When I'm at work and I see people pushing the senior citizens out of the way because they are in a hurry...Or when I see people making fun of another for their disability...Or when I see a family with a bunch of foster kids treating their biological kids better then them...I feel SOO bad for these people to where the first thing that comes to my mind is to commit suicide and I wont have to deal with it anymore...No matter WHAT situation it is, suicide seems like my only answer...I have tried to think positive and I have tried to get better, but its not working...I just need to know if these thoughts are even normal?? And why wont they go away??

Sweet,
No, it isn't normal for suicide to be the answer you think of for every problem. That's depression taking control of your thoughts. The thought of suicide doesn't mean that you will do it or even really want to, and it can take some time for those thoughts to go away even after you are feeling better. I had those thoughts last spring for at least three months after I started to feel better following a major depressive episode. Those thoughts do mean that you need professional help though. Are you seeing someone? You are a compassionate person to feel for these people and the abuses that you witness, even when you are feeling so bad yourself. There might not be much that you can do to help with this kind of problems that is constructive, but try to remember that the world needs more sensitive, caring people like you who know how people should be treated and are not going to act like those whose actions are disturbing you. You are a good person and having you as a member of society makes the world a better place. Wendy Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that, you, too, can become great. -Mark Twain

Sweet,
we have discussed this before...........lol. No, suicide is not the only answer, esp for someone so young (and yes, I can hear all of you out there for me to practice what I preach). Your concern for people is wonderful, but realize that you should be concerned for YOU. You need to see a therapist like I do....it won't hurt, and maybe, just maybe, "Death won't be your only hope". Hi Sweet and Welcome to the Board! It IS depressed thinking that is causing these constant thoughts of suicide. The depression can also make us only see the tragedies in life, and none of the good things. Fortunately, there is help available. I hope you will call to get an appointment to see your Dr. about this asap. You needn't suffer like this. You may also want to call, free of charge, 1-800-SUICIDE [1-800-784-2433]; www.suicidecrisiscenter.com/whylive.html. Take care, and let us know how you are doing! Warmest regards. Peanut

Hi Sweet,
I see the beauty in you as someone who sees when others are pushed around and forgotten. That is a very special quality and you should cherish that about yourself. There are so many in this world who don't care or who are to selfish to notice. Suicide isn't a way to solve anything. If the world loses you it loses one more person with a heart. Because you feel things the way you do you will in your life feel more pain BUT you will also be able to change someone elses life. Don't think about ending your life. Your important. Let those suicide thought blow in and blow right out again. The harder you resist, the more stubborn they get. (To see what I mean, try to NOT think about pink elephants for 10 minutes.)
The world needs more heartful people like you. There are plenty of jerks. They make a lot of noise and effect, but they are really a minority. Fortunately they are mostly harmless. Hang around here and you will find that these are good people and that they too have obsessive thoughts. And they are still good people. Like you.

Hey yall, thanks for responding to my post earlier...Tomorrow morning I am going to call my social worker....I think a lot of my depression has to do with not taking my meds...(I have a doctors appt. on Thursday) But today I went to the quizzes here just being curious and I took the one for ADD or ADHD, well I scored a 95 which is pretty high! I know it says that its not meant to be a diagnosis tool, but the doctors could have me being bipolar wrong...And I could be on the wrong meds...Do yall think its safe for me to tell my social worker about my depression, and the cutting, or even mention that I think I could be misdiagnosed? I just don't want them to put me back in the hospital...I hate that place... Can someone please send me some advice? I know I sound like a baby, but I'm not one. I'm just very confused...Oh and thanks for being so friendly and caring...

Hello (((Sweet))): Good for you getting an appointment for Thursday - that's very good news. As for your question about telling your social worker, she WOULD have a responsibility to call someone if you presented an imediate danger to yourself = the fact that you've been feeling pretty depressed isn't that, so as long as you don't say "I'm suicidal right now", you should be able to tell her without risk, although, of course, if you actually are suicidal at this moment, there are much worse things that could happen than hospitalization; I know I'm just glad that you will see your Dr. about your meds soon - you don't deserve to have to suffer like you are, and the right meds can help. Let us know how you are doing until then and after, OK? Warmest regards. Peanut

Hi Sweet,
I'd say go ahead and talk to your social worker. It's good to have someone who knows what you're going through. I really don't see any reason for them to put you in the hospital unless you think you are going to act on the suicidal thoughts, and I don't get the feeling that you are going to do that at this time. If you have been misdiagnosed then they need to know so that you can get the right treatment. And it is entirely possible to have more than one diagnosis. Life is filled with tragedy; if you let it overwhelm you, you cannot enjoy life's innocent pleasures. -Robert Heinlein

A "diagnosis" can be wrong. It might have been a good snapshot of one moment, but you are more complex than can ever be revealed in one moment. Unfortunately, a diagnosis is used to prepare a treatment plan of therapy and / or meds. You can get off to a false start. There is good reason to ask your social worker to step back, with you, and take a fresh look at your situation. I think this is a very healthy approach that shows you are willing to move ahead and care for yourself.

If you feel so bad for others maybe you could try helping people who need it most. We need caring people in the world (as you have witnessed). Don't let your life be a waste when you have so much goodness in you. You should try some volunteer work. There are many good agencies out there who need a caring hand. You would be surprised how good it makes you feel when you see someones face light up because you made their day. Also, why don't you smile at the kid you feel bad for or open the door for a little old lady. It may make a difference to you both. Good luck.
