I know there are a couple other organizations I can lodge complaints with, but what I really want now is my money back ($400) from her overcharges and charges for consultations that didn't actually happen according to 2 and 3. So the Better Business Bureau it is.
Have you thought about trying the Attorney General Office of your state? The Healthcare Bureau, who is under Social Justice, will pursue healthcare overbilling issues or even mediate complaints about healthcare.

How the Health Care Bureau Can Help You
  • We can help you challenge health insurers that won’t cover your provider costs
  • We can help you navigate the complex health care system
  • We can target health care organizations that have fraudulent, misleading or deceptive practices
  • We provide outreach to educate New Yorkers about their health care rights
  • We advocate for laws, regulations and policies that enhance the rights of health care consumers

The Health Care Bureau safeguards the rights of health care consumers statewide through investigation of and enforcement actions against insurers, providers, drug companies and other individuals and entities that engage in fraudulent, misleading, deceptive, or illegal practices in the health care market.

The Bureau’s Health Care toll-free Helpline, 1-800-428-9071, provides information and assistance to thousands of New Yorkers annually, including resolution of individual consumer health-related complaints, making sure consumers and patients get access to the health care they are entitled to. The Health Care Bureau also educates New Yorkers about the rights and protections they have available to them under the Managed Care Bill of Rights and other health and consumer protection laws. In addition, the Bureau advocates for legislation and policy initiatives to enhance the rights of health care consumers and their ability to access quality, affordable care in New York State.

I've sought help from the Attorney General office for retail fraud issues, and they've been helpful in getting me money back. This Healthcare division offers a good deal of services; most unrelated to money, but they could take action if they find fraud. If they find patterns of repeated fraud, they could start a whole blown investigation. Of course, if she was just careless, I doubt they would go that far.

Here are a recent breakdown of the complaints they handled in 2015:

Quote:
  • Provider Billing 31%
  • Claims Processing 18%
  • Health Plan Denials 15%
  • Coverage 12%
  • Prescriptions 10%
  • Wrongful Practices 9%
  • Other 5%
Just passing this along, if it helps. You're a fighter. Does that help keep you energized and feeling empowered? Oh please ignore that if this is too much. Take care.
Thanks for this!

It's 3 a.m. and I can't sleep. Stupid cpap machine. Listened to 3 meditations for sleep but they didn't work! Hope it's not the Prednisone. Dr. gave me Rx for 5 pills, one a day, for carpal tunnel syndrome. I took first one yesterday morning.

Hm... maybe try not to take it to hard (great advice I know, lol). I'm joking about students in other subjects all the time. I mean, seriously, we're just the best kidding, obviously.

Whatever you're doing now isn't inferior to what your siblings do everyone has different strengths..

People think I'm depressed. I'm not depressed.
People think I'm weird. I think they are weird. But this world is weird too, so they can live happily in it.
I want to find my home. I want this illusion to dissappear

Wow, PhDs! I'd be intimidated haha. While I know academic results aren't the sole measurement of "intelligence", I feel really lousy about my poor grades throughout school, adult learning through night classes etc.

My immediate and large extended family is pretty dang "Prestige conscious" so every family gathering is all about being snobby about education, what job/career you do blah blah and very often it's equated to intelligence levels.

Hell even my relatives in the creative or software development industries do WELL (and therefore get respect despite the disdain for humanities) and I'm a failed graphic designer.

Hopefully I'm more... *ahem* self aware than their narrow focus on being snobby? *crawls under a box*

Hugs! I would be okay if they were just laughing around for fun, true It's not their fault, it's really me being sensitive because I DO have an inferiority complex regarding educational levels

Hugs... it kind of is if they're acting like idiots :-) basically no one is my family has a bachelor/master/doc degree. They're joking about us lazy students all the time. Meh

For what it's worth; I don't think you have anything to be ashamed of. You act like a very kind and self aware person

Hugs. I do know university and higher education is hard work. It isn't right that your family jokes about you being a "lazy student", you're definitely not lazy.

You're very kind and pretty dang self aware yourself! *hugs*

Prednisone acts like a stimulant. I can't take it because of the. side effects. Namely the anger

Morning couch.

I am up and sort of with-it. I don't remember going to bed last night, but evidently I did. So confusing. I need to take my morning meds and get dressed to leave for work. Work 10-2 today, hopefully it will not be wild and crazy like it was yesterday.

I also need to make discussion posts in my masters class today. And CLEAN. *sigh* Silly procrastinating Squirrel. *sigh*

T at noon then working 3 to 11

Finally get a day off tomorrow after working almost 40 hours in 5 days

I know that's a pretty typical work week but there was a time that I thought I could never ever ever do that!!! So I'm proud of myself. It feels good to see progress

I did enjoy thanks

Performance was a mixed bag, but it is always so amazing to play in the hall I was at, and the other person I was playing with had a beautiful musicality that you do not encounter frequently at all... every phrase he played was like an old man telling his favorite story. It was very touching. I couldn't help but smile.

On the other side of the fence here- when I still had contact with my family they taunted me mercilessly for getting a graduate degree. Waste of money/time, am I too scared to get a "real job," is it remedial for not doing well enough in college, f***ing weirdo, etc.

I guess if people want to put you down, they will find ways to put you down.

My mother always says that to me. "I think it's time for you to get a real job." Really? Because you know, taking care of strangers babies for 10 plus hours a day while they leave the home to go to work is not "real" enough? Plus I make okay money doing it. Anyway, I just usually tell her to mind her business.

I am reading a book about this. You and anais are great for having escaped it. It is:

Who You Were Meant to Be: A Guide to Finding or Recovering Your Life's Purpose

By gibson, i think. The first part is just about how like Rapunzel, your family tries to screw up your choices.

Omg that book sounds like everything M has told me, ever

It's so hard going over all this stuff. I'd internalized so much of what they told me... so it never felt specifically that there were things I was forbidden or prevented from doing, it was more like "I don't do things like this, I'm not cut out to succeed at things like that, I'm just not the kind of person who has good experiences like those."
