I went to the gym this morning. I treaded the mill, and I used some weight machines. I think something is wrong with my shoulder. I have a doc appt. for January. Oh, and I have a new awesome music mix to workout to, and did I mention it is awesome?

Going to class is what makes all the difference for me. It's a small class so I know the people there. Just going to a gym and doing my own routine is too yucky. The external motivation and being in a group helps tremendously, although some days it's really hard to put on the brave public face. I don't think I'd be able to keep it up on my own. I can't remember if I mentioned it to you, but mood stabilization is an important reason for my exercise efforts. So I try to keep up with the solo efforts at home to prevent feeling even worse. ... And so I don't pass out in class. ![]() Last edited by CepheidVariable; Dec 19, 2017 at 10:22 PM. Reason: spelling exercise |

![]() Ugh, sorry about the shoulder. It's always good to have those things checked. I was trying not to do the common male thing of upper body work but little legs. I ended up overextending my knees, and had to go off the weights and do some rehab/physio work. I'm probably being overly cautious, but I'd like to keep my original knees and keep exercising. I've since studied up on mastering proper form for those leg exercises. (For example, when doing squats with weights, do not go too low -- knees should stay behind the toes.) Got a tracklist for the music? |

Hi Starrysky, My day was busy. I did get a thirty minute walk in. I had a lengthy appt with my new therapist. There were mountains of paperwork and history questions. I was there almost two hours. I seen my primary doc’s PA last Thursday. I’ve been having problems with my right shoulder. I have muscle spasms in it and it hurts to raise it up. After she examined me, she concluded that there were signs of me needing physical therapy. I was rear ended last month. I’ve been going to the chiropractor. The PA said I need physical therapy not the chiropractor. She put in a referral for it. It’s raining tonight so I did not walk my dog far or as long as I normally do. I hope everyone is doing ok.

I think its great that you go to a class with, it sounds like, people you like. I went to a gym near my parents house for a while, and I just did not feel like I clicked / connected with the people in my classes or the staff. It didn't help that I struggled with deep depression, felt shy, and didn't show up most of the time. So people didn't really get a chance to know me. I love the gym I go to now. Friendlier. ![]() But yeah, I was curious to know your motivation behind being able to go. Thanks for sharing with me. ![]() ![]() |

![]() Yeah, my shoulder's been bothering me for a couple months now. It doesn't hurt A LOT. But it hurts. Like a dull ache, and when I move it in certain ways it hurts more. Overextending? What's that? I have issues with my knees. Not good at certain yoga poses because of it. I don't know what is wrong with them, but I just keep safe with the poses and modify. So you're saying you might have to get surgery? I don't think you're being overly cautious. I kind of am like that too, like I want to make sure I'm moving the right way. And the safe way. Maybe you can tell me about ballet. I was a ballet dancer in middle and high school, and I still walk with my feel out sometimes. But all the people I talk to now say to keep my feet forward. I think that my legs grew differently though, because I was basically a kid when I did it. I think ballet made my adult legs a little wonky. I just do what's comfortable. I think thats important. I do have a tracklist! I will post it later!! ![]() |

And, oh no -- nothing like surgery with the knees. I just don't want to do something stupid and end up like that. You get into your late 40s and you start to worry a little about stuff like that. The overextending was (I think) going too far on the squats and putting undue pressure on the joints which eventually made them sore. Sore muscles are okay, but joint discomfort makes me nervous. When stopping that didn't clear it up within two weeks, I dialed things back to elastic therapy bands and various knee-friendly exercises. I think I'm good to go back to my original weight routine now that I've done a little rehab strengthening and confirmed proper form. I did see a chiropractor (more of a physiotherapist though -- long story) about that, and they thought I was doing the right things. (Erk. ![]() ![]() I'm afraid I don't know much of anything about ballet, or ballet type side effects. ![]() |

I say this way too often but I need to get back to yoga, you are inspiring me Starry - hope you had a good session.
My migraine was definitely a good reason to stay on the sofa, but on the days before I was just lacking motivation, coming here does help motivate me when I read everything you people are doing. I got in an okay 5k tonight, so that's a start. ![]() PS - Tonight's playlist - Madonna (her 80s stuff). |

I did not exercise today. I spent the day getting ready for 1 of 2 holiday parties. I used coping skills all day. Music is such a big help. I did some self-care too. I soaked in water and listened to a mental health podcast. I did walk my dog a few days before leaving for the party. Tomorrow will be busy baking
