This is my first post. I have visited this site many times and have fulfilled my requirement of obessing over my first post, so here goes. I was diagosed with OCD about a year ago and have been taking Zoloft for about 8 months.
The meds have helped but I can't stop thinking or talking to myself(in my head). My doc thinks that what I am doing is repeating my thoughts. Does this sound right to any one? I don't think it's the racing thoughts thing, I guess its just repeating each thought a few times. Help. |

Welcome to the boards, doubletalk. No need to be worried about posting here - we will try to help you as much as possible.
As for being OCD, I can't help you that much. I have taken taken Zoloft before and it helped me. Are you repeating things inside your head? Or just answering questions internally? I'm assuming you're seeing a therapist. If not, try to go to one that specializes in OCD and not just a general doc. I'm sorry I haven't helped, but I did want you to feel welcome here. Hello and welcome,
![]() I myself do not have OCD, so I don't know that much about it.. so the only thing I can say is to write it down, maybe find out what it is that is causing it? Does it happen all the time? Or only when you're stresesd out? I'm glad that the Zoloft is helping, Have you talked to anyone about this? I can understand it's frustrating, what kind of things do you find yourself saying? Can you stop it , or is it ongoing? Hang in there, I wish I had something better to say to help you out. <font color=red>~Sundance~</font color=red> <font color=blue>"Never react emotionally to criticism. hello........i have ocd also and am being treated with prozac which has helped greatly.......i too have repeating thoughts from time to time........the way i deal with this is to write down the thought and then it seems "right" to me and i can move on....of course if these thoughts are one after another..this may not help......make sure to keep your psychiatrist updated on changes and things that bother you still........i went through a lot of trial and error before i found what worked for me.......good luck......julia

Hi,
I have had what they call repetative thoughts. At times at the start of the day a situation or something would take place and especially if I was hurt or upset, I would start having the event or thought go through my head the entire day all the way untill I went to sleep, at times keeping me from sleeping. I take anti depressants and others and now this has seemed to lessen somewhat. It is good to let your doctor know if it becomes a problem in such as it effects your daily life and normal activities. Take Care, Kris ![]() I wish you the best, and the hope for a better day for us all, in out struggles no matter how large or small I wish hope for us all ![]() If you think you have totally gave up, you haven't, because you are here!

Hey double,
You are definetely not alone on this subject matter. I to engage in repetitive thoughts when I am nervous, upset, etc. generally when my emotions run high. I use to think it was the obssessive part of my OCD and until my therapist informed me that it actually was the compulsive part of my OCD which does make more sense to me now. These repetitive thoughts are not racing thoughts like you said per say they are thoughts that I engage in when like I said my emotions run high and I have to say these thoughts a certain number of times in my head before I feel comfortable enough to move on. So you are not alone. Keeps us posted on your progress. I hope you can find comfort in our advice. Good Luck! Jennifer |

By the way I forgot to mention in my last post but what I find helpful when I am compulsive engaging in repetitive thoughts is to put on limit on them. That is I tell myself okay you usually do this 10 times before you feel alright how about trying 8 for now and then more and more I try to lessen it. I would say that I have had many times were I am succesful in doing this. It is hard for me at times really hard but in the long run it loosens the hold OCD has on me. Maybe you could try this sometime see if it helps. By the way I was on Zoloft for my OCD and I found that it did work well. Good Luck!
