Isn't it like midnight where your mother is? So, a grace period until tonight, unless you go to bed early, in which case, tomorrow morning. Unless she's like a sleepless dragon.

Shaky yoga makes me feel hyperenergetic. But last night I took the baseball bat to the punching bag. Very satisfying.

Art -- I have absolutely no idea. This sounds nutso but it's only this past weekend that I could actually allow myself to feel any anger at my mother and not immediately become numb. This just when I was all alone

ATAT -- yep, you got the time difference right. No, the calls will begin with a delayed onset reaction (next week perhaps) if I don't succumb to garden variety guilt before then that is.

(Alright, I shall stop subjecting the Couch to my family saga right about here.)

(((Awk))) is she frail? At 70 my mother was still hip-bumping old guys off the city park walking trails if they got in her way, trading bags of "tomatoes" from their gardens.

I pulled over and sat in my car looking at the building and picturing him walking out of work and wanted so badly to talk to him and tell him all about my son. Even though he cheated on me and broke my heart, we actually parted friends and he knew I'd met my h, but we lost touch shortly after that and I never even got to tell him I was getting married let alone that I had a son. It's hard.

Sending more hugs, Echos. You will get through this, it just took me some time, I hope you can give yourself some time too and not be too hard on yourself.
Art, I didn't respond to this earlier because I was at uni and didn't have time to process. I want to thank you for sharing your experience and for the hugs. I've realised Ive just gotta grieve. Just let it hurt and go through it. Even though it was painful, standing in front of the block of flats we lived in together was helpful to me. I need to reclaim that part of my life rather than running from it as I always did before.

My mother is 71 and while she looks frail (one of those little women - I can't imagine her ever having been pregnant, let alone with twins), she is perfectly capable of, say, shoveling the house and driveway out from under 3+ feet of snow. On her own. Or sawing up the old iron water heater in the basement. On her own. Or balancing precariously on the edge of the chimney to clip tree branches. On her own. And dismissing any child who dares to try to help her.

The pretense of frailty is like babies being cute to get what they want.

Umm.....ATAT / Una -- I feel like I need to pay you guys therapy fees

Yeah, I guess frail is debatable. My mother has bad knees -- a bunch of people though who know her well (her sisters) as well as those who haven't met her (a couple of my ex-es) told me to chill out on catering to her condition because she can manage okay (her routine and travels bear out what they've said but I haven't wanted to look at it too closely).

I had a knockdown-dragout fight with my ex-es over it and got mad at my aunts...

I dunno -- perhaps it might be prudent to follow Odysseus and tie yourself to a mast before you venture forth?

I emailed T in the end and he said well done for listening to myself, trusting myself and letting that take me forward even though it hurt. He said it sounded like an important step and it was good to read. I feel really supported by him.

Jdna yes tim tams re Australian. Crocus can do the Tim Tam slam where you bite. Piece of diagonal corners and use it like straw. The trick is to do it fast so the biscuit doesn't melt just the cream.

I was complaining to my t about how the chairs in his room feel like they are engulfing me, I am really small these are huge recliners. He said to bring in a cushion and a blanket to see if that helps. I can see how the cushion might help in making me sit higher up in the chair, but I don't see how the blanket comes in.
