You misunderstand me, Hankster. Bill James is the GOD of baseball trivia and sabremetrics, and I recognize this. I do not compare myself to him at all. I pointed out that there are people who know more than I do, Bill James is at the top of that list; but I have never come across anyone(face to face) that could best me, and I take some pride in that. I'm sure that Swami guy from ESPN could best me also.

Ditto, ike. Your achievement is da bomb! Is what I intended to say. T and I have been evaluating the Yankees adding yet another old blind guy to their roster, Mr Youklis. At this rate I should be a shoe-in for center field. Maybe put Hillary Clinton in at left. At least then we'd have an excuse for running into each other going after the ball.
Thanks for this!

Lola,
You really are struggling lately If you look to others for self worth and love it is not going to be a happy ending. I am not sure how to find it within as I am working unsuccessfully at this myself right now.
I learned the hard way not to do this by putting my happiness in someone elses hands and when they left I was left alone and unhappy and not knowing how to get myself out of this whole I got into but at least I have learned never to rely on others for happiness. My first t (blank slate) told me that I wait for others to rescue me from my unhappiness instead of finding it within but I still don't know how to find it within. Maybe some people are never meant to be happy- who knows.

My sense of self worth, such as it is, comes from knowing stuff. Being competent. Being able to relay information to others. When I don't have that, I am nothing.

I find that no matter how much love I receive from people my age (friends, partner etc) I still don't feel happy with myself. On the other hand, although I realize and fully understand intellectually the reasons behind this need, I seek for the approval and love of older men and women (especially men). I don't fall in love with older men, but I fantasize of being their special one, their protegee, of them admiring me, holding a special and secret place in their heart for me, encouraging me, holding me etc... And that hasn't changed.

Hankster, Google pays homage to Jackie Robinson today. He's my hero.

I look at it through a developmental perspective. You described Lola how children learn that they are worthy, through their parent's actions. One thing that I did was to examine what really happened to me with all of this. You have to go to the root to fix things IMO. Really understanding how you got to where you are is important I think and working through the bad stuff and the bad messages and airing those feelings from all of this. Then you have to redo the child development. Anything that gives you these messages to build your self worth. Taking care of yourself is a good one. Being around others who care for you is another (and making space between yourself and those who give you the "you are not worth anything" messages).

I get this, especially the space from toxic people...but how on the bold part?

Who played shortstop for St. Paul when they won the American Association pennant in 1938?

Ring Lardener Jr. The wrong handed fellow is how he described southpaws.

My favorite baseball trivia question:

Who holds the record for most runs scored lifetime, without an official at bat?

Anything that gives you these good messages to build your self worth. Taking care of yourself is a good one. Being around others who care for you is another.

And figuring out how to stop your own negative self talk.

Reparenting yourself.

So you are giving them what you need? Getting your needs met vicariously. I remember doing this. It is what you do before you figure out why you can't meet your own needs.

Okay so it's somebody who got asterisked out for drugs so he no longer has any at bats?

Or is it Jackie Robinson? They didn't even let the black players room with the others or sleep at the same hotels. Yeah I watched Ken Burns!

No and No, Hankster. Hold on, I screwed up the question. Question should be without an official plate appearance. A walk counts as an at bat, but not a plate appearance. The only way to get on base without a plate appearance is as a pinch runner. Think Charley Finley and the Oakland A's of the 70's.
And I'm thoroughly disgusted at the juiced players and what they did to the all time records. I just hope in thirty or forty years the old timers committe doesn't let them in. Of course, the Hall of Fame is already compromised by the Frankie Frisch years of the old timers committee.

I got this question from a Peanuts cartoon. Snoopy asks Woodstock (who knows the answer).
Lola is correct.

Sorry for the hijack. And now we return to our regularly scheduled programs.

I am guilty of hijacking this thread also. And my answer was to Hankster. But since I didn't quote his original, i can see how you thought I was answering your question.

Herb Washington, track star from Michigan State, who was Charlie Finley's "designated pinch runner" in the 70's. Scored 33 runs and never came to the plate.
