Damn! 3:00 am & I was up early yet again! This always seems to happen in the late spring/ summer. I've been diagnosed aith SAD - winter depression, during which I sleep too much - but I seldom read about sleep deprivation during high daylight hours. I've only been getting 3-5 hours sleep for a few weeks now & don't nap during the day. I don't feel like I have an episode coming on...I just feel mentally healthy. I take a sleeping pill & 2 mg of Klonopin before bed, but even that's not doing any good. Is anyone else experiencing this.

True dat! It's been a strange spring. It arrived late & is now all over the board. My sleep issues happen every year, though. The weather should even out after Memorial Day, so I hope your sleep issues take care of themselves. (BTW - I love the "Cheezits" reference. )

I go to bed at 12 and ALWAYS wake up at 3:30am. I have to force myself to sleep until at least 5:30, preferably until 7:30 if/when possible. This is not normal for me, but I'm definitely not manic.

I can relate, sadly.

To put it bluntly: YES! I take 3 meds that are supposed to help me stay asleep for a decent number of hours. Well, I sleep for 4 hours then completely awaken. I cannot function on that small amount of sleep, so I return and sleep for another 90 minutes. Strangely, the "return" sleep is usually the best quality sleep.

My days are all screwed up, though, and things are always running late (unusual for me), simply because my sleep is messed up. Extremely frustrating.

I am wondering what your other sleep symptoms are. I was getting only 3hrs sleep nightly before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I simply owed my sleep health to my mental health. Now, having a cpap machine I sleep a full night's sleep and wake up refreshed.

I know for me it's the temperature more than anything. It's hard to cool off, even with an AC unit. Occasionally my husband also wakes me up because he's in pain and can't sleep.

I do have a CPAP machine and Lunesta, so I get some good sleep.

Yes, things are a bit off, seemingly due to the weather change -- the arrival of Spring! My sleep , my H'S sleep = all messed up!

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I have sleep apnea & use a CPAP machine. When I can sleep I sleep more soundly with the CPAP, but staying asleep is the problem. There's also nothing more my pdoc can do because I already take 30 mg of Restoril & 2 mg of Klonopin before bed...that's quite a med arsenal, but I can't seem to stay asleep. I'm not whining - I just wondered how many others are dealing with this issue right now. Sleep deprivation often preceeds an episode, so I hope that's not what I'm waiting on!

I'm also not getting enough sleep. I live so far north that the length of the day changes very quickly for some months and that is when I have the hardest time to sleep.

I also relate.

NY is the same way by the way. Temperature changes 20 degrees between morning, day and night. One day I'm heating the bedroom, the next day I run AC. Completely messed up.

I'm not manic, I'm depressed but I can't sleep either. I have to take sleep meds. Without meds I'd sleep no ore than 2 hours at a time and wake up around 5 am tired and feeling sleep deprived. And I go to bed at the same time every day, at 10pm.

I can’t sleep either. I recently stopped the low dose Seroquel for sleep, and I really don’t want to start up again. My pdoc has prescribed 25 mg for sleep. I noticed I’m just too zombie-like with that on top of the lithium the next day.

I think it’s spring that is overstimulating me. I never knew about spring’s effect on a mood disorder and never took the term spring fever seriously. Sigh.

I have the CPAP too. I’m taking gabapentin which helps me fall asleep but lately I just don’t want to go to sleep and I wake up far too early
