MKAC - I can understand you being worried, but I'd imagine that it will turn out fine. If it helps, my recipe for sweet potato crunch calls for 1-2/3 c. sugar for each 3 c. sweet potatoes. And it is sickeningly sweet...and people love it....I cut the amount of sugar in half....people still love it....because the topping is even MORE sugar...LOL

The friend who usually makes the pies and puts canned whipped cream cool whip stuff out of the aerosol can on them, was dealing with a family emergency this year so I got a pumpkin pie (I am not a pie maker) and some heavy cream to make whipped cream because I refuse to feed people the stuff from cans. She is coming over for a respite and will laugh at me because I don't even like real whipped cream so why it matters to me so much is something they tease me about.
Thanks for this!

I whip a bit of heavy cream with a tad of maple syrup for my pumpkin pie every year. And then I do some with powdered sugar and toasted coconut for my coconut custard pie.

I am unduly stressed about my sweet potato casserole. I have never made it, nor do I like sugar on my sweet potatoes. And the recipe that my mother in law gave me is more than 60 years old, so it's a bit hard to read and there were no numbers given for the sweet potatoes or apples and it didn't say whether it was a cup of brown sugar just loose or packed. I called my mother in law and she didn't know, so I packed it and it tastes disgustingly sweet to me. Intellectually, I understand it will not be that big of a deal either way, but my mother in law loved this casserole when her mother's cook made it (LOL), and she is looking forward to having it again.
Her mother's cook. Lulz.

A cup of brown sugar is a lot of sugar, packed or loose (and I think packed is a good assumption anyway). I think that's approaching the amount of sugar I put into 18 or so large chocolate chip cookies. It's definitely more sugar than I put into an 8x8 coffee cake. It's not you!

Besides, there's only so much you can do when someone says, "Here's a recipe... that's missing amounts... and is not totally legible... that I never made myself... but I remember it tasted good!"

Looks like I'm going to Thanksgiving dinner naked....*sigh*

I put the clothes in the wash....scrambled to get some things done - got an unexpected call which took a while...and then fell behind. Clothes won't be dry in time for when we need to leave....So, I'm going naked. The end.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING ALL!!

I'm not cooking this year. Yay! We're going to our friend's for dinner, and I don't even have to feel compelled to help there, because she doesn't cook at all - she buys the entire thanksgiving spread from the local grocery store already cooked! Since it's not as good as homemade, I don't eat more than I should, and since the cooking's already done there's nothing to help with beforehand, so the guilt scale is zero! And, it's not family, so there's none of the usual family drama either, which makes it even better in my book. Yes, Artemis is a thankful and happy camper!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!

Went to sleep about 4:30 am and slept until 2:00 pm. I've been busy since I woke up. I've seeded a pomegranate, cut sourdough bread into cubes for stuffing, and eaten lunch.

We're going to try again with Duncan tonight. I'm about to give him one of my Trazodone. Apparently it is very safe for dogs. I don't want this to happen again:

I don't want to be here... My bed seems more appealing then being around people!

Kids did amazing. So full, everything was delicious, I didn't even have to clean.
Laying in my chair watching Snow White and the Huntsman with H.

Hard to imagine such a pleasurable day in the midst of the storm we are in.

I had a peaceful day. No phonecalls. I used to have arguments with my mother over everything - the cranberry sauce, whoo we would visit, really just everything. Nice not to have that. Not to feel wrong for no reason.

Please be careful. Be mindful that your dog tried very hard to tell you that you'd pushed the situation to one that was impossible for him to cope with. The growling and snapping was a warning, and there were probably many subtle signals happening as well. It's clear that you have an agenda about what you need to do with your pup and that you really need to get it done (like grooming or vet visits which can't be put off sometimes I know), but I feel very concerned about pushing forwards in this way, for both you and your dog.

I'm not trying to be critical so I'm sorry if this comes across that way. I know it must be a difficult and worrying situation. It sounds like you need to slowly build up trust again and take it in little steps, by working on some desensitisation? Like the way our therapists work with us, slowly building trust and by pushing us yes, but not too hard, or we crumble too. At least, I know I do.
Thanks for this!

Yes, I'm going to start working on desensitization building up to (probably) his next vet visit. That's something we just cannot ignore and they require us to muzzle him. H and I got the muzzle on him before H left for work, but H was bitten also. His wound was not nearly as bad as mine. But we may consult with a behaviorist before the next time. H's BFF is coming over in awhile to help me brush and bathe him. He is calm currently wearing the muzzle.

Plus I hope you're gonna get that hand checked out. I got my first cat bite and now I'm an expert but that looks yucky.

MKAC-Way To Go for you MIL.

Hello everyone.

I am home now in peace and quiet. But I am not going to allow myself to be miserable this Holiday season. I plan to bury all the negative stuff and just let myself enjoy it as much as I can.
