I have heard of this....not by name but by the symptoms many years ago when I was dealing with treatment issues for anorexia.......
It was something that I could now relate to because when we look at the contents of the food we buy & refuse to purchase anything with "high fructose", MSG, anything related to GMO......& then I read this article on face book how the US is passing meat through inspection that has cancerous tumors after cutting out the tumor....like the cancer hadn't spread through the body/blood & they definitely aren't processing the meat in a kosher manor....... ![]() There are many times I go into the grocery store & just want to throw up or run out instead of buying anything......I can seriously understand this as unless you close off your mind to these things happening & understanding that our food is poisening us.......one would definitely STOP EATING......as it's very difficult to find what is good quality food to eat. Always loved to exercise....it made me feel healthy.....even though I was mostly doing it in place of eating lunch....racquettball with the guys was so much more challeging (expecially when I beat them).....always have enjoyed being competitive with guys....but also always felt much healthier.......I can definitely understand this thinking & mentality. In some ways anyone who is seriously conscious about eating healthy food might fall a small bit under this umbrella..... Just some of my thoughts on this since these food issues regarding GMO & meat inspection has been top on my list of reading lately & a concern of my other friends who have never had an ED of any kind.

So would that mean vegans/vegetarians have an eating disorder? Or is it only when they exercise heavily on top of that. Meat and dairy are gross and I refuse to eat them. Plus, I get a lot more calcium and protein avoiding meat and dairy than I ever did eating meat and dairy.
Are they cutting fruits and vegetables too? Otherwise, I find it difficult to see how they're not getting enough nutrients (unless they're lacking protein while body-building…but that would happen with any diet. That's why there are protein shakes). |

I have little money, therefore meat is'nt much of an option It is black beans with brown rice which we get from the food charity pantry, plus some fresh onions and squash, canned vegatables, and even some bread if it's a good day

I think I know a few that has this, one is a recovered anorexic. What might make them different from other sufferers is that they make food their mission and everyone that doesn't eat exactly like them "wants to be ill" and if I'm not well it's blamed on food at once and on my "gross" eating habits.
I have to say, it does affect me and I have become to believe my eating habits are completely horrifying. I try to eat well for the little money I have and I don't get a lot of processed food at all and a lot of veg. But that is not the way, I'm bombarded with. I'm told about all the unhealthy things I need to cut out of my diet, like all gluten food, all dairy, all beans and lentils, all nightshade, all non free roaming meat, most starches, some fruit and of course all processed and non organic stuff. I do feel bad now for eating those horrible starchy veggies and having milk. Maybe I deserve to be ill? Maybe it is true every illness WOULD go away if I was stricter? Also I eat too much. They eat one eco egg and that is dinner. Their eating seems healthy to me so it's so close assuming it's actually me and not them. But then I see the aggression they show when questioned the slightest, they go completely mad at me, then I realize maybe their ways are not the best? I really have no idea..... I'm so torn here.

I have heard of it. For me, when I was sick, that's how my eating disorder started. First I cut out red meat, then I started to exercise more and eat "clean" foods. Then I started restricting more and more. And then it became a real problem. It's hard for me to balance now between eating healthy and am I getting sick again. It's a bit triggering sometimes.
As far as I know it's not technically classified as an eating disorder in terms of the DSM or ICD codes, but it can lead to trouble if someone starts with maladaptive behaviors such as restricting, purging, or over-excerising. |

3 years ago when I turned paleo and started CrossFit I was told I was Orthorexic. If they only knew I was actually Bulimic.

Looking for safety, protection, being cherished and loved can often be normal unmet needs in childhood, and the survivor searches for these in other adults. This can be where survivors search for mother and father figures. Transference issues in counseling can occur and this is normal for childhood abuse survivors. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well, I'm very glad I started this thread!! Lots of comments and mostly constructive and informative!! Thankyou!! I myself have atypical anorexia, EDNOS and Orthorexia. I guess they are disorders of wealthy countries, but I have no hard and fast evidence. I was just interested what others would say or what they thought in general. I send you HUGZZ. ![]() |

Just a thought...after hearing & reading some things lately...wonder what our mentality might be towards the ED's we deal with when survival becomes the state we live in (thinking financial collapse). Thinking it just might be so focused on survival that WHAT we eat/don't eat becomes irrelevant.....
Waggie, your comment about it being the wealthy countries illness makes a lot of sense. People in countries that are starving are thankful for any food they can get while we choose to starve ourselves or pick out only certain foods we are WILLING to eat Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I577 using Tapatalk 2
