you know... anything that we suggest for this forum is what we would consider to be ideal for a mental health site. I think the point is that we shouldn't expect THIS forum to change based on our suggestions. I believe that is what he meant.

Folks, you're welcome to refer back to and add to this thread for as long as you'd like. I've compiled all of these suggestions into a document that will help us guide building a new mental health portal and community for a company I'm now working with called Revolution Health. You'll hear more about them in time...

The suggestions that I can implement here, too, I will try and do so (some of which I have implemented already!).

I have one answer when people ask me what are the answers to questions like this, and that's that the members know better than I what they want and would like out of their community. *You* are the community (not the software it runs on).

Thanks!
DocJohn

PS - You'd be surprised at how much basic functionality exists in these forums that doesn't exist in many others, so if we start out with even something like this, it's a good bit better than a lot of other offerings.

Often I alert to something that was dug up from a while ago and no longer needs "an emergency" response.

I would agree with Kimmy on more emtions, I think there should be a limit on post per day by a mameber, Also my I sugged that there would be page for just emergency for the admin., or montors. This is a good site don't get me wrong ,When I frist join it was easy to get on like most site you have to do many things to just get on.
Thanks Doc John for making it easy to understand site. Features you'd like to see in an ideal mental health site Features you'd like to see in an ideal mental health site

I don't know if someone's suggested this... 7 pages is a lot to look through to make sure I'm not repeating a suggestion... Features you'd like to see in an ideal mental health site ...so I didn't... sorry if this is a repeat!

But I'd like to see a database on treatment centers/professionals where we could rate them and share our experiences with them. Sure, it'd need a disclaimer that those sharing may not always be the most objective when receiving the treatment, but it'd be especially helpful if multiple people rated them. We may be able to use such a thing to avoid the bad and go straight to the good - that'd be pretty helpful!

Good idea and I believe we're going to be trying to provide such a service in the new site. Maybe not at launch, but sometime within the first year....

DocJohn,

Is it possible to have a moderator around in the early mornings?

I am not from the USA and quite often come on here early.

I really appreciate the job that the moderators do, and it feels safer when they are around.

Being able to ignore a whole thread.

If we can put a thread on "favorites" could there also be an "ignore thread" option?

Doc I'd find away to block members who have been banned from viewing the site. I know in my ACP's on my site (even though it is likely different from your ACP) but do you have permission masks for different user groups such as admin, moderator, members, guests etc?

I know for me for banned I set it as the banned members can't see any of the fourms or posts on the site.

Hey, that's a good idea. One site I was active on had an option where you could set it so non-members couldn't read your profile or see your pictures. You couldn't keep your posts from being viewed though.

I moderated at another forum where one of a members friends joined and read things she had posted at the site. What we did was create private forums along with the regular ones. You had to be a regular poster before you could join the private forums, and had to maintain a regular amount of posts at the private forum, otherwise your access was denied...You also could not see members profiles unless you were a regular posting member..

This is irrelevant with this posts, but I mentioned earlier in another post about a PC union. I don't know, personally I think it's a neat idea. I would love to meet everyone here in PC face to face, I think if anything that would unite us in ways you just can't possibly do virtually.

We could meet somewhere in the middle, and have like a party get together and wear our name tags with our user names. We could even have a little fundraiser and try to gain some money to maybe put back into PC or to another needy organization.

I don't know, just a thought, a wishful thought that's all...I just wanted to say it.

Thanks

I think it's important that people on sites have privacy, especially when it comes to people that are banned for causing trouble, threatening members, etc... I have that with guests too where they can't view my sites without registering, too many lurkers, and it makes members uncomfortable.

Just my opinon.

<font color="darkblue"> Hmmm. Maybe an option for moderators to enact if not everyone, where someone who is on another's ignore list, is also blocked from responding on their threads?

Wouldn't it be great if we could make ALL the forums hidden except for Social, General and Kudos!?!?! New members would NOT be allowed to see them until they had been here six months! That way, my DIL would still be looking for my threads!! Features you'd like to see in an ideal mental health site

Well, maybe leave the non-sensitive ones open to public? (Announcements, General, Social, Health support, Healthy eating &amp; recipes, Technical, Drug )
