not eating is deffinatly not the answer if you are having hunger pains you should eat...im 250 trust me i know how your feeling but if you eat 6 to 8 meals a day now im not talking about huge servings i mean moderately small meals through out the day and even some fruit for snacks when you are hungry then you might feel better and im glad you havnt been purging ...its a way to get rid of the food but is deffinatley one of the worst ways to do it...you could exercise the food off(not over exercise but exercise) insted ya know well i hope things work out for you and i hope ive help a lil bit
much love

What about coffee? It is often used to supress hunger. I know coming from me, dealing with an eating disorder, it doesn't sound too healthy. I don't encourage skipping meals and it has been proven that 6 small meals a day will help manage one's weight and maintain control around food. Have you tried any smoothies or protein drinks to help kill craving throughout the day?

((((((((((((((((((((((((hope))))))))))))))))))))))))))

when my last weigh in was 227, something happened here. i lost 87 lbs 8 years ago. i put 15 back on and have stayed the same since.

you may not like what you're going to hear, but know i would NEVER hurt your feelings. if you don't like the weight, no one can do anything about it but you. your stomach is growling because it's used to having something in it, and it's churning the food already there...growling doesn't mean "feed me". you might be misinterpreting that. i was as well! whew, was i.

i had to learn to listen to the "other" things my body was telling me. i've finally been able to listen to my body and feed it only when it wants fed. by doing that, i'm able to eat snacks, etc. i had to listen to my body and not my mind. Hungry ALL the time.........UGH

at first it was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hard! however, i kept thinking of the size 20 that no longer fit (i'd never been that big in my life). i'm now a 10-12 and have been for 7 yrs. at first, i couldn't listen to my body, because i didn't know how and was misinterpreting. after a bit, it was easier. the big thing...if i messed up, i didn't give up! i always had before, even though i thought i was huge at a size 14, and wasn't.

honey, i know what you're going thru. i'm still a big girl in here because i'd always been. it's so painful. BUT it can be done. i promise. if i can, ANYBODY can.

love,

kd

Just for perspective, I'm having the same sort of trouble: I don't know when I'm hungry, which is a big part of what I'm supposed to be working on these days. When I try to feel hunger in my belly, I can't tell what's going on in there. My T says to look for other ways to tell: sometimes it's a headache, sometimes it's irritibility, etc. It's not always in your belly that you experience hunger.

I hope this helps.

Hi Everyone

I had an eating disorder for over 20 years - never knew whether I was hungry or not - would starve for two days and binge for one then two. Used laxatives, even chewed food up and spat it out.

But now I'm a lot better, my weight is normal and has been for several years, in fact people think I'm slim, but I'm not inside.

The way I overcame constantly eating was not buying in a lot of food, not buying anything high-fat or high-sugar (I'd ruined my teeth). Eat lots of greenery, tomatoes etc. These days, I can even go out for a meal with friends, that's something I avoided for years - I just wanted to rush home and binge. I feel much more civilised now.

What you have to do is get out for a walk, lots of walks, get a hobby - mine is now creative writing and poetry, keep occupied with something you really love doing. I go in for competitions and belong to several local groups. It does wonders for your self-esteem when other people value your input.

Don't just sit around thinking about the fridge.

Try it - just think how lucky we are to even be born, we only pass this way once and we must make the most of it, not just sit around thinking destructive thoughts and eating for comfort and wasting our lives away.

Does this make sense? It did for me, and with no drugs or therapy whatsoever, I did it all on my own by finally thinking it through - only you can do this!

Cheers, JuneB Hungry ALL the time.........UGH

exercise has helped me in the past (i refuse to exercise now)

food that contains a lot of water (fruits, veggies, salads, soups) are supposed to help

i know when i only eat a few select things, i end up feeling hungry. i think that's why "they" say to eat a balanced diet.

probably the most important thing is: eat several SNACKS throughout the day. the portions should be small. most people cannot do that so they eat large portions, which encourages the starve/binge cycle.

Hi Jennie

I think the snacking diet has been discredited as it leads to constant grazing and also isn't good for the teeth. Being disciplined to the point of eating only three times a day is a good way to go, and trying not to eat after, say, 7 o'clock in the evening. I found this very helpful. Of course the fat is still waiting to go on at any time, so I keep a watchful eye on my intake, but do not actually count calories. Instead I avoid anything high fat or added sugar. I try to eat a balanced healthy diet, as you mentioned, but if we feel really peckish we can nibble celery or other low-cal green foods. My appetite has been under control for the past 15 years now, after 20 years in the wilderness. I always look back on that as a complete waste of my life.

Hello again everyone

I should have added that I find it very comforting and satisfying to chew sugar-free gum in the evenings to stop any desire for food after 7 o'clock. It is also very good for the teeth.
