worst part of the job

Part of my job is covering county courts. Sometimes it's easy. Sometimes it makes me sick to my stomach.

I just got out of a plea hearing for a guy who repeatedly sexually abused an 11-year-old girl. Thank god I skipped his preliminary hearing, where the victims are allowed to testify, and she did. But it was bad enough having to hear the lawyers run through, in perfectly calm voices, what the guy was accused of doing exactly.

I'm sick for that little girl and I'm ticked off for myself, because the person who sexually abused me has not and will never see justice. I thought I had gotten beyond that, but I guess not. Times were different when I was a kid and it just got swept under the rug, left there for me to deal with for the rest of my freakin' life.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through such a triggering scenario. Please do stay safe and know that we are here to help and listen. Remember that the worst thing you can do to someone who has tried to put you down is to smile and walk tall.

awhile back my sister sent me an article....... a music teacher at our old high school was convicted of sexually abusing 3 little girls..... the article had statements from one of the victims and it made me cry. he got 14 years without parole..... should've been life, imo.

I'm sorry -- I didn't know you were sexually abused as a child.

Having to attend this hearing must have been terribly triggering.

When I was writing for our local paper, I sat through I think a day's trial. A 21 year old man had molested three teenage girls in town. It was very difficult listening to all of the testimony.

I hope you're feeling better today.

I could see where this would trigger you. It is also very frustrating when you think you're over something, and you get triggered again.
