I haven't slept in 3 nights due to the fact that it remains 96 degrees in my bedroom and there is no wind at all coming in the window. No, I don't have air conditioning, too expensive. I despise summer heat...oh, and sumnmer bugs.
Just needed to whine a bit. No replies necessary.
Thanks

Perhaps you could buy a desk fan or one of those tall floor-standing fans... that might help a little....

I hope you manage to get some sleep somehow!

I wish I had little icons for folded fans, animated, to send you good wishes for cooling breezes.

I bet even taking cool showers doesn't help for more than a minute once you get out.

We have coolish wet weather up here, maybe I can find a way to blooooooooow some down your direction.

Ugh...I am with you on this Tina. I cannot sleep if I am sweaty. One thing that helped me when we lived in Blacksburg (with no a/c) was a cool wash cloth (and sometimes an icepack) on the back of my neck. There is some vein or something or other that if you keep something cool there it does make you feel cooler.

Hubby and I finally broke down and bought a window a/c. Best investment ever! They are getting cheaper now (the smaller ones)...maybe its something you can look into? Saving $100 could be worth the relief.

Hoping you get some cooler relief,

E

Thanks Sarah, Silver and Erin, for the comiseration.
Erin, it's not that the unit itself is expensive, it's the hydro it eats. My electricity bills are already huge because of the fans we have set up all over the house. I just can't add any more usage or I'll go broke on hydro alone! As Fuzzy would say "GGrrrrrr." Man oh man, I HATE this
Thanks again for the replies all.
It's raining today so maybe it will cool off a little. Fingers crossed.
Tina

I drink tons of cold water on hot days and it helps. Then I take a cold bath or shower before bed. It really feels good. Today I went swimming on the way home. That was nice.

Tina,

I can really relate to your heat problem & hating the summer. I live in the Mojave desert in California where we never have a day during the summer that is below 110 in the shade. I usually end up dehydrated & passing out. I usually go to the ER for rehydration so many times that they get to know me. I drink so much water that I slosh when I walk, but it never is enough to put back in what I loose. My GP has threatened to put me into the hospital for 3 days to rehydrate instead of using the ER this year because my weight is so low. That is great incentive not to let myself get into that condition but when I work with my horses, it is almost impossible to avoid. I try the cool showers before bed, icepacks on my neck, & even broke down to keep the central A/C on 24/7, but it just doesn't help me recover from the dehydration. I end up sweating off at least 2 lbs every night & can lose 5 lbs during the day. I REALLY HATE THE SUMMER!!!!!!! & it is just beginning.

Hoping you can find some relief that doesn't cost an arm & leg like A/C,
Debbie

I have NO heat tolerance, and the only suggestion I can make is to take a HOT shower (not a cool one) the cool ones feel good as while you're in them, but as soon as you're out you start to feel the heat again. Taking as hot a shower as you can stand will heat your skin past the temp of the room and when you get out and for a good while afterward you will feel cool. This is why I am happy to live in MN and NH and MA and will NEVER live farther south than Connecticut or Iowa I can take the cold, you can put on a sweater or jacket, but you can't take off your skin in the summer.... Man oh man, I HATE this

thanks for the sympathies all. We had a beautifully cool night last night and I slept like a log!! Feelin better today. It's going to be horribly hot again this afternoon but at least the house has cooled off a bit.
Here's hoping you all get relief soon too!
Take care, and thanks for all the good ideas!!! I'll keep them in mind over the next few days. Another heat wave is coming...sigh.

Move to the Pacific Northwest. If I hadn't lived on the east coast, then I would have no idea what you're talking about. The weather is stellar here!
