Wow my arms felt weak and achy today after yesterdays session.

After work went for swim, it was very relaxing for my achy muscles.

Really could not be bothered today, on verge of falling asleep after work but made myself get ready and go.

I took a gentle jog to gym, it was tiny, less than a km but no knee reaction so that is a good sign. Will edge the distance up over the next week and see how it goes.

OK, I went, it was fine during but 2 hours after I was in pain. My H is encouraging me to keep going saying I need to slowly build up. I have figured out how to cope with the pain (it happens when I forget I can't carry to much, etc.) and will try again Tuesday...

Oh no, that sucks. Definitely listen to your body, if there are moves that aggravate then avoid them. Did you talk to your teacher about your injury?

No, even doctors seem sort of hesitant to tell me anything definitive as far as what I can and cannot do. They say things like "that's bone pain, there's nothing we can do." So I just experiment and try. When I first started walking, that was extremely painful also so I think it is best just to keep trying and not assume anything about what I might be able to do. If I had let pain stop me--I would have been stuck in bed for a year. Mind over matter......

I am kind of achy from some too extreme stretches from doing yoga twists. The teachers are young and flexible so I have to be careful with them. Today I cut back and modified so I felt good after the workout. Nice not to over do it.

Yes I agree CANDC, a good yoga teacher should help us to modify. Some of those stretches can be quite difficult for many of us.

Have you tried Tai Chi hopingtrying? It can be gentler to do. Not that I am disagreeing with your detrrmination to push through, you alone will understand the capabilities of your body.

I didn't realise how hard your walking routine was to begin, good for you keeping on!

Yesterday I meant to swim but injured my hand at work and rested with ice pack instead. Today I worked then went out to visit family - had a good walk with my dad.

Yes the teachers mostly do offer modifying but some are better than others. watch out for gungho teachers that can do anything. They are not the best teachers

Well yesterday ended up a lazy day after work, I just couldn't be bothered - plus gym & pool was closed.

Today was day off so did better - swim this morning and gym workout this afternoon.

Prefab--you sure have gotten a lot of working out in......Uh, I have the flu (H has had it for an entire week, hope mine doesn't last that long). I am not a big TV watcher but plan to binge watch today because my coughing wrecked my sleep. I will continue walking though.

Rest is the best remedy for flu - exercise can drive infection into system, make sure you keep walking light!

How are you doing Hopingtrying, is your flu getting better?

I went to the gym after work today, quite enjoying the cardio work, not tackling the weights however...

I still have all sorts of crud in my head/lungs; getting quite bored and my injury actually hurts less when I am a bit more active (perhaps I am just a baby about it--it has been almost 2 years since I injured it!). Got desperate today and starting taking an old antibiotic that I didn't finish because of an adverse reaction (I honestly can't remember all of them other than extreme gas!--H said I'm still his delicate flower anyways )

Glad someone can work out! -- Keep on pushing it!

I have been having lots of mucous in my lungs but the ginger tea helps. Ginger spice 1/2 tsp and cup or hot water. If I do not like the taste I might sweeten with honey.

Yeah our son has had an asthma flare up first time in years due to horrible cold - there are so many viruses about. Take good care both.

General rule I heard about exercise, if it is in head then okay but if in the chest then don't.

Hope the ginger recipe helps, if nothing else it will taste nice I'm sure.

Hope you are okay CANDC, I think a lot of one type of exercise can stress the body, even yoga.

When I started running constantly I would hear 'cross-train' but I never did, it's only recently I have mixed in other activities, hoping the variety will make me more resilient against injury.

Thought I would have rest day today but tonight I got the urge to put on my running shoes and go out, went for a gentle 5k in the rain and it felt good - no knee trouble.
Thanks for this!

Hey Prefab,
Yes I am feeling better every day. I am finding Tai chi and walking give me different kinds of work outs. Yoga taught by women often emphasizes hips, not one of my more flexible places. So the others help me.

Yes diversity is better. Also I am listening to the needs of my body and that really seems to help. Also seasonal factors, with the cold more contracted muscles so not pushing.

Hope things are well with you

I struggle with tight hip flexors too (most runners do) and also have to be careful with those hip opening stretches.

Not such a good day for me, struggling with anxiety and did not exercise today - my body probably benefited from a rest day but not sure my mind did.

I'm not so sure it was good tired CANDC, I ramped the resistance up on the machines to give me a tougher workout and tbh I think I overdid it - I'm new to the gym and still learning.

This morning I went for a 5k jog, felt a bit lack lustre and was hard on return running into headwind, still feeling yesterdays gym session perhaps.

Well done on getting back into your Tai Chi, and some yoga too, hope your body is recovering.

prefab,
the way I know if I overdid it is I hurt the next day

I am not much on machines but I do work with small weights. My idea is to use lighter weights and get full extensions and more vigorous workout rather than heavier weights and less movement. But I am not a physical fitness instructor so ask yours if you have one to see what they say.

Tai Chi and Chi Kung were very relaxing and energizing.
