Pro tip: If your regular blender breaks in the middle of making a smoothie (for D), an immersion blender can finish the job. Thanks, wedding gift that we've used approximately 5 times in the 12 years we've been married! And the blender motor was smoking and everything, so pretty sure that's dead... H seemed POed that I had to interrupt him in the middle of his call, but I didn't know where the food processor was (think we've used that even less than the immersion blender), then recalled we have immersion one. Of course, after all that, D doesn't want a smoothie now...

Apparently, I am no longer allowed to speak in my house (H), so that's nice...glad I have Dr. T in 10 minutes...

Was there a reason the call had to be interrupted? Could the blender thing have waited until he was off the call?
I do love my immersion blender thingy - I use it all the time.

For those following Esther's vet saga, she's home. We got to pick her up from the vet hospital around 8 PM on Saturday. She has a weird looking shaved leg where they either drew blood or gave her fluids. Not sure which since they did both. I was afraid the bill was going to be a couple of thousand but it ended up being $525 plus the $100 I paid her regular vet who sent her to the vet hospital. So not bad at all. She decided she didn't want to eat while she was hospitalized so we dropped off some chicken broth which usually gets her to start eating. It did. Which I am glad because I am not sure how I feel about force feeding her. They didn't have to do that. It took them a while to get her blood sugar stabilized. So absolutely no food in between her two daily feedings though we can give her as much chicken broth as we want. She got home and stopped meowing and went off exploring. She slept with me last night so I guess she has forgiven me for abandoning her at the hospital for a few days. I think they took really good care of her. I picked up their business card in case I need a vet hospital again in the future. Anyway, I'm glad my little one is home.

I like using our immersion blender for making soup. It's much easier to stick it into the pan instead is having to pour hot soup into the regular blender and then back again.

He'd told me to make her the smoothie, and I'd thought he was on an hourlong call--apparently he was about to end that one and go on another one, so he could have had a minute. More fear that D would flip out.


And I need to use the immersion blender more. Can I ask what all you use it for? I know it can be good for soups and some sauces.

Aw, glad Esther is home, Kit! And that the bill wasn't too bad.

Dr. T was helpful, covered all the stresses of the morning. He said my H can seem like a nuclear explosion when he's angry/stressed. And that it seems the mood of the house often revolves around his moods (also that D is her own Tasmanian Devil). I really wish he'd been our marriage counselor sometimes....He would have gotten both of us to examine our behaviors and reactions, where ex-MC. was more just about mine.

Dr. T suggested trying a "family reset button" when we're stressed/snapping at each other, where we all agree to take a time out for a bit, step back, take some breaths, and cool down, then come together again 5 or 10 minutes later. I said worth a try to do that. It was funny, he said I could suggest it to H and blame it on him (Dr. T), that I could say, yeah, he's (Dr. T) kind of crazy, but that I'd agreed to give it a try.

Our household seems to revolve around my H's moods as well so I understand. It can be tough. I wish I could get my H to go to marriage counseling (or even him to see his own T).

We've figured out (several times!) that ToddlerManatee is freakishly sensitive to our moods (even if we aren't acting much differently than usual) and that's when some of her more challenging toddler behaviors really start to ramp up. We did something similar to the "family reset" last night because we were all in a spiral of unhappiness together and it worked really well. I don't know how much she understood, but we did explain to her that we were all going to take some deep breaths and give ourselves and each other a break.

It's cold here now. Just ordered some new Ugg slippers.

I love mine.

I use my immersion blender to make Guacamole, marinades for all kinds of meats, soups, mayonnaise. In general anything where you could also use a blender, but it's nice that you only really need the machine and can have the stuff you want to blend in any kind of pan or glass.

I am looking forward to having time to cook again - after this semester ends in about a month. I'm taking spring/summer semesters off school at a minimum. I think I'll tell h for christmas i want one'a them immersion thingies. I'm so ready to dust off my cookbooks!!
