I know. An abomination. Perhaps two smaller sweet potato dishes. One covered in marshmallows and one not? Or just let it go and laugh?

Chopin sorry to hear about bite.

Happy thanksgiving all.

If you like it, it is good.
I don't like sugar with sweet potatoes unless it is a dessert. I am a roasted with a little salt sort myself.
Thanks for this!

hmmm....why sweeten veggies? They are so sweet to begin with!!! lol. She said she would bake a plain one for me. (marshmallows aren't vegan) She wants to candy the carrots as well. She's so sweet to do this, it just makes me chuckle. She has printed recipes and is being very serious whole deal. Really making me laugh.

ETA: she can pour turkey stock and sugar over everything if she wants, it's her meal. And I am so thankful for her.

I gotta say, the sweet potato crunch that I make really does taste more like a dessert than a side dish.....and to me, it is sickeningly sweet...I cut the amount of sugar in the recipe in half, usually, and it still tastes too sweet to me. But everyone in my family LOVES it.

And that's what matters. Tradition can be so comforting. Enjoy it!

Hello everyone. Happy Thanksgiving.

Hold up. Wiki said we can eat what we want.

Hey, I started the day with oatmeal but it's all gonna go downhill from there.

Watching the parade. I know it's silly but "Little Jersey" still enjoys Santa's arrival.

It just dawned on me that this will be the first year (that I can remember, anyway) that I won't be seeing a turkey on the dinner table!

Since it's just my sister's family, my mom and us, my sister decided on a baked ziti (since I'm a vegetarian) and ham (since her family prefers that over turkey).....

I never ate the turkey...but it's gonna feel a bit weird not having that big dead bird on the table....Hey, at least I won't have to smell it! Oh wait, do people typically like that smell?

MUE-I'm not vegetarian but I don't eat the turkey either. I eat other turkey products but not the actual full turkey.
Thanks for this!

Happy Thanksgiving to the people in the US. No similar holiday here, Wiki, as far as I know (that is, as far as I understand what Thanksgiving is) - and I admit that I am just as happy about that. Declaring gratitude in public seems like something that would feel very awkward to me (though of course I recognise the importance of feeling grateful, and also of thanking people when appropriate for what they do for me), and as far as "mandatory family togetherness" holidays go, Christmas, Easter and Midsummer are enough for me! I do like the sound of the food, though

Things are a little less frantic at work today compared with yesterday, but it's still a very hectic working week. T this morning was very good - we talked about some rather intense things that sent me thinking, but we also shared jokes, and I managed to make T laugh out loud twice. I feel much much better about therapy now than I did a couple of days ago. And I'm very lucky to have found this particular T, I think.

I hope you'll all have an excellent day.

Happy thanksgiving everyone! I am thankful that I found some amazing new friends here!

I am unduly stressed about my sweet potato casserole. I have never made it, nor do I like sugar on my sweet potatoes. And the recipe that my mother in law gave me is more than 60 years old, so it's a bit hard to read and there were no numbers given for the sweet potatoes or apples and it didn't say whether it was a cup of brown sugar just loose or packed. I called my mother in law and she didn't know, so I packed it and it tastes disgustingly sweet to me. Intellectually, I understand it will not be that big of a deal either way, but my mother in law loved this casserole when her mother's cook made it (LOL), and she is looking forward to having it again.

I am sure it will be fine MKAC...people tend to like their food disgustingly sweet on turkey day. LOL at "her mother's cook"!

Apt, I think here in the US we have way too many obligatory holidays! I have learned to push away from my FOO and care more for my own family...who aren't too dysfunctional!

My MIL just confirmed for Christmas. So lots of Jesus channel in store for after my surgery.

I am so amazed that Macy's pulled this off with all of the problems from Sandy. Really shows the resilience of New Yorkers.

It is SO SO STRANGE to be sitting here in my sweats on Thanksgiving. My daughter asked me to do the stuffing, and I was excited to finally make something.
