There are always multiple applications for a dog. If one person doesn't work out, the next person they think is a good fit gets the animal.

The point is that I was discriminated against for whatever reason, and they were tipped off from an insider here.

This isn't about losing the dog. It's about my privacy being violated.

I am so sorry this happened to you. And you are right, it's not about the dog, it's about the violation of trust.

I am sorry for your family though. Our dog is sick and looks like she's not going to make it. Losing your dog is bad enough, but the trust issue . . . . . I am sorry that it happened to you or anyone here. Because it has affected a lot of people here.

I suppose it's possible, but back to the point of this thread:

What is written here at PC is to remain confidential. It was a major violation of privacy and trust to direct outsiders to a member's posts here.

Interesting Freudian slip, "Twisted" -- you said "mean" twice. I assume you meant "main." And you sound awfully defensive.

Susan Jane, you can stop the inquisition, and you know why.
Stop being so defensive.

My thoughts are with you and your family. I know how important a dog is to a family. (((((((((((wi_fighter and family))))))))))))) I hope you find another dog soon. I know there is a dog out there who is looking for a family such as yours.

I really don't know any of the circumstances behind this incident except for what I have read in this thread but I certainly can see the implications from thier actions. It is unbelievable that someone from this site betrayed the trust and ethics that are observed by everyone here. This person has not only devastated a family but effected an entire site.

I hope that this person is discovered and the proper steps taken to help mend the damage that has been done.

If our stories we wrote for Doc John are published will he do enough to protect our identities?

<font color="blue">I've read and reread this thread. I've been speechless. I've delayed responding until now, because I wanted to post something meaningful... really meaningful. I hope I achieved that.

While IMO there have been members here that are capable of such a thing, perhaps this is a good reason to reconsider whether just anyone can read the forums, without having to join? If not all the forums, then some of them? DocJohn, to me it's important to continue to hear from you about this event. I greatly appreciate your beginning the thread.

WI I know you really did do your homework on getting a dog... I know it was a real consideration for you, and remember the thread where we at PC posted and bandied about all the different aspects of it. I felt you came out with a good solution. IDK but if there were members here willing to write a reference for you to give to the doggie people, would that help? Or are you totally forgetting them? If only their feelings were hurt, they might reconsider after a good -ahem- boot shining. To be able to mend some of that would certainly help you in this. IMO it's worth a bit of effort, if and when you can.

But the trust issue has been reevaluated here, by all of us who have experienced this and consider trust important. BTW Right at the time this was happening, it turns out, I was considering sharing more about myself. I felt bad vibes and decided against it. I am so glad I made the decision I did. That is sad, though.

We expect this from other sites. Perhaps we all lowered our shields a bit here, expecting everyone to adhere to the gentleman's agreement; not everyone is a gentleman. On privacy and membership here Such an act tends to cause all sorts of imaginations to be created in the mind. The ideas swing from the query if something can be done to the person by the ISP for breach of internet agreement, to the feeling of being personally victimized, by proxy if nothing else.

IMO the truth bears out what we have generally forgotten. The internet exists in the real virtual world. In that world are those *****mongers who go about feeding upon the weaker of the species. We have survived them before, IRL and here. We may have taken a few steps back, needing to calm ourselves and perform self-care cpr, and will move forward more cautiously. PC will band together, this will make us stronger because it has made us wiser. Our friendships here will now be developed more fully. We will put forth more effort into learning about each other, and we will we will survive this, too.

I posted this in another thread, but I'll share it here too, since this is where it really belongs.

The perpetrator has come forth. They confessed to DocJohn and me. They have asked that their account be deleted. This attack was aimed at me, and I think everyone is safe from anything similar, IF DocJohn decides to make the site unavailable for reading until you register and log in. Until then, I suppose it's possible that the same could happen to any of us by any member.

The vengeful act was initiated by a member, but carried out by a non-member so there would be no email address to trace back to anyone in here.

I promised I wouldn't name names, and I'm going to uphold that promise. They deserve that consideration even if I wasn't given any. It's not my place to dole out punishment. If DocJohn wishes to go public with the name, if he feels the site will benefit, I leave it up to his decision.

I'm so glad to hear that.

I want to commended you for the way you handled yourself through this ordeal.

I respect your composure. It was remarkable given the circumstances.

wi, once again, I must tell you, my heart is truly bleeding for you, I am a dog mom, also went throught the trials of purchase or adoption so I can relate of the heartbreak, but I am sending out good vibes, for healing and towards the journey for adoption, my heart tells me it will happen, when it does it will be the best day, in a long time.
Bless you, and remember never give up faith, not all people are creeps, low lifes, degenerates, etc. like the ones that have broken a dream . . . a heart. On privacy and membership here
Just keep the faith, and know there are still good people, and they wish you the best.
Love and good wishes,

Woww, by the time I get here, the puzzle has been solved..... but the stink in the air lingers. What a nasty dirty deed was done..... I can only hope that an even more perfect pup will find it's way to your family's hearts. I am shaken by this whole episode. Trust. Yuk.

I am happy that the person came forward. While the damage can not be redone maybe this will give some a peace of mind.

I hope you continue to search for your perfect dog. Let us know if we can do anything to help.

I'll clarify what's happened and what we know later today...

As for privacy on the forums, I'll be posting a separate thread tonight about what we can do about it. Requiring a login is certainly one option, but it's not a cure-all -- people can simply sign up for an account to read the forums. But it's likely the only reasonable option we can place on the community....

More later...

I am behind on everything with so little time to come here lately. What I will say is I have been victim twice of a non-member using my postings here against me in real life. It doesn't matter who does it, member or not, we have some rights to privacy. Granted the internet is not about privacy--but the PC forums is as a private online community for mental health related self-help and therapeutic support. Perhaps the forums needs more than a disclaimer but also an internet version of HIPPA? Just my initial thought first reading about this. More thinking needed.

I look forward to reading something being done about that agency discriminating against persons with disabilities (mental health).

I just sent off an email to our local newspaper about this situation. Candybear informed me that May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so this is a very timely story - discrimination due to mental illness.

I did not give out the name of the site.
