I saw a cute torti kitten online on Craigslist, so I responded to the ad. The kitty was available.
I tried to get the lady to comitt to a date & time for me to come see her, bit she kept ignoring my direct replies. Finally she agreed to a day, but not the time. She was extremely annoying, but I didn’t say anything to her. I couldn’t stop by when she was free, as I work f/t. I told her my days off & she refused to come up with an alternate day & time. I was flexible with being willing to meet her on my days off or after work. She then suddenly wanted me to send her pics of my house & I suddenly had to fill put an application form first. Wth? She was willing to meet me in person first! Weirdo! Then I forgot to send her the form. I texted her that i forgot & she ignored me. I sent her theform the next day & I asked her if she got it. She finally said yes. She rejected us based on the ‘’missing’ information on the form. I filled out almost everything. I left the apartment number blank as we live in a house. I then asked her why she rejected us & she said that it was because of the ‘missing’ information & that we didn’t send her pics of our house. I forgot to do that. The ad was there for a month. We are the ideal candidates as we love cats, have a house, would keep her indoors, take good care of her & love her too. We have no other pets niw & no kids. I was pissed & said that she could’ve asked us for the any info & the pics too. She is a weirdo! Are foster places very picky & strict? I find it odd to how we were rejected soon after the form was sent. She couldn’t read it the first time since the pic was blurry. My friend thinks she’s racist as my last name is recognized as being Jewish. What do you all make of this? Was she weird? I think she was |

If it was a prerequisite that you send pictures of the house she may have seen it as a red flag that you left that important detail out. She’s trying to do the right thing by her cats. I don’t think it has anything to do with race, but rather you didn’t provide the information requested. So no she’s not weird she’s just practicing due diligence.
Next time you apply to adopt a cat make sure you complete all the requirements to safeguard future disappointment. |

I tend to forget things a lot. She could’ve just asked me to send pics of the house instead of assuming that I’m hiding something. Same with the missing information. She didn’t bother to ask me for those things again. Weird. She is going to have a hard time finding a home for that cat by bring to picky. I work f/t & am tired. I’ll literally be working the entire day almost tomorrow because of overtime hours. |

I wonder if it’s the right time to have a cat if you are overworked and tired. You first forgot to send a form on time, then you forgot to attach pictures and missed some info (what info was missing? No one expect apartment numbers if you live in the house)
She maybe worried that if you are that forgetful, you’d forget to take your new cat to the vet or feed her or close the outside door etc You might feel that you are a perfect cat owner, but how could she know that? You put a lot of responsibility on her: she should ask and she should say. But she’s not the one wanting this cat. It’s you. So responsibility is yours, but honestly maybe just wait a little getting used to a new job before taking a cat. |

I always feed my pets. I give them fresh water from the fridge too. I told her that I’d only give her organic high quality food. I’d mostly feed the cat wet food as it’s better for them. Dry food, especially the stuff that’s sold in the market isn’t good for cats. I also said they’d mostly be an indoor cat. We’d only let the cat out outside when we’re outside too. She really is to picky. That ad has been there for over a month. We are good & responsible pet owners. We’re not perfect, but most people aren’t perfect pet owners. We must be doing something right as most of our cats have lived to be between 14-16 years old. They were all loved & happy most of the time. We don’t have other pets or kids. I was going to get another kitten to keep her company too. This lady even said that we sounded like we’d be a good choice for the cat. We would’ve loved her & spoiled her. I still think that she should’ve asked for whatever information or pics she wanted. I would’ve. People shouldn’t be judged so harshly just for forgetting a few things. If she keeps rejecting people for stupid things, then that cat will never end up getting adopted. People like her shouldn’t expect an adopter to fill out everything perfectly. That lady is way to picky & paranoid. I find it to be bizarre too to how she was willing to meet me & show me the cat atfirst BEFORE sending me the form. She took forever to agree to a time & date too despite claiming to have a flexible schedule. She refused say yes or no to times & dates I suggested. She finally agreed to a day, but not the time. She then agreed to see meet a time I said I wasn’t available already as I’d be at work. I didn’t mention my crazy o/t schedule btw to her. Then suddenly she changed her mind. Weird! She is weird! She also originally asked to see our house in person. Wth? I never once had anyone ask to see our house ever. My husband said no as he was uncomfortable with that. I told her that then she said we can just send pics. Why not just accept pics to begin with? As I said, weird & paranoid! My husband is usually home when I’m at work too. So it’s not like the cat would be alone for to long at home. And I’m usually hete when he’s not here. |

I have no doubts that you are a great pet owner. I never implied that you’ll forget to take care of the pets. But this total stranger can’t possibly know all that.
There are a lot of pet hoarders (or hoarders in general) out there so it’s possible she wanted to make sure you aren’t one as it might not be the best environment. Pictures would show that, although someone could send other people’s picture, not even there own house Could you pick up a rescue pet at the shelter? |

I’m sorry to hear you haven’t been able to adopt this particular cat on this occasion. I can understand your disappointment.
In your initial post you described her behaviour as “weird”, and called her a “weirdo”. I must confess this made me want to leap to the current owner’s defence. They are the one with prime responsibility for ensuring the cat is placed safely. This isn’t to say that you won’t be a perfect owner, I’m sure you would be, but it seems there has been a breakdown in communication between you, and I think the onus is on you, not the owner, to deal with that appropriately. Ive had really bad periods of mental health over the years, and had the label “weirdo” thrown at me on many occasions. I’m not sure that was the right approach with your initial post, if you were seeking sympathy for your situation. I hope you’re successful in finding a cat soon, and perhaps be clearer in your communication with the next owner. Jeff. |

She claimed to have a flexible schedule. I offered lots of options, but the only day & time she chose was for when I would be at work. I made my schedule clear to her. It was extremely annoying, but I didn’t say anything. That lady will have a hard time finding someone to adopt her because she makes it difficult to even see the cat to begin with. My husband & I will check out the local shelters soon. Last edited by jesyka; Mar 16, 2025 at 11:47 AM. |

I don’t understand why you think she has mental health issues. She is a poor communicator obviously. I’m not the problem, she is. She could’ve just asked me for the missing information & pics of the house too. That’s what I would’ve done. So it wasn’t all on me. She also ignored my text when I said that I forgot to email her the form. She read it but didn’t respond back for a day. She also made it very difficult to see the cat. Supposedly she has a flexible schedule, but that’s obviously not the case as she took forever just to agree to a day to come over to see the cat. It was very frustrating. I didn’t say anything to her about that though. She finally chose a time to where I said I’d be at work. Weird. She was going to let me see the cat at her place before seeing the form, but then she changed her mind & said that she needs to see the form first & then see our house in person. Very weird! We have never ever had anyone ask to see out house first. I then said no, sorry, my husband uncomfortable with that. So she said send pics then. So, she IS an annoying weirdo. She had the chance to give that cat to a loving home & she blew it with her rigid ways & her paranoia. I wouldn’t be to surprised if she asked to see I.D, & for us to agree to a full background check before she could let us even see the cat, lol 😆 |

@jesyka, I wasn't suggesting she had mental health issues, as I've never met her and don't know her. I was just pointing out that throwing around labels such as "weirdo" and "racist" didn't seem justified to me based upon what you had said.
I don't think it's unreasonable to check out someone who wants to adopt an animal, in terms of are they going to provide the animal with a suitable home and provide it with the care it needs. To me that's being responsible and sensible. By your own admission you forgot to do things, so I would understand that the owner might then question your suitability. The fact that you forgot to do things is on you, not the owner. Either way, you stated in your last post.... Quote:

Also, she took forever just to agree to a day to see the cat. Then it took more time for her to commit to a time. It was to much. She’s definitely way to picky. She will probably have a hard time finding someone to adopt her as she’s so picky & some people. probably won’t bother jumping through hoops to adopt her. Especially for a $125 adoption fee. Anyways, I found a cuter torti to adopt. This other lady is way more chill. I can’t wait to adopt my new kitten tomorrow! She’s a long haired 8 month old torti female kitten. I want her so badly, that I’ll be driving 3 or more hours each way alone on my day off to come get her. |

Thanks. The adoption process for the new kitty was easy. And I got her for free too since the lady daid that anyone who’d drive over 3 hours to adopt a car probably has good intentions!
She was nice, not annoying or paranoid too. lol 😆 The new kitty is an 8 month old torti. She’s cute & healthy. She looks surprised all the time. She’s so cute & funny! |
