I am not worried -i have my tin foil hat at the ready should I need to ward off their mind melding wiliness on me at the classes. I have enough tin foil to make a vest too should I need more protection.

I personally cannot attest to its chafiness. One of those dentists x-ray vests might be nice though. They're kinda like a weighted blanket but they leave your limbs free.

There is a larger selection than I realized

It just goes to show: cooler heads do not always prevail. American, watch out!

This might lead to closer ties between the UK (what's left of it) and New Zealand. So that's not a problem.

What bothers me is the triumph of xenophobia.

Me too. The politics of hate. And also people's vulnerability to propaganda. It puts us at the mercy of Murdoch and the like.
One of the main politicians of the leave campaign has already said this morning that suggesting the money we spend on the EU will be put into the health services was a "mistake". What else will be exposed as lies?

While the referendum isn't strictly binding, it almost certainly will be followed. Even more certain now Cameron has resigned. I wouldn't be surprised if Boris Johnson became the next prime minister (our very own Trump) and he is pro leave.

I live in the USA, but what's happening in the UK is very concerning to me, too. I knew this was a possibility, but didn't realize how strong nationalism was in the UK. I'm sorry for my European friends today.
Thanks for this!

If it wasn't for the fact that H was home, I'd be pretty drunk by now. Everything is falling apart, in my life, and in the world. I'm reading a book about how the moon disintegrates which will almost certainly lead to a rain of meterorites destroying all life on earth, and at this moment, that feels like utopia.

And it is eight weeks until I see somebody I can mention any of this to.

G'day. Haven't been here for a while! Protracted legal battle with the abusive ex. Watching Harry Potter and hanging out here for a bit.

Thank you. We were your European friends, and now we are not.

I have had to (mostly) stay away from social media, because among the deluge of sadness and despair there are one or two people gloating and that makes me so furious I feel as if I am at risk of harming myself. And nobody would really benefit from that, I guess. (I wouldn't do any serious harm to myself, I never do, but the feeling is just unpleasant.)

At least I made a pretty nice midsummer lunch for H and myself, and got lots of cred for it from H. (Oven baked salmon stuffed with feta, dill and lemon zest, with linguine and a salad of carrot and zucchini strips marinaded in lemon juice, olive oil, and chopped fresh basil. Looks rather fancy in print like this but was super easy to make.)
Thanks for this!

T is always talking about how I have the right to feel what I feel (which was a completely new notion to me when he first said it a few years ago), but what do I do when feelings are so overwhelming that I can no longer stuff them away?

Thank you! It's hard to go entirely wrong with salmon. Unless you cover it in strawberry jam, perhaps. That would be easy, but entirely wrong.

As a non-Midsummer celebrater, I am nonetheless Swedish and steeped in our country's weird traditions, so I offer
for your amusement. (It's mostly quite correct, though exaggerated for comic effect, of course.)

I am not a huge fan of salmon and pickled herring is right out -but the other parts of the holiday celebration seem quite fun.
