pass out the goodies. The little "monsters" are so cute.

Like RJ, I live out in the boonies. Not a lot of school age kids around here. The few that there are, the parents load them in the car a drive them into town to trick or treat. What we have are yahoos who get drunked up, then go out in the yard and shoot off guns. I lock the horses in the barn and the cats and dog in the house Halloween night to keep everyone safe.

RJ, I like your philosophy about buying candy for the kids. I think I need to stock up on Baby Ruth and Reese's cups for the trick or treaters!

I love seeing the little kiddies come to my door, all dressed up as fairy princesses and Disney characters. It brings me back to my youth and how I adored trick or treating.

It's, however, when the 15-16 year olds come along, hardly dressed up at all in fact, that I draw the line, turn off my lights, and recede to my bedroom and finish off what's left of the candy myself. This happens around 9:00 or so. Our neighborhood has an HOA that issues a suggested cutoff time and/or curfew for such purposes, as well as for safety.

Besides, most little kids are usually done with their trick or treating and at home, either in bed or tallying their haul by 9:00. It's the older kids, who may or may not be up to mischief and mayhem, that are mostly out past 9.

Life is disgusting here. But I just wanted to say, if you miss trick or treating due to advancing age, try picking up some of the huge Halloween bags of good stuff. The Nestles bag, and the Mars bag!

The Hershey's bag didn't interest me much the other week.

The fun size candy bars in these bags are the perfect size. I ate 3 or 4 pieces a pop until it was all gone!

I do regret I don't get to see kids costumes but TV helps. I love Halloween chocolate bags, and candy corn, taffy, the works!

Regarding teenagers still trick or treating. Wouldn't you rather see them enjoy the day by going house to house than attending some sketchy drug and booze filled party full of scantily clad party goers?

(read somewhere)

I live in a condo that is mostly a retirement community (I'm only 29 but love the quietness of my neighbors) so no trick or treaters. I do miss it though. Maybe I'll go to my dads house this year and hand out candy. I love seeing all the kids dressed up, it reminds me of when I was young. And yes I went trick or treating with friends when I was 15! I totally agree it's better than going to a party and getting in trouble for underage drinking...even though one house offered us a beer trick or treat

We used to get a lot of people and held a haunted house one year, that was fun.
Less and less kids each year.
At one point I would heavily decorate the front yard, kids really liked my cobweb tunnel lit by blacklights.
One little boy sticks to mind, he was afraid to ring the doorbell, you could hear him conversing with his dad who was on the sidewalk and was encouraging him from that distance. The boy finally rang it and I opened the door slowly, so as not to scare him (no decorations inside) I found he was about four-years-old.. I saw his tonsils first, followed by the earsplitting scream. His dad grinning. Then he realized I wasn't in costume and our inside home looked normal. Hehe He was so relieved and left chuckling.
These days nobody wants to walk up streets with hills.

In the neighborhood I practically grew up on, there was a house where a completely blind old lady lived with some family. When it came time to trick or treat, and we came to this house where the blind lady lived, you were required to walk into the house, into their somewhat dimly lit living room, where the blind lady was sitting in an arm chair with a bag of apples. She then reached out and put an apple into your own bag.

For some reason, this house scared me. I guess seeing a blind lady reach out and feel for your bag with her hands and place in apple inside was kind of intimidating to a 6 year old me. Of course, now that I'm older, and wiser, such a fear seems silly, but I'll always remember trick or treating at that house.

Out first house we had so many kids come by. But when we moved not so many and I think the reason is because we are on a busier street.

But my hubby likes all holidays. He gets out the fog machine Strobe lights he even dresses up. And every time he goes to the store he picked up a pumpkin.

For our neighbors I usually have something special like play dough plus they get candy. If it seems like we are not getting a lot of kids I will give handfuls of candy to who every comes to our door
