They're muscles. Keep working, you'll get them back. Maybe help you on the orgasm front too. No, really.
Thanks for this!

Ironically, when I was waiting for the doctor in the lobby yesterday, I picked up a copy of WebMD magazine with an article on... weight loss through walking! But it does not work for me, and I think I am figuring out why: it does not challenge my body. I grew up in a big European city with lots of public transit and lots of walking between transit stations and downtown, and I am used to walking FAST. I have fast legs. I recently placed 7th out of 38 people in a walking competition at the crack of dawn when I could barely move: I was so sleepy. I remember how my mother and I were at a sea resort and in the evening everyone walked in a park, except that everyone walked slowly and peacefully and we zipped through back and forth. Someone even asked us what business prompted us. There was no business - we just could not have a different pace, that is how our legs moved us, and we enjoyed. So I guess my muscles are all used to this activity, and it does not provide a challenge, so I should heed the doctor's advice and add the elliptical and try my own idea of a bike.

NOW THE REALLY GOOD THING is that she said that all things considering, she does not see me getting any heavier.
Its good that she doesn't see you getting any heavier

Don't know how to say this without offending... 187 doesn't sound like you are very overweight - I guess it depends on how tall you are...

I don't mean to be rude or discouraging, I just got the impression from all your posts on weight that you were larger - my bad, sorry

Are you being realistic to say you need to loose 40 lb or do you think that your self image is still a bit messed up (you said you had a ED when you were younger)

Hope you can prove the doctor wrong and get to a healthy weight that you are happy with

Thanks for asking. I am not tall: I am 5'41/2''. "40 lbs extra" comes from BMI tables, nothing to do with self image. But right now I would gladly take being 160 - I look decent at 160.

Just checking have been caught out before...
I've been using myfitnesspal since it was recommended to me on this forum. It's a really easy to use calorie counter app that you can put on your phone or log into on your computer. It has a really large database of foods which makes it easy to use and you can make it remember recipes and meals that you commonly use.

I still need to lose 10 kg (from my BMI figures, I'm 168cm tall) which will be hard cos the last 5-10 kilos are the hardest. I figure I need to start running too - I have the couch to 5km app on my phone too but haven't started using it yet - might start this afternoon.

I had a miraculous weight loss experience 5 years ago. I worked with a massage therapist who specialized in biofeedback and pain management. I had weekly hour and a half massage, she used guided imagery, telling me to image a goal, and image people asking me amazed how i'd reached this goal in 3 months time. My goal was weight loss. My baby was 5, it was time to let that weight go. I know I don't want any more children so time to let go of that weight. At any rate, I lost 30-40 lbs in 3 months, and people stood amazed asking me how I did it...

I know massage isn't an option for many. I also know many people don't even like it, being massaged. But I have to say I swear by it for the reason of my weight loss back then.

Now I'm on lithium and up to possibly 180 lbs, I don't even dare step on the scale. I'm 5'7", and my goal is to lose 30-40 lbs again. I want to fit in my clothes, ya know? I haven't had extra money for about 3 years. But business is picking up and I'm getting more and more stable mentally, my children are more stable mentally, so I've been able to work more. I think I'm going to invest in the massage therapy again, I really hope the same lady still does it.
Thanks for this!

Did you mean to say "cyberjog"? If you do not mind my asking, what is your running speed?

That's the good thing about cyber jogging we can run at our own speeds. I run 1 mile in 13 min which is about 4.6 mph.. I'm just starting to get back to running.

Started on week 3 day 1 of c25k

MTW, I hope you are okay. This sounds a bit extreme and I would hate to see you hurting yourself. ((hugs))

Yep, cyberjog! My eyes are failing me, too much staring at the screen.

I am not sure how fast I run as I have never tried to figure it out. I do have a watch that supposedly tells me this, so I guess I should try it. My guess is that I am slow! I run in the forest here as there is an extensive trail system. I bet if I run into a cougar or bear, I will run a lot faster!
Thanks for this!

Piper thanks Im always walking a thin line ( ed wise). The 40lbs that the damn psych meds piled on me are completly unacceptable to me and I finally have put my foot down to myself and I know that this " diet " will allow me to drop this weight quickly and then i can just maintain.

((( Hugs))) thanks for caring

I have lost 4 lbs so far. This really IS Metformin as I eat as usual and walk as usual, no changes. But the splendid thing is not even the weight loss (although, if it is a true weight loss and not normal fluctuations, it is 10% of what I need to lose - better something than nothing, no?), it is the return of my normal taste. With psych drugs, I developed a taste for sweetness in tea - I simply could not have tea without sweetener. So I used Truvia (Stevia), and although it has no calories, it has carbs, so it is better to do without it. Now I am back to normal - I can drink unsweetened tea.

This is just after several days of taking Metformin. We will see if the weight loss continues or stalls.

I hate drs being so dismissive of weight gain. It's important, relevant to mental health and leads to all sorts of dangerous illnesses. It's the making out you're the one to blame that winds me up! I was working out 11hrs a week in really intensive karate and aerobic classes and eating very healthily and still put on 10lb a month.
I don't take anything anymore (except NAC) it's not ideal, scarey at times but I'm always looking and adding new stuff to self management.
Really hope you get the weightloss you're looking for.

I was thinking though, if I knew meds would work and I would be stable/normal and not had any body dysmorphia or anxiety issues would I take them and cope with 30lb extra? Yes! Im exhausted.
Thanks for this!

Actually, 40 lbs is down to the upper limit of normal weight - not to the "ideal" weight. So it is not an overstatement.

Today the BMI is 30.64. If I manage to lose a few more pounds on Metformin, the BMI would be <30. And that would mean not obese but "just" overweight, that would be good.

I have seen such morbidly obese people at the grocery store today, both men and women, that I became a little ashamed. I am svelte in comparison yet I worry so much. I felt very very sorry for them.

She says 30-45 g of carbs per meal and 15 g of carbs per snack. I do not know how I will survive that. And I thought I was already eating low carb diet by not eating wheat and rice. My favorite yogurt, maple, is 22 g already. So that is not a snack. An apple is 19 g. One cup cherries is 23 g (and I used to eat them by the bag - maybe that is my problem?). Thanks god cheese has no carbs.

This is brutal, to me.
