Didnt you get a tour of the laundry room? The bike gate should be the extra key they gave you - it should fit the pool, the gym, the common bathroom if any, etc.

Ive lived at my current apartment like a hundred years!
They did give me that checklist (the girl handed it to me with the key) but did not tell me where to put it once I had filled it out so I just emailed it to the apartment manager. I filled it out to within an inch of its life, and also took pictures of the things needing repair as well as a video of every square inch of the place.

No tour at all! I'm going to give these people thousands of dollars a month for a year, and they can't be bothered to show me around? Dang!

Turns out the bike gate has a code, but not the same code as the driveway or the lobby (that knowledge was obtained after a very long email chain where the manager gave me several wrong codes until she landed on the correct one). The master key gets me into my building and also the gym, but I only found that out because I kept sticking keys in things until they opened.

To be honest, I'd rather WFH now that I'm in a safe environment, but remote jobs aren't common here. No idea how I dealt with my 1 hour commute and 830am start time in my old job.

I need to pull out of this depression so I can keep on job hunting without spiraling - I'm dreading explaining the resume gap, and I feel completely useless. I need the money though, I just need to take breaks when I start feeling panicky and start thinking I should never have quit my old job.

I just had an introductory session with a new therapist. She was so ... normal. She didn't cry or swear or tell me how hostile I am. She seemed calm and in control of herself. She was a bit dim, but never mind, we are all a bit dim. What is therapy like with a normal therapist? Maybe this is the wrong crowd to ask.

i dreamed last night that my son made these really cool wooden clothespin or towel holder kinda things. They were short and squat looking and opened like rose petals you had to press the towel up into the 'rosebud' part and it would grasp the towel. They were neat, and I am trying to draw one but not having any luck

Don’t we all think our therapists are normal at first? Give her time.

You don't need a therapist who is a witty verbal sparring partner. At least, I should say, I didn't. That wasn't helpful to me in the long run. Don't get me wrong... it was great fun! Just not helpful.

I can deal with a therapist who isn't as intelligent as I am as long as they aren't vapid. Saying stupid things like "you control your emotions, they don't control you," or "meditation is the key to acceptance and acceptance is the key to happiness" or truly empty things like that. I am out the door!

Try not to let her lack of intellectual brilliance dissuade you. Competence is highly underrated.

To answer your question: my therapist is competent, highly skilled, intelligent but probably not as much as I am, and she has helped me a great deal. I was severely depressed and barely functioning in 2014 when I first started seeing her. By 18 months, my depression was improving significantly. I kept seeing her because there were things I wanted to work on and because of life events (my mother was diagnosed with cancer and passed away, and then I was diagnosed with cancer). We're working towards termination now.

Apparently there was a drive-by shooting about 1/4 mile from my house last Thursday night. I don't remember hearing anything, but it's possible I could have chalked any noises up to early fireworks. That's kind of scary. About the only crime we usually get around here is people breaking into cars and mailboxes.

First in-person session after P's trip went fine yesterday. He apologized if his email response sounded short. I didn't tell him it made me cry, but said he did sound annoyed in it. He also admitted that when I sensed relief, that I might have been right, but that the relief was not because he thought I was being a burden, but relief that I would be okay with not meeting that day. So I guess it's okay if I trust the non-verbal communication I'm seeing, but maybe don't trust what I assume is driving it. That's very hard for me. Anyway, I'm glad he's back and I'm not ready to give up just yet on therapy.

TW for discussion of weight (nothing gross or traumatic, but I figured I'd include the trigger just to be safe):

Scarlett. I get it, kids don't have any filters, but I tried to teach mine not to comment on people's appearance. I'm sorry this happened.

I think that's what hurts the most. Kids say what they're thinking, but adults, normally, don't. This is how the world sees me. And I hate myself.

Thanks everyone for their replies on my T's H going to the ER. She called me Friday after work, and they were waiting on some blood tests, but I believe he is okay. I have never been so relieved! She did apologize for taking so long to call me, because she knew my mind would go to the worst possible situation.

Nah, mine is nearly always calm and in control of herself. I joke about her poker face, we joke about my prickliness.

She's just not dim, way more intelligent than me, but definitely humble (without having low self worth) despite being very accomplished.
