I hate not being able to sleep. My body is crying for rest, my brain is fried but it will not shut down. I try and lay down in bed and just the feel of the sheets on my legs hurts. Every nerve in my body is humming, like I just ran a marathon or like I need to stretch after sitting in one position for too long. I have 2 very busy days ahead of me and I need sleep. I don't have any problem sleeping during the day. To top it off, I just quit drinking pop, (3 weeks ago) and I don't drink coffee. How am I supposed to say awake during my training conference this weekend?

Hey Guesgirl,

I know the feeling I too suffer sever insomnia. If you can go see your Doctor next week and ask for a sleeping pill that might help you.

I have just bought a cd by Lesley Hay called Morning and Night. Its soothing and really kicks me to sleep.

What about drinking Hot Chocolate?

I hope you get some relief soon as I know how it feels

Is this a chronic issue with you or just occasional insomnia?

Because of the experience I had finally being diagnosed with a sleep disorder I recommend anyone with issues get checked out.

The things you are describing about the feeling in your legs sounds a bit like restless leg syndrome.

I can understand how frustrating this is. I have dealt with insomnia for many years. It all depends on what end of the BP I am in. I either sleep to little or to much and usally able to sleep during the day more then at night. startingfromscratch has mentioned restless leg syndrome which I have also been recently told I have. I now take cyclobenzaprin for restless leg syndrome along with my nightly ambien. I don't take the cyclobenzaprin nightly only when the symptoms of rls are too bad (I take to many meds already and dont want to add more). Hope you get the sleep you need.

I have had insomnia for a long time. I used to get maybe 3-4 hours sleep a night max. The doctor gave me ambiem, but after a while, a tolerance builds up and doesn't work. Then it's back and forth between that, benadryl, the advil pm, or unisom...but by God, don't mix them! Talk about weird stuff happening...night terrors, sleepwalking, strange stuff. Your best bet is good 'ole fashion exercise. A 3-5 mile walk or jog a day will definitely do it.

I have had sleep issues since i was a teenager. I've been taking Ambien for years.

I've been having really bad insomnia myself I only sleep 4 hours a night max since I stopped taking Seroquel 3 weeks ago - I think i have a tolerance to Ambien now - i'm going to have to ask for something else. I am exhausted all the time and can't sleep during the day.

I have been listening to downloaded "sleep music" from itunes which is actually very soothing. Delta Sleep System by Dr Jeffrey Thompson and Relieve Insomnia by Dr Steven Worringham. I've never heard the whole thing, so it does help a little!

Sleep music doesn't work for me, unfortunately. No light, no sound. My racing thoughts is enough to keep me tossing and turning. If, then, if, then, could of, would of, should of, if, then, if, then...

Is this an ongoing issue with you?
If it is, it may be you have a Delayed Sleep Phase (sleep) Disorder where your natural sleep onset is sometime before or after dawn.

I was just about to post a thread about this. So thanks for posting guesgirl.

I think I've only really had trouble sleeping as of late. It's always taken me at least an hour to fall asleep, but there's been a lot going on lately... since I moved to a new city, my routine's been completely messed. Day/night, weekday, it's nothing to me now :/ Just a blur. Sometimes I get anxious just thinking about going to bed.

But I'll try the music for now. I find music helps me relax but I have to turn it off at a certain point. By then my mind's relaxed and it takes little time at all to fall asleep.

I have horrible insomnia too. But I have found that reading a book in a dim room for awhile has really helped get me tired and fall asleep. And if you still feel tired, I heard a green apple after you wake up is more effective than coffee! I have also heard(but not tried) that taking a cold bath an hour before bed releases a certain hormone that will put you to sleep. And to decrease morning fatigue, I have heard you can take a teaspoon of Flax Seed Oil before bed, while your sleeping it restores cells quicker, so you won't be as slow in the morning and tired. I hope this helps!

I've had insomnia for as long as I can remember. I can never fall alseep and I'm constantly tossing and turning. I try going on my laptop and playing on my Nintendo DS because sometimes it helps me sleep. It usually takes 2+ hours for me too fall alseep after I get into my bed. I'll be exaughsted but my mind and body just won't let me sleep. It sucks because I have to get up at 6:00am for school and by then I've only had 3 hours of sleep. My parents could care less, so I'm on my own.
I hate that feeling I get when it's 4:00am and I'm trapped in my room struggling to fall alseep.

I'm sorry you are struggling so much with insomnia. I have somewhat the same problem. I am unable to fall asleep then the next day I'm apt to call in sick to work because I was up to 4:00 in the morning. This has cost me 5 jobs. Other than the atypical antipsychotics has anyone had success with any medications?

I stuggle with insomnia too- have done for as long as I can remember, although over the last few months its got worse. Ive been to my GP who has given me 3 different types of sleeping pill- some which work for the first couple of nights, other which dont work at all. I make sure I have a healthy sleep hygiene routine- warm bath before bed, no TV before bed, dark quiet room etc. Getting off to sleep isnt such an issue, but I wake up every night about 2.30am and can't get back to sleep. I too am on the verge of losing my job

I feel for you - its frustrating to say the least and has a massive impact on day-to-day living.

I've had insomnia since I was 8, and the only way I have ever gotten any sleep is by sleeping tablets. I need to switch every few weeks though, or I develop a tolerance for it. Listening to music keeps me up longer, as it is one of the few things I can concentrate on.

I'm up and running all day with ADHD, so exercise doesn't help either. Don't eat chocolate or cheese before you go to bed (never cheese - I woke up in the boot of my neighbour's car once when I ate cheese before going to sleep ) and for morning tiredness, I just take a cold shower or bath and it wakes me right up.

We've never truly dealt with insomnia before. Lisa's depression usually has always made us sleep 8 hrs or more a night.
Recently, I am guessing because of stress (mom having cancer, high anxiety and other stressful issues) we have not been sleeping well and not nearly enough.
Last week, we got 26 hrs sleep in 6 days. And now..it is 12am and we have to be at work at 8:30am.
We are tired, but not sleepy really. Even took a sleep aid to help a couple hrs ago. I suppose we will just have to force ourselves to get some sleep..or try to.
We are exhausted and have no energy due to this.

Just adding info on our sleep for last night.. We went to sleep or tried to after I posted that above post at about midnight last night.
However, we did not actually get to sleep until sometime after 2am.
Sarah ( who usually gets us to sleep) laid there and everytime we dozed we would start getting the racing heart and adrenaline rushes.=/
exhausted today.
