Ha. Funny you ask that. I have one in the pot on the stove right now for supper. A rooster. It will have to simmer for a while. They are too tough for anything but soup. But im not a good cook either. I am sure others could make it tastier.
Im glad your roosters get along. That does not happen very often with that many!

I have a coworker who'd be willing to take any pullets but doesn't want roosters (or old hens). Says they don't taste good. Well, I'm not giving up anyone who lays eggs or will be laying eggs soon. So,

I'm thinking about setting up a home for retired hens and bachelor roosters at my mom's place in the country. She has more room and fewer people to be bothered by the crowing.

another funnier thing I went to get dinner at the drive through and the car in front of me had 2 bumper stickers. One said "Love animals, don't eat them." The othe said "I Tofu." All I could think was WTH is this person doing in a drive through at a burger place?? LOL.
They actually do have vegetarian options at a lot of them---like burger king used to be well known---order a burger without the meat plus and order or onion rings and use the rings as a meat replacement...just because you're vegetarian doesn't mean you don't crave the fried yumminess and convenience that is a burger joint. My sister was vegan for like 10 years....she never cooked.

It warms my heart to hear about girls loving their dads. Always loved the idea of being a "daddy's girl". However my dad and I have too much bad history and it's just not the same with my stepdad.
Not all girls are daddy's girls. I know quite a few that are mama's girls. Even going through the rough time of not getting along with their mom, in the end, they are very close as adults.
And I will admit, when I am away from home I want to go home to my 'safety zone'. Even when on a vacation!

Omgosh. When I was young, the rubber seal went and it exploded. There is no way anyone can get me to use one! Lol. But they work wonderfully for tough meat. Thats how KFC gets their chicken so juicy and tender.

There is always coq au vin---French countryside dish made for roosters...I think its braised a long time in the oven plus you know the wine helps....never made it myself though...

My Mum came out of hospital yesterday because she badgered the staff until they agreed. She's still being mean though Today she thanked me for "pulling my finger out of my arse"...oh is that what MI is?!! I'm still waiting for her to pull HER finger out of her arse, but hers is a physical (read 'real') illness, so that's not going to happen. Why does she have to be so mean?!

Sorry you're sick Atypical Hope you feel better soon

Well, the crowing you kind of get used too. I actually lile hearing it and miss the noise.
Thats a pretty good idea. A retirement home for chickens!

Yeah. I'm scared of them too, and I've never had one explode on me. I met a woman years ago in the midwife's waiting room who said one of her nipples was burned off in a pressure cooker explosion.

My mom used to use a pressure cooker a lot when I was young. I was afraid of it even then.

I don't mind the crowing, but I don't want to bother my neighbors.

She doesn't feel well. Not an excuse but it's a reason.

I may be remembering wrong but I thought you had jerk neighbors whose dogs were barking endlessly and even took out a few of your birds....the other day when you said you were getting 17 more I actually had this image of some kind of chicken gang forming after they got bigger and running after the dogs...

I think its a pretty simple recipe just like soup but in the oven I just never tried it because it uses a full bottle of wine for the liquid which is apparently tenderizing.

Willow: I'm sorry you're dealing with meanness right now

AD: I hope you feel better, I hate throwing up.

Newtus: I have no idea how to tell. I know for me I knew the lithium was working when my emotions felt blunted, like they were still there but not so powerful. If it wasn't working I felt the same but shakey. That's the only med I can go off of on how I knew when it was working.

Costello: I can't imagine having a nipple burned off.... I feel dizzy just thinking about it! It would be so cute to build a little retirement home for chickens. I just imagine a bunch of chickens playing shuffle board and Mahjong and lounging under argyle blankets. Haha.

Sometimes: I guess I gauge my experience with vegans and vegetarians off of the ones I work with... one of the educators is currently dating a vegan who won't even eat anything containing oil or fat, which includes nuts and avacado. That educator is very judgemental and thinks that any type of fast food or fried food is disgusting. All of the educators would never, ever go to fast food at all, actually. So, it's surprising to me.

For a second I couldn't tell if you were talking about the pressure cooker or the nipple.
