Had a pretty good session with T today. Of course I had some more thoughts afterward and e-mailed her. Shockingly, she responded with more of an MC-length e-mail, much more than her usual sentence or two and saying more than something like "Good insights, let's discuss next session." Then again, my e-mail was partly about the significance of words and time (as in people spending it with me) to me, so maybe she felt she had to up her game!

Don't think so. Mainly because I see I forgot to mention the leather rocker cuffs on her wrists.

Fortunately there were no fishnets.

I think you all might be happier if you followed the good example I set of just not paying much attention to them at all.
I never think about whether someone is wearing underwear or not unless they are standing stark naked in front of me.
How would you be able to tell otherwise?
OF course - I could not tell you what I was wearing yesterday so what anyone else has on is beyond my observational powers usually.
My person did have one oncologist who wore a lot of odd shoes -my person noticed first, made me look, and then it became a game with us.

I'm kind of with you, SD. I couldn't tell you 95% of the time what T is wearing. The only time I notice is when he's wearing my least favorite shirt. Because it's hideous, and green isn't a good color for him. But he has to like that shirt. He's worn it at least 3 Saturdays in the last 9 months.

L has worn fishnets a few times. She is 61. She looks really good in them. She has interesting outfits and color schemes that I always notice.

M also does the toe thing........ and when he makes a point that he really likes, he sort of punctuates it with his toe in the air, his legs are usually crossed.

That's how I noticed he doesn't cut his toenails quite often enough

I am picturing him in his chair with his hands in his lap, gesturing instead with his toe.

What sorts of points would a therapist make and why is the therapist barefooted?

Last night I dreamt that my T had an apartment and I had to hang out at the apartment before the session. (He owned a large toy store next door for some reason).
I tried to snuggle with him on the couch and he recoiled saying "what if I don't want to?" and so I went for a walk and didn't come back for my session.
To me that sounds more like a nightmare

The sessions are in his home office and it's a no-shoes house

M gets explain-y sometimes...

Or sometimes he is elaborating on some qigong principle or something like that

I guess you wouldn't know because you don't let them talk....

I let them try talking in the beginning. They never made any point I found pointful. I simply stopped the uselessness. And a lecture on qigong (which I actually do find useful as a practice - but not around a therapist)
from one of them would probably make me homicidal.
Actually any lecture on anything would.
That is also why they cannot speak.
When they speak - I know they are idiots.

y'know all this foot talk has got me thinking. t always used to be either barefooted or sock-footed during sessions this both way back in the first year in an office-office, and in her home office, up until a couple months ago when I first started noticing something different about her. I should go look for the couch where I mentioned it felt like she was behind a glass wall - like i could see her but not touch her - that was when the different-ness started that i think set the ball rolling on what eventually happened. Ever since then she's been wearing shoes, as I think back on each session. That has got to have something to do with all of this. I was still stepping out of my flip flops like I always did - but if I go back for a closure session which I'm pretty certain i will, I will keep my shoes on this time. Verrrrrrrrry interesting.

MY T used to go with the socks thing until one day there was a rug and my T was wearing shoes. I think he may have slipped over and hurt himselff as he used to sometimes slide to the door when he let me out.

My neighbour offered to mow my lawn, he said thats what neighbours do. I was a little afraid but I did accept as my lawn looks like a wheatfield. I must learn to be more trusting of others, but it is really hard.

I was sitting here typing out this long tirade about being barefoot, and then it occurred to me. Why does this bother me as much as it does? The choices I make don't have to be the choices that other people make.

That sounds like...a really adjusted way to view things outside of my locus of control. Does this mean that I'm actually growing?

I always take my shoes off as soon as I sit down, and put my feet on the couch, even if I have bare feet. I am not sure if I ever asked if that was okay, and it is silly to ask now because I've been doing it for years.

My tirade about being barefoot, inside-out to daisy's:
I, like M, also have a strictly no shoes home-- my last airbnb person would not take them off! I asked three times. He would say "sure, ok" and then not do it! Walk all over my just cleaned floors and white carpet with his nasty dog****ty city shoes. This is beyond rude imo. To me it would be equally disrespectful and filthy to pee on the floor. Unless there is some mobility-related/health issue.... is it so hard to please leave your shoes at the door????

It is my home and the choices I make about the way I keep it will extend to the people I invite in. I have the right to insist on my boundaries. Does this mean I'm actually growing?

Last guest is tonight! :dancing dancing:

re: daisydid & barefoot tirade that wasn't - Isn't it interesting making a self-observation like that in time to stop yourself mid-tirade? I'm a work in progress there for sure....maybe one day we'll be able to stop 'em before they even start lol

we're growing like weeds around here! er, like roses! or other pretty flower of your choice
