I would like to hear from all sorts on this one. I'm a white male and I often have these thoughts, particularly lately.

a black friend told me that black people
are more intelligent than white people,
and that black people own the streets.

a mixed race friend told me that ,
white man will swindel the blackman,
but blackman will beat whiteman in a fight

these are not my views,

Is this one of the "why there can't be white straight pride movement" type of argument?

I was about to joke that yes, I am so white that I instaburn in the sun and cannot find the right make-up foundation because most companies don't have "vampire" tone in their selection... but eh.

No race is inferior.

No, it's about finding out and discussing the insecurities we may feel about our race, gender.

Race is the wrong term; we are all part of the human race but come from different ethnic backgrounds.

I would love to be darker, like my fiancee; she's the color of dark chocolate and just as tasty. Especially as the world heats up, darker-skinned people will fare better so there is a practical concern as well. It's funny, in the Philippines now, whitening agents are all the rage, go figure.

To fully answer your question, I do think I have a bit of the white man's guilt but its not a feeling of inferiority.

You know, something I learned once upon a time defines my feeling on this subject. We are all just shades of brown. I teach my students this and we discuss the beautiful shades of brown that each of us brings to the world. I love what all ethnicities contribute, and we are so fortunate to live now when we can easily research or meet people through a computer.

White female here - I don't give much thought to either race or gender, actually. I'm too busy straightening myself out as a human being.

Ya, I made the mistake of taking a Women's Studies class.

If we take a global perspective yes, I am part of an 'inferior gender', stemming from patriarchy and gendered institutions. Let's look at infanticide in India and China, there's an obvious preference of gender. The women in these societies (especially in rural areas) are devalued.

You realize that women are more likely than men to be impoverished in the U.S. And that 30% of people in poverty are actually children.

I don't really care if it's biological or socially instilled into children, just kind of sucks that there's a good chance I'll be living around the poverty line if I don't get married, especially if I have children.

I don't worry or think there is inequality... I know there is inequality. In a 'melting pot/mulitcultural' society equality means assimilation. Ethnic cultures in these societies are reduced to entertainment within a white dominated culture.

Women still receive less pay, are passed over for promotion (god forbit they should get pregnant), are subject to 'jokes' and harrassment, are judged by appearance etc etc.

I don't feel or believe I am inferior but the dominant culture tries to tell me I am for one reason or another.

Pros and cons to everything. I don't bother spending time wondering if anyone's race/ethnicity/gender is inferior/superior, I've never thought of any of these things actually mean anything beyond "you are more at risk for these diseases". Perhaps that's part of why double standards irritate me so much....

I'm technically native american. I look as "white" as can be. Freckles pale skin and all. But most of my blood is native blood. My mother and my father... Beautiful tans from their native side but me not so much. My daughter has their skin. Everyone thinks she's mixed but really myself as well as her father are the two palest people you will see.

I don't feel insecure because of my race or being a female at all, in fact I believe that being a female gives me an advantage. People are much more willing to help me being a female single mom. As far as my race goes, the only time I feel that other races seem to be superior to mine is when I'm standing in line at the government assistance center. It sounds stereotypical but in my town, it's true.

Hi Feiticeira, I've got a son, and I'm living on the poverty line. But the poverty line in this country isn't nearly as bad as it is in other countries. I eat most days, and when I don't it's by choice, my son gets three meals a day, has shoes, clothing, can afford books. We do quite well despite everything. I don't know what it's like in the US, but in the UK it is possible to survive on the poverty line. It can be pretty tough, but it is doable.

I'm surviving on the poverty line and it's rough. I make 8 an hour and work 40 hours a week. I bring in about 950 on my paychecks a month and my rent alone is 600. Day care (and no government assistance for this) is 600 a month as well. Then you have bills, food, (luckily my license is suspended so I don't have car expenses... Glass half full) I have a 3 year old that eats 3 times a day and then has about 3-4 snacks a day. I don't get help with food either. Luckily I was smart enough to get enough child support for the help during my divorce, many moms are not so lucky. I just barely make it on 1,550 a month. But I do it and I somehow manage to find ways to constantly buy my little girl toys and things, she wont suffer because of me. I sacrifice a lot, never buying shaving items, going long times without things I need, but it's worth it to me. Seeing my little girl happy and making sure she's taken care of makes everyone alright... Go to school finish colege and you wont be in the poverty line. I've realized that but I guess I'm too distracted to go back right now... Too many hallucinations and such atm...

This is a very true statement. I have all sorts of "body issues" that I dont' want my daughters to have. Unfortunately, I believe I have probably passed it to them, unwittingly, by putting myself down and saying things like, "I wish I looked like that" or "I feel so fat", etc.

As far as equal pay for equal work....I've never seen that more obvious than at my current job. My boss has a MASTERS degree in accounting and she makes barely over $20.00/hr. We hired a part-time intern who just got his bachelors degree in engineering (he's about 22) and he makes close to $10/hr more than she does. All of the women in my office are VERY smart and very good at what they do. But this is a male dominated industry and so the "lowly office girl" will never earn as much as these Project Managers, Auto-Cad guys, or any other male.
Funny thing is, if all the women in my office quit. That company would be up ***** creek.
Thanks for this!

I too, never considered it in those terms. "Inferior vs. Superior" until I began working at this job that I've had for the past 5 years. I still don't look at things taht way, but I was surprised to learn that other people do. I've always heard of the "glass ceiling" but I never really believed it until now.

I often worry about male inferiority and i also think that our issues in terms of gender gaps aren't acknowledged as much. But I've stopped thinking about that a bit today and I feel better. I wish I didn't have these thoughts, they make me depressed.

There's alot in society that needs to be fixed, that's for sure. The pendulum will continue to swing back and forth, but each time it won't swing as far. Perhaps someday it will finally stop...

Interesting comment, I have one question though. Are you saying males as a whole are inferior to women, or you feel inferior as a man? (emphasis on feel, not intended to offend)

There are definitely pro's and con's to being either gender, like for instance women are more likely to get custody of their children after a divorce. And because the E.R.A. hasn't passed women won't ever be drafted.

Possible trigger!!! But if a women is a victim of sexual assault and wants to report the crime her character is likely to be put on trial and it's the only crime that a victim is blamed and thus feels guilty for their own victimization. Kinda explains why this is the most under-reported crime.

I just feel like there are some systematic disadvantages to being a women.

A big disadvantage men have is due to the negative reinforcement they get from other males. And I have to admit that I'd rather be a women than deal with what men have to deal with and the stigma of being a 'feminine-like' male.

An interesting article about valued traits being associated with men that could/should be associated with being a human being. http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/~rjensen/fr...ineorhuman.htm

Yes, I do fear the white race is inferior. As technology has progressed we have
rewarded isolation from nature with survival and success; yet when the powers that
be return, those who have been cut off from the protective (and crippling) effect of
the cocoon of technology, those who have been 'backwards' we be proven to
be more fit for survival... even perfected for survival in a technology
scarce world.
There will still be the need, like ancients found the need for one shaman, for
a geek in the clan so that someone can hotwire a satillite connection and
find resources and other clans with resources. For the most part mixed marital
arts, cooking a deer and hunting will be the ways of survival
Environment has always chosen who will survival, but we have upset
that balance by making our own environment for a long time.
All good things come to an end, as do bad things also.
