Not sure if this is the right place, but does anyone here have tinnitus?
Mine is driving me crazy - I've had it for ages and it was pretty quiet - then I caught a cold last year and it's much louder. I saw the ENT doctor yesterday said my ears are fine and my hearing is fine. What I really hate is if I'm on a train, in a car or if something big like a truck goes past, my ear feels weird, it's like I can't hear properly out of it and I'm going deaf in one ear. When I get off the train or the car stops etc, my ear is fine again, it stops me going out though. It's actually making me suicidal, I keep thinking may as well do it today, but then I think tomorrow it could be better - but it's not.

Hugs,
I so know how that feels. It is not a good feeling. I actually had to have a MRI and was told that I had menier's disease, which i don't have. Feeling like you are going deaf in one year is common with tinnitis. I felt that way all the time. Mine got worse as well when I was in bed for a month with pneumonia then a lung infection and then a couple months later got brochitis so my ears never had time to heal. I was even getting pain in the ear that I felt I was going deaf in. I too had the hearing tests and say the ENT and everything was normal. Have you tried ear plugs when traveling? I have heard that words some...but not sure. Please know that I know how this feels. It does get better, it takes time, but it does. Take care of yourself and if you need to talk or have questions feel free to PM me. Jen

I did have Ménière's and lost all my hearing in one ear but both of my eardrums have been broken too many times too. I kind of like my tinnitus, it's more a "rushing" white noise than a ringing and I can ignore/not hear it most of the time; I lay on my good ear at night and then my husband's snoring isn't so bad :-)

My tinnitus is fairly loud in both ears. It seems to get louder when there's no other noise, occasionally to point of being nearly deafening. Sometimes I'll suddenly go deaf in one ear and hear a very loud metallic ringing for a moment before my ear seems to pop and go back to normal. My tinnitus is the type that is indicative of nerve damage (the ringing). A rushing noise is generally caused by the blood flow in your ears.

WOW - this is exactly what has been happening to me the last six months or so.... I keep getting a whooshing or white noise kind of sound when I lay my head down on a pillow and it drives me crazy when I am trying to sleep.
Thanks for giving me a word to go with my symptom - I will ask my doctor about it when I go in for my next follow up. |

Thanks for the replies.
Mine used to be quiet and I had got so used to it, but after the cold everything is worse. The ENT is sending me to see a nurse or someone that knows a lot about it. I usually get like a hissing noise and sometimes like a whistle sound that just lasts a few seconds or minutes at the most. I haven't tried ear plugs though and thanks for the offer of sending a PM Jen ![]()

I know sometimes some meds can help - like xanax, but they are meant to be working on some type of medication especially for it.
It totally sucks though right ![]() When I had my hearing test - having the headphones on made my tinnitus louder - was like the sound couldn't get out, suprised I could hear the sounds lol. I like the sound from the fan of my pc and laptop - helps a little bit.

My tinnitis is a ringing sound too. A constant high pitch. It isn't masked with hearing aids but I don't always hear it if I'm involved in something where there are normal sounds around me. It is worse at night when I go to bed. It seems so loud at that time. I wish I could have a radio on to help, but that doesn't work for me.

My tinnitus is only on my right side and is the rushing of blood in nearby veins. It can get quite loud. I don't know why I developed it all of a sudden. I've had it about 6 years now and it has not improved. It makes it very difficult to hear out of that ear, as the sounds I am trying to hear have to be loud enough to be heard over the tinnitus noise. I try to have people be on my left side when I talk with them, so I can hear their voice in my good ear. It can keep me up at night if I'm not tired enough, so I try to be exhausted when I go to sleep. I hope you feel better soon Kureha. Although the tinnitus has not improved for me, my ability to deal with it has. It's just a part of my life now, and at least it's not something painful.

I suffer from it, mainly in my right ear. It is a ringing sound.
I usually don't hear it, but it will flare up once or twice a day and last for about a minute. It's more irritating than anything else. The irony is that I think I'm 50% or so deaf in my right ear anyway. When I lie on my pillow at night, on my side, with the right ear up, I do not hear the traffic on the road. But when I have my left ear facing up, I can hear the traffic. That sounds quite hectic and sometimes stresses me out |
