I've been on very strong meds which bung me up, psych meds and others. I'm very sore now around the butt area and I think its probably piles. I thought that was something elderly people got. I'm not ageist but I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself and very embarrassed. I saw a doctor about this and he fobbed me off.

Medications can surely bind you and cause this to happen. The good news is that if you catch it soon enough and adjust either your meds, your food and water intake or all of it, you will counter this.

Since you're already adjusting meds, maybe find some good food of fiber, and increase your intake of water?

try weetabix with some nuts and dried fruit or branflkes with nuts and dried fruit they do a good range in both tescos and asda, if you try a good fiber breakfast and plenty of fluids and be carefull of things like bananas and eggs and such that bind you

also when your sore try putting a bit of i no this will sound stramge but nappy cream as this will help with the soreness when going to the loo after this settles down hopefully the soreness will go away again,
you can get piles from straining to go to the toilet

how about trying a laxative for the short term until it feels a bit less painful. While your piles are big and sore, it will really hurt if you are constipated and strain. And it will be even worse if you try to avoid going because it hurts too much. While you don't want to take laxatives long term, maybe it would help atm.
It isn't just the oldies that get piles, the most common cause is having babies, that's why most older women have them but guys and young people get them.

Yes, people of any age can get them. And they are painful!

How terrible for your doctor to fob you off! I hope you're not going back to him / her! A delicate bedside manner isn't too much to ask for!

I agree about increasing your intake of fibre and most definitely water.

Hope you have some pain relief very soon!

Hello all of the advice is good (((BEAR))). I have to take stool softeners as well from time to time maybe 2 times per week, because of hormones and medication and they help tremendously, to help you go and keep the hemorrhoids at bay as well. I dont think getting blew off was appropriate from your Dr either but sometimes you have to be assertive to get the help you need. Try not to overdo laxatives when taking Psych Meds. a stool softener or fiber therapy is much safer than laxatives. There are moistened pads and other creams that can help the burning and itching and inflammation you are feeling at this time, if you can not get in to see the Dr immediately. I am sure you are very uncomfortable at this time, and I hope you get some relief soon. There is nothing embarassing about needing help for your private areas, medical advice is always the right thing to get since you may even need an antibiotic if things are further along than you think to clear things up a bit. Take care. (((FUZZY))). Soidhonia

(((((fuzzy))))) i've had it happen, and i'm only 35. apparently, i had a stomach bug and my body "overcorrected," so i ended up that way. i had it very bad, and thought i had to go to the e.r. i knew it wouldn't be a pleasant experience and would rather take care of it myself. so, i did softener, mild laxative, and a suppository. i used the philips brand of softener and laxative, since they're not so strong to cause distress. i know, it's an overkill, but i was glad i did it. had to do it that way because fiber and exercise didn't do the trick. i kept taking the softener just until it worked right again. i've been fine since, and haven't had another episode. i was also on psych meds, too, which probably made me susceptible.

yes, eating oatmeal is really good for this problem. no need to be embarassed. i'm sure this post is helpful for any of us that needs help in this area.

Oh, you poor baby!!! I've been fighting the same thing the last couple of days. THE PAIN after is what gets me. I have enough pain to contend with already! Do you have Preparation H where you are? I gobbed that on yesterday and felt almost okay today but had to apply some more just in case. DAMN, THAT HURTS!!!! This is embarrassing :(

hehehe Not just old people get them. Was constipated as a child and my mom would give me warm sitz baths. Can't remember if it helped or not but she kept doing it so I guess it did. YUCK, though! I hate getting my tail wet 'cause it's not easy to not drip! This is embarrassing :( This is embarrassing :( This is embarrassing :(

Sorry to hear you are having this problem.
If they sell "Miralax" in the UK, see if it will help.
When my dad was on meds that constipated him, Miralax was only through prescription, now you can buy it like other OTC meds. Anyone who I know who has used it said it was good and results were the same as one's own natural function, not like a purge, just a normal movement.
The last time I had bouts with constipation, etc. was before the idiot docs realized my thyroid was NOT normal, like I had kept saying to them, once they saw that with my bloodwork they finally started me on thryoid meds and I only get an occasional problem, the last few times were painful and even caused bleeding, yes, it can be very embarassing I'm sure. Try to get lots of water and roughage (like salads) in your tummy, it may help.
I'm wishing you lots luck and comfort with this.
It can literally be a pain in the butt.
Take care,
Roe

Yes, I understand--- it IS embarrassing. But that's OK.

I've had problems with this since I was in my early thirties-- due to two VERY difficult pregnancies/deliveries and thyroid disease(low thyroid) and I also never used to eat right-- have always been below normal weight.

Last year was so bad I couldn't get out of bed-- went to the doctor and was told I needed surgery! This is embarrassing :( "Oh NO!! I don't think so"-- I told them. This is embarrassing :( I'll figure it out myself thank you very much. This is embarrassing :(

So, I've been trying to be more careful about not lifting heavy things, and adding fiber daily to my juice and eating fruit..... it's that darn chocolate though!--- This is embarrassing :( just can't stay away from it! This is embarrassing :(
Have YOU been eating chocolate too?? This is embarrassing :(

Well, I hope you are feeling better - I think all the suggestions are good-- one that I didn't see is-- a cream called-- Nupercainal (sp?)...... it has "dibucaine" as the active ingredient-- which numbs the area very well-- it's the only thing I've found that works for the type I have.

(((((((((( Fuzzy and all who suffer )))))))))))

My neice has Ulcerative Colitis, also, but instead of the kind I have, she has the kind where she can't use the bathroom. Believe it or not, if you will go to Taco Belle, (I hope you have them there, Fuzzy.), and buy and eat a bean burrito or two, the problem will be solved. I know it sounds stupid, but it works.

Also, since I have so much bleeding and other problems, my specialist gave me a prescription for Lidocaine Hydrochloride Jelly. Just put some on a tissue and apply it and it numbs the pain instantly. Ask your Dr. if you can have some. Also, if you have bleeding, my Dr. told me to fold several sheets of tissue together and use it to put steady pressure on the bleeding part. It will make the blood clot so it will quit bleeding. This is embarrassing :(

You know I adore all of you, because I would normally not put this stuff down in writing! This is embarrassing :( This is embarrassing :(

Hugs,

Jan

I meant to write this in PM but forgot so I'll write it publicly.

You say you're going to make a dr appt this week. Just think - when you go to the dr - WHEN you go - you'll know for sure, good news or not. if it's good news - you'll have wasted three years worrying over something that could have been easily cured. if it's bad news - at least you'll KNOW rather than wondering for the NEXT few years if you're about to drop dead. You will be able to handle it even if it is bad news, Fuzzy. And of course there is always the support here, whatever the problem is.

Fuzzy you've got to remind yourself that they've seen people's behinds umpteen times and ought to be viewing such an area dispassionately. You can ask for a chaperone if you want. I did when the dr offered it, but it wasn't much use because a nurse came in and stood OUTSIDE the curtain lol. Maybe they'll have more sense where you live lolol.

Dear ((((( Fuzzy ))))) I know medical problems can sometimes embarrass us but it is nothing to be ashamed of, everyone has different medical problems and I for one would never laugh. This is embarrassing :(

If you see a doctor I am sure they will be professional & handle the problem well.

Stool softeners are okay, but a laxative might help better.
