I feel much better when I have veggies with my breakfast. I don't know why. I saute up some zucchini, onion, bell pepper, garlic, and leafy green (usually chard). I throw an egg or two on that on the stove & scramble it in. Salsa on top. I feel great much of the rest of the day. I can't get the motivation up to do that a lot of the time, but when I do, it's a great start.
Thanks for this!

We need a solid schedule of sleep - that would probably be the first step. When we combine sleep with eating healthy, it will give you enough energy in the long run.....a change in diet will help but it will take some time to kick in. Every study says caffeine, sugars, and the like aren't good substitutes for just living healthy.

For me, I don't recommend anything out of the normal......steak, chicken, fish, pork, rice, pasta, and vegetables are the staples of my supper. I just mix it up. Also, having some fun with it will help your approach to it.

Put a menu together beforehand and then just go through the store and get what you need. IMO, you don't have to eat "super healthy", just normal. One thing I DO watch closely is my salt intake - I take 1200 lithium a day but I've never been a salt guy anyway. My BP is abnormally low. And I have anger issues. Go figure!

Anyway, a week for me looks like this -

-Baked chicken with tater tots and broccoli, cookies
-Cod with rice and asparagus, more cookies
-Pasta primavera (carrots, more asparagus, mushrooms), cupcakes
-Pizza and a salad, frozen Hershey's kisses (oh yeah)
-Grilled steak with a baker and zucchini or spinach, ask my kids for candy

I also eat plenty of eggs, bacon, yogurt, granola bars, and Pop Tarts, mostly for breakfast. Lunch is soup, maybe a sandwich but no cold cuts.

All right! Rock on!
Thanks for this!

As far as food goes my coconut rice with evaporated sweetened milk.
My guy husks fresh coconut. But I think you can buy coconut ready in the store.
I also like the Emerg C vitamin powder.

I've never thought about veggies in the morning. Omelette. Good tip. Thanks.

I like wholegrain toast, almond butter and jam most days for breakfast, with a decaf coffee. That gets me going.
Thanks for this!

Not easy to find them open here. Even if I'm surrounded by coconuts.
People here, (me included) pay so they throw them away.
It's too hard opening them, and dangerous. You're lucky.

I feel much better when I don't go crazy on the carbs, so I've been trying to reduce them (because I looooove carbs). I think it help with both mood and energy.

I tend to skip breakfast and lunch a lot through my work week, so I won't offer much there. Very often a bowl of oatmeal for lunch here.

I like just fruit or veggies w/ hummus or cheese for snacks. Sometimes I'll have a small plate with a little of all of them. Or bananas or apples with peanut butter.

Dinner for me is very often just a meat and a vegetable. Whatever is on sale. Tonight I tried spaghetti squash stuffed with spaghetti sauce, Italian sausage, and some mozarella (it was delicious).

I used to think that eating lots of sugary stuff would give me more energy. I used to eat candy and refined carbs all day, including in the morning when I woke up. (I was a college student at the time, so I ate lots of junk food. ) It actually made me less energized, though. I was also underweight/sickly from eating that way.

Eating healthy, well-balanced meals helps give me more energy. It also helps to start off the day with breakfast. I have 0 energy if I don't eat breakfast.

Some of my favorite things to eat are: granny smith apples, sandwiches on whole wheat bread, nuts, yogurt, oatmeal, crackers, edamame.
Thanks for this!

Right on, thanks. I'm also on 1500 Depakote but my p-doc will taper me off in a month or so. I drop more pills a day than they did at Woodstock.

I'm glad I can inspire someone - that's what we're here for. Long short - IMO, trying to be a "super hero" with food and life just isn't in the cards for most of us. We all sort of forgot how to live when BP took over. I was a nut, literally. I drank too much, went on rages around the house, and acted abnormally in general. So now, I just seek peace, simplicity, and some level of normalcy. As far as diet goes, I just watch what I eat and exercise two or three times a week when I can get to the gym. No pressure.

Watch your salt intake on the lithium! Soup and packaged foods like tater tots can be a killer for me but table salt isn't even used in my house. Thankfully, no one really likes it.
Thanks for this!

Isn't there any body who knows how to open coconuts. Then you put the white meat into a food processor to get it into tiny pieces to cook w the rice. Really cleans you out too.
Or get some from a health food store?

Both times I tried to open a coconut, I was at it with a screwdriver and hammer. Got them open, but it was hard work Bipolar and food. There has got to be an easier way!

Im so hungry now. But if i go downstairs and make something, my dad will waddle down in his underwear and ask me 20 questions.

I am a prisoner in my own house, and always have been.

At least they taught me how to be cautious, meticulous, stealthy, ect.

He goes in my room when im not home. He audits the verizon sht to see what websites i go to. I have no privacy. None of our doors have locks. Not even the bathroom. Not even the downstairs bathroom that has 2 doors. Not my room. Not nothing.
