I have skimmed the entire thread and I don't think anyone here is a narcissist or any of the other demeaning words that have been used. I think the simple truth is that there is a subset of the population that is just smarter. I don't say that in a nasty way.. it just is. I don't want to be able to look at the budget of my condo and know instantly that it is off and how to fix it when everyone else is just trying to figure out what it is.. I just do. When I say that with pride I shouldn't be called a narcissist. I don't want to see that marriage and (frankly) relationships at this point in time are a zero net gain for me. I just do. That doesn't make me a sociopath. I don't want to look at the state of the world today and see that most people are utter sheeple who are either unable or unwilling to think critically, I just do. I wish there was a message board for us or one place where we could gather and just talk freely for greater knowledge. In fact I find it a bit of a conspiracy that you really can't find such a message board out there. I used to hang out on a message board with people I thought I shared commonalities. But they were all emotional people and anytime I tried to have any sort of smart conversation they emoted their hysterics at me. I always had to keep my mouth shut and do what they wanted. No one wanted to critically examine anything or have any life view that wasn't vetted by some authority -- an authority I already considered a joke. Threads would be started about my profession and when I would come in with actual knowledge on things they wouldn't listen to me because it didn't fit with their emotional world view. I ended up putting a lot of that focus into my health and finances and both improved. I am tired of not being me and the best me that I can be because it is going to cause someone else hurt feelings or others are going to have to "bring me down" by calling me a name. If it means and it usually does that people aren't going to love me or get along with me or want to talk with me.. well, that is the price I need to pay. But I am done trading me for *pretend* friends who only tolerate me as long as I do what they want. |

Thanks for your words of wisdom. I am quite frankly, tired of people judging me because my brain is wired differently. I've had to deal with people treating me worse than **** my whole life because I'm different. Because I like computers, video games, and books more than people, I had to endure being abused and bullied most of my life for being "different". I'm not a bad person who goes out using and hurting people by any means, yet because I am a little bit cunning, prefer cold logic most of the time, and have had to do shady things just to survive (not that I wanted to but had no other way to survive since my mother didn't teach me the skills I needed to survive in the real world and I had no help), people sometimes think I'm some kind of sociopath. I don't have any desire or intention to hurt anybody. If anything, as I said in one of my earlier replies, I care about the majority of people too little to want to hurt them. Yes, wanting to hurt people requires one to care about said people enough to want to hurt them; I don't even have that level of care for the majority of people. I didn't choose to be this way either; I am the way I am because I had to endure such horrific abuse as a child that I was forced to become a bit of a heartless person to survive in the world. Anyways, the point of my ranting is to help educate those who might be observing this thread so they might realize that maybe having people who think differently than you isn't such a bad thing? After all, if there weren't people like me and the OP in this world, you wouldn't have smartphones, computers, internet, or even a car for that matter. /rant off |

That's an interesting point. I have heard that Steve Jobs was a jerk.
However, I have a higher IQ than a lot of people, and I don't think that means I am somehow better than them or that I can't care about them. I don't want to get married either, but I do like having friends. I guess if you don't want friends, there's nothing wrong with that. |

IDK who you were referring to but I never said I didn't want to have friends. I do want at least a few friends that can understand me without judging me. Unfortunately, finding people like that is borderline impossible in today's world. IDC about most people, not out of choice. I am like this because, like I said, enduring extensive childhood abuse and neglect flipped a switch in me somewhere that made me this way. I used to be a rather sensitive kid but I grew out of being kind and gentle. After all, people had their chance to show me the love and compassion and help me when I needed it the most. Where were they when I used to suffer and cry myself to sleep because I was so damn alone and afraid? Off enjoying their empty little lives. So yeah, I don't see why I should care about other people. I only care to some extent about people who have been through hell like I have or people that would show me compassion without judging me for being different. I see no reason to care about anybody else since they outright abandoned me when they could have helped me. |

I think we're talking about two different things here- caring little about others as well as thinking logically, liking science and books. That's absolutely cool and not a problem at all.
I think the reason a few people in this thread mentioned narcissism was that OP showed great joy of hurting others on purpose and being proud of it. That's the problem, not simply thinking differently or having trust issues.

I didn't think that was cool. But on the other hand it felt like a rebellion against the marriage paradigm that sort of keeps enslaving men and women to misery just so they can be married. I think a lot of smarter people see the foolishness of this and resent it. But I just avoid it altogether and don't go out of my way to play with people. So I would condemn that.

Also in almost any conversation I know that I'm simply smarter so obviously I should lead the conversation. I know only 2 people who I genuinely think are on my level.
Oh no- I'm ashamed to say this but I feel that way too..Does that make me a bad person?

I happened on a you tube clip of someone analyzing the differences between two comic book characters and, I was shocked, it helped me understand myself a little better. (bear with me) Tony Stark vrs Steve Rogers. Tony has always been the smartest person in the room. Over many years he has learned he cannot rely on others because they can never produce anything as good as him and thus he has learned he must do everything himself. He has few friends and doesn't trust many people because often, they disappoint him. Tony is often funny and flippant but it is mostly his way of trying to be relatable to others. Steve on the other hand comes from a place of helping others. He gives others implicit trust constantly and always feels that others do come through for him, no matter the situation or the reality. if people fail him he mostly brushes it off and ignores it. He is considered a leader and has many friends who are loyal to him because he is loyal to them no matter what - his loyalty to others will always be more important over having things done right. In his mind people will always rise to the occasion for him. Both of these kind of people are necessary to society. I absolutely see myself as Tony Stark. I have often expressed frustration that I am never the leader or the BFF in anything in my life even though I am smarter and SHOULD be the person who is the leader or the BFF. In any circumstance I am liked, in a way that Tony Stark is liked, but no matter my abilities, no one wants to follow me or be my BFF. I am tolerated likely because of my smarts and humor. I have one or two loyal friends. But if tomorrow I was able to give my whole hearted trust to people and just sit back and trusted them to rise to the occasion, I would be more popular. I just don't know how to do that. I need to have things done right and can't really allow other people to do a poor job. |

While I absolutely dont trust anyone, even my parents (for valid reasons) I do all I can to avoid showing it; and its quite normal I guess. Telling or showing lack of trust in others and in their intentions is in most cases useless and contra productive. Mind the difference between telling/showing vs having it deep inside. One of the examples of such persons is Joseph Stalin. I strongly recommend that anyone here studies his entire life from the moment he became an outlaw long before the commie revolution to the very last few days when he was unconscious after the stroke and what was happening around him at that time and why. This guy was a real master of being Steve AND Tony. When he was younger he was more Steve (was wearing the mask of Steve since he was Tony all along). That made him popular but not enough to lead the party and to be the ultimate dictator in history. After Lenin's death there were a few candidates to lead the party and Stalin was the unexpected winner. In the power struggle he was a manipulative intriguing Tony and much less Steve. During his reign and especially during his later years he was the ultimate Tony. Ultra paranoid, merciless, having his closest friends killed off in one wave of terror after another. While for the masses he was still being Steve. In fact the media was always portraying him as the ultimate Steve and the audience was mostly buying into it and those who werent, they ended up digging holes in permafrost of Siberia. His life and his path to success is quite remarkable in every sense of the word. Quote:

Im not saying that every inventor/innovator is always an asshole, of course not, but in Job's example it was a relevant part of him. Its that same attitude that kept inspiring Apple's engineers. Its those character traits that turned new product presentations into shows which the entire Wall Street had to stream live or they would miss out. Take a look at Musk. Turbulent childhood and whatnot. When I look at him and hear him talk I wonder just how f@@@ed up he is in reality. And obviously he cant allow himself to be "himself" in public. But either way: its lack of limitations and "why not?" attitude that helped establish many highly innovative companies from PayPal (biiiig personal thanks from me Elon, especially for those early years of PP lol) to Tesla Last edited by Inaccurate; Jan 09, 2019 at 10:02 AM. |

I certainly need to learn this as well. The more I think, the more I realize that my quality of life would greatly improve if I stop being a social shutout and stop avoiding and getting easily frustrated with people and start learning how to better adapt to social situations, wearing better masks, and building up my charisma. I think I can learn a lot by monitoring this thread ![]() |

It doesnt work this way though and neither should it. You only deserve something when you have done enough effort to obtain it. There are ways to take nearly anything you want. In fact you can be a billionaire in a year or so. There are ways to achieve that and you know it. Nobody will ever bring you something that you think you "deserve" on a silver plate. At least without you telling them to do that lol... its "how" to tell it which is the skill. And the better you master the skill the more control you will have over others. The more control you have other others - the more popular you become and the more attention and adulation that you get, together with more power. |

The quote "n00bs hack computers, pros hack people" comes to mind when I read this thread.
I have always had a high level of tech knowledge. I could become a millionaire within the next year or two just off my tech knowledge alone without involving people in my life at all (in fact, I have a plan in motion to do just that). Yet, when talking in technical terms, the weakest link of any network is ALWAYS the people. What is the easiest way to breach the security of a large corporate or government network? Social engineering or "people hacking" if you will. People are so stupid, they will believe just about anything. Ask the right questions, and they will gladly give out their passwords. Once I master the art of social engineering, I will be practically a god ![]() |
