Last week, I signed up for a gym membership. But then I have been feeling icky about the fact that almost a week has gone by and I haven't been even one time! So tonight, I was exhausted (had a 6:30am teleconference! uuuugghhh), but I decided that tonight is the night - no more excuses! And I went! And did a very hard but fun Spinning class! And now I feel much better, especially because I know that now that I've gone once, it'll be easier to motivate myself to go again soon.
So my question to y'all is... what have you done or what will you soon do that is good for you? Something that requires some effort (eating broccoli doesn't count if you already eat broccoli all the time). Anyone? Anyone? Your annoyingly perky friend, LMo We are ALL going to be a-ok!

You are defintely not annoying...perky yes.. annoying no. And it is excellent that you keep us focused on the positives. I am thinking about a gym membership myself. I have a lot of free time on my hands and a gym membership may be just what I need. A much better way to get those endorphines going than what I am used to!!!!

Good for you, (((((LMo))))) = that's AWESOME!! I struggle with the preparation involved of going to the gym, (anxiety etc.), but I always feel much better once I've been, and it's helping immeasurably with my mood, and, of course, the agoraphobia, plus it helps me feel more opptimistic about the future. Keep it up = it will help! XOXO!! Peanut

Good for you, LMo!
I'm supposed to exercise. When it was summer sometimes I went for a walk and I really liked that - sometimes I walked for an hour or more. But now it's getting cold and dark earlier and I don't have as much time and that's fizzling out. Does anyone have any suggestions what to replace it with? My T says I should exercise in the morning, but I don't have any time in the morning. He says, "Couldn't you find just 10 minutes in the morning?" I couldn't think of any reason why I can't come up with 10 minutes, but I don't know what I could do in 10 minutes and that doesn't sound like enough anyway. I won't join a gym. We have one here and I hate them. We had a membership before and they robbed us blind. I'm a student/SAHM, losing money trying to keep a small farm going, and my husband is a public servant and we haven't even managed to make a dent in our student loans from before, so we don't have money to spend on this. I really could use some ideas. Sorry to have a rotten attitude, but I just have a rotten attitude today. I eat broccoli though! ![]() The main thing that I have done/am doing that is good for me is going back to school. Even though they are throwing obstacles at me right now that I don't know if I can make it past, it was something I needed to do. Perky friends are nice to have, and it's only annoying when I'm on a level where it doesn't seem like I could ever approach perkiness and the difference reminds of my own hopelessness. Go ahead and be perky - maybe some of it will rub off. ![]() <font color=purple>"The real problem of mental life is not why some people become insane, but rather why most avoid insanity." -Erich Fromm</font color=purple>

Yes, school definitely counts! I can only dream that my boyfriend would go back to school and pick up some additional skills. Sigh...
Rapunzel - I hear ya about the gym. I hate it, too. That's why I have put it off! During the spring/summer when the days are long, I usually ride my bike for a few hours, and this summer I made myself go jogging for an hour sometimes - there is a park about a mile away with a dirt running trail. But now that it's dark out, those options are gone, so hence the (ugh) gym. But 10 minutes.... hmmmm... let's think. That's tough - 10 minutes is not enough time to really get started in anything. Hey! I have an idea! How about yoga? I have an extra yoga video that I don't use ... I can mail it to you, if you like. Or record 10 minutes of rock-out songs (I have plenty of suggestions for those!!!) and dance in your living room? We are ALL going to be a-ok!

OR!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVEN BETTER!!!!!!!!!!
Don't feed one of your sheep for two or three days. Then... put on some old pants, and sit in some glue, then sit in some sheep food. THEN.... let the starving sheep out and have it chase you around your farm for 10 minutes! Good exercise for the sheep, good exercise for you, and it cuts down on the daily feeding you have to do and gives you more free time! We are ALL going to be a-ok!

Depends... how many sheep do you have? You could put them on a rotating non-feeding schedule! ;-)

Heather,
The majority are black. My eleven-year-old daughter says I can't try it though. She doesn't like the sheep to get hungry and also is concerned about them eating glue. ![]() One thing I am trying to do is make sure to get outside and feed the sheep in the morning (rather than procrastinating until afternoon or later), although it takes less than 10 minutes and I'm not sure most of it counts as exercise. My kids do most of the chores but feeding the sheep is one of mine. I'm back - sheep are fed. How long was that?
I am interested in the yoga video if you really aren't using it, but I'm just concerned that I won't either. I had a Pilates video and a Tai Chi video out from the library for 4 weeks and did half of the Pilates once. That was it. I just need to do it, I know. That's the thing! I don't use it either! Ha ha!
Actually, I do enjoy going to yoga classes, but dont' have much discipline to do it on my own. My boyfriend and I bought a "couples yoga" video, but we couldnt' stop giggling enough to take it seriously. When he's feeling good, he normally does about 10 or 15 minutes of yoga every night before he goes to sleep. PM me your address if you want me to send it! LMo We are ALL going to be a-ok!

When I did the Pilates, my kids came in and stared at me like I had completely lost it. I told them they could do it too, but they just sat there and stared and said, "Mom is weird." It takes a lot for them to admit to that.
Thanks for offering me the video. ![]() <font color=purple>"The real problem of mental life is not why some people become insane, but rather why most avoid insanity." -Erich Fromm</font color=purple>

I bought a couple of Yoga videos and a Yoga & pilates video. I use them regularly, and also have learned enough that I do yoga on my own without the videos too. It's really caught on - any time I stretch it winds up turning into a yoga stretch, and I do the breathing any time even driving down the road. I recommend it!

So many health conscious people....
Well right now I'm physically ill(in addition to the other tehe) so haven't been doing much of anything... Otherwise, I try to do yoga and pilates. Boy is that hard! Yoga is great, the breathing and the stretching...Improves both body and mind. Ofcourse I have the DVD's and I do them in the privacy of my own home. I feel so ackward doing it still. Clumsy me...maybe one day I'll join a class. Take Care all. Kimberly |

Good for you! It is a great feeling, I know.
I emailed my ex today to ask something that I really didn't want to have to do. I finally stopped making excuses, too, and did it. I am still waiting for a reply. |
