I live on the 60th latitude, which is a long way south of the midnight sun, but even though the sun does set it never goes far below the horizon which means it never gets very dark. The winter months are very dark indeed, though.

One of the many things I loved so much about my Grandma: every year on my birthday my parents had all the relatives over for a big barbecue. I hated it, I just wanted to be left alone and not have to act my part in the 'perfect family' drama we put on at said event, but I was forced to. And the worst part was the fireworks. My grandma would sit inside with me every single year, when I was still small enough I remember sitting in her lap in front of the window so she could watch them and still comfort me, and when I got too big I'd sit on a chair scooted up really close next to her with her arm around me, because I was always so afraid of the sudden loud noises. I loved her so much. She's been gone for a very very long time but every year around my birthday I remember her sitting with me during the fireworks and I get a little wistful, being in her arms made everything alright, I was so blessed to have her in my life for 15 years. Sigh.

Anyway, I'm not that little girl anymore, and I'm not so afraid of them these days. Although I do prefer to watch them from a distance.... we may do a few little fountains at home, but that's about it.

But I still miss my Grandma.

I like large fireworks and the way they smell. I am not especially keen on firecrackers and bottle rockets and other small sorts. Kids shoot them in the neighborhood and the cat is unhappy and the dogs try to eat them when they land in the yard and so on.
I knocked pup out with benedryl and put him in his crate which he likes. He relaxed a bit as soon as I closed the door on it.

I like the way they smell too. We went to an event to celebrate the 4th today and left before the actual presentation was displayed. There were so many people coming in at that time. We went to an off site place and watched them from a distance.

The short nights sound great but the winter sounds very sad to me. Sunshine makes me happy.

Fireworks have a smell?? Wouldn't that be similar to the smell of gunpowder?

I have no idea - I haven't done fireworks for years. Ever since I realized that, if I put the money that I got from my parents to buy the fireworks in my piggy bank, I could use it to buy a book. Approx 12 years ago.

Singing in the Kölner Dom was awesome. I feel very honoured to have ben allowed to sing there, it is so magnificent. It is always interesting to watch religious services from other traditions; we've participated in Catholic services before, but it is still exotic enough to fascinate me (and different places have different traditions, too). Not too fond of the incense, though, it makes me choke a little. And our robes now smell like pot, or at least my imagination of what pot smells like...

Morning, couch.

I am up and caught up on the couch. Looks like I missed all the train talk. Oh well, I wouldn't have been able to add much anyway as I don't know much about trains and am not very good at punning.

CVS on Friday went well filling in at the other store. It was slow compared to mine, but not boring. The other workers kept freaking out about small things and asking if I was okay, to which I replied...this is nothing compared to my store. The workers there got freaked when there were 2 incoming calls at the same time. Hah! My store gets 4 or 5 at the same time during peak hours. Lol. The pharm manager said when I was getting off, "well, Missy, you are welcome to work in my store whenever you want. Thank you for doing such a good job and being so nice to our customers. If you ever don't have many hours at your store and need extra give me a call." I said thanks and immediately asked about next week, since I only have 16 hours at my store. She said she might have 4 hours she will need someone and that she would text me later. Yay! Another store that likes me. I will call her next week about the week of the 10th, since I only have 15 hours at my store that week. Stupid corporate limiting our summer hours to be allocated. Not my pharm managers fault, he has to give the full time their hours first and then try to split the remaining hours evenly between all the part timers. Hopefully, I can pick up some other stores as well the next few weeks because I need more hours to survive the summer financially.

I feel bad for animals this weekend. Stupid fireworks. We filled 3 scripts for doggies in our store yesterday for Xanax. The directions said for the fireworks.

Well, I need to go get dressed for CVS and brush my hair so I don't have bed head. I'll be back on after work. Working tomorrow too (we are only open 4 hours, but I am working...time and a half). Later, couch.

Glad it went well. Catholic incense does not smell anything like pot in my experience of both.

I will look into it. The dog of mine who acted like the thundershirt was more like a hair shirt also failed tellington touch. Whenever the head tellington toucher started trying to massage her, she turned her head and looked at me like WTF is this stranger touching me for. The trainer said my dog got more tense when she was being therapeutically touched. Even when I would try it, she would not like it much - she did not get stiff like when it was the stranger, but she wasn't flopping and relaxed like some of the dogs in the class. I bought her a hamburger after the training class that day, and that was the first happy reaction I got out of her that day. We did not go back.
I loved that dog.

The book that I'm reading talks about "mirror neurons" in our brains. I was trying to calm myself so I could speak calmness to her. Again. Hope that makes sense.

She sat out with us on the back patio tonight, in the midst of the fireworks, I calmed myself and spoke reassurance to her. No shaking!! She say right beside me. They were 2 streets over, but still in our space.

Interesting.

Two feral kittens in my bathroom. One is pretty savage and has bitten me twice. The other is fairly low key and I can hold him already. Only two of the six seem to have survived.
