Still trying to figure out how to do effective cardio in the confines of my current situation ... so I did a repeat of yesterday's exercises.

It was getting late (I hate exercising in the dark), and so I just did something. Which is ... something.

Hey Coco, I hope you're doing okay this evening. I saw your other post about evenings and nights being hard. That's often my worst down period too.

I hear a lot of people suffer depression severely first thing in the morning. Many of them have brain chemistry induced depression. Mine started with situational depression ... and dark, lonely, empty evenings are really not good for that. I've often wondered if there's a correlation there with the timing between the two types.

Oh wow. I had total drama morning depression before I started taking my AD. I didn't know that about chemical / morning VS situational / night depression.
Where did you hear that?

Coco, I hope you're doing well. How are you doing? Prefab, how are you?

Oh, I didn't hear it. It's just a slight pattern I've noticed and wondered briefly about. Of course without statistically valid studies done with proper controls, it's just idle musings.

People with neurotic and curious personality types tend to think and wonder aloud about such things ...

... and socks.

They tend to wonder about socks? Or wear awesome socks? In my experience its the latter.

Hey everyone ,

I stayed inside most of the day because it rained the whole day. I did go run one errand and fuel up for the week. I’m not sure why but in the evenings I get very low and have had the feeling of wanting to cry. I read an article saying some people get depressed in the evenings because they have nothing to do and the extra time is just anxiety getting them. I have heard some people get depressed first thing in the morning. I use to take Zoloft, did for one year. It gave me digestive problems, I gained a lot of weight and my anxiety was through the roof. I tapered off a few weeks ago. I’m not interested in any other meds. This weight is really bothering me but I know it takes time. I do use coping skills and that really helps. Thank you Starrysky and Cepheid for checking on me. You both are great.

Aw, thanks. You're welcome.

Yeah, it could be a bunch of things, but I know that moping around in the evening sure doesn't help. So, I try to always have something to do and at least distract myself during the evening hours. But I'm sure that's part of your coping skills.

I hope your weight loss continues to go well. When I went off a particular medication, my weight loss was very gradual but it kept going for quite some time. I did eventually return to the weight I had been years before. Although my main concern became eating healthier, more than for weight loss.
Thanks for this!

Hi Everyone, I feel like a bit of an imposter as I have been clear of depression for so long now - I keep coming here almost as way to ward it off. It's awful, it really is, and I'm sorry for those of you struggling with it right now. In my experience the darkness of winter months makes it feel worse, and the evenings are very dark. Getting out when it was light always seemed to help me. Lightboxes did nothing for me (it had to be daylight). But everyone has their own experience.

Thanks for asking after me Starry, I am glad you got out, I got a 5k in tonight after a week of feeling too unwell to run (headaches every day) it felt good!

Hey prefab, I never mentioned because it just sort of faded -- but I'm happy that your wobbly episode from late last year didn't develop into something more serious. But I'll still try to dig up more Weeble pictures if you like.

Sorry about the headaches.

Today I went to town (literally and figuratively) doing something emotionally exhausting. I also spent hours fighting with a messy winter storm. Exercise class was canceled (boo). I'm okay, but tired.

Wishing everyone else well.

Hey Prefab. I don't think one has to only be depressed or be going through something to come here. I enjoy your presence and I see you helping people. If it helps at all to come here, you should. I'm glad your headaches are gone. And I'm glad you're glad you did a 5k. I bet it did feel good!

Ok so I'm struggling with a bit of a problem. My goal is to go to the gym 15x this month of January. I have gone 0. I got the idea from my gym's holiday exercising initiative and raffle, where you'd go to the gym 15 times, and then enter to win a prize, within a certain time frame.

If anyone has ideas on how to get myself to go, I'd be so happy. I could google it too. So please don't feel like you have to go out of the way if you can't think of anything. I'm just struggling with resistance. I'd be thrilled to find a way to get myself to go.

I think ...other parts of my life influence my attitude towards the gym, too. I planned to go today, but there was something else really hard I had to do (socially), and didn't, and then I was disappointed in myself, and it made going to the gym harder.

I walked a little today. I have not been motivated enough to go to the gym. I called my local Y and asked if they have a indoor walking track. They do not because there’s a park near them that has an outside trail. I’m not comfortable outside walking on a trail. There is another Y that has an inside track but it’s like a 30 minute drive. I weighed myself and I did not gain any weight over the holidays.

Starrysky - I read that if you get your clothes for the gym ready the night before it helps get you in the mood to go. I hope Google can give you more answers.

And thank you, Coco! Putting on my workout clothes helped me! Also telling myself I could stay for 5 min if I wanted, helped too.

The people I know who have stuck with the gym (not me!) seem to have routines (like my sister always goes on her way home from work) and many have gym buddies who they go with.
Thanks for this!

I’m heading to the chiropractor shortly. I do exercises there and the chiropractor adjusts my back. I start physical therapy tomorrow. I’m not sure how long my sessions will be.

Starrysky - I think it is so great that you went to the gym. Regardless of how long we stay it’s the fact that we did something. Five minutes on one visit and maybe ten the next. Kudos to you!

Definitely agree 5 mins is a good starting point.

I got some unexpected inspiration on my run tonight, it was dark, rainy and my first longer run in a month. As I went into my 6th km I was feeling very unfit (& regretting my bad eating over Christmas), I passed a gentleman running in the opposite direction who I know is over 80 - he smiled and waved. That kept me going the rest of my run. He doesn't run fast these days but he gets out there and keeps active - inspiring!

That is really nice.

I'm planning on going to the gym tomorrow.

Yes it jerked me out of my internal moaning! Some people just make you smile.

Hope everyone is doing well, riding out this winter time as best we can.

I have not done as well as I hoped but got a 5k in tonight, I am glad to be indoors now though as the weather is wicked out there.

I went to a yoga class yesterday. It was (apparently!) intermediate..they were doing headstands! But the teacher also gave some modifications I could do, and I sat in the back. I think I'mma go back to beginner. No shame in that. Intermediate really wasn't that hard sans the headstands. It was just a faster pace.

I'm watching a v-log on Facebook right now. It's by Gretchen Rubin, who has written about happiness and habits in books. She is talking about quitting sugar. Its pretty inspiring. She's talking about how you don't really lose weight from exercise, but from diet change. And she recommended a book by Gary Taubes, about healthful eating, which I totally put on hold at the library.

As I updated in another thread, I had that awful flu that is this year's special. I was bed-ridden for a couple of days and haven't gotten any exercise at all for about a week. I finally went out yesterday. I am feeling better today, although still a little sick and rather worn out. I think I may just try and do some walking and stretching tomorrow and see how that feels.

Thanks for asking.

No problem. And I don't always search for peoples threads / posts on here, so I may not have seen your post. Though I did see you were sick. I don't mind talking about anything health / mental health related in this thread, hence, I asked here. Glad you're feeling better!!

Flu can knock us for quite a while afterwards, take good care and don't rush back to activities too fast Ceph. My son has this Aussie one at the moment and it is a nasty one.

I am contemplating a run right now but very cold and windy here so not sure it will happen.
Thanks for this!
