For you that dont know me...I have panic disorder...And need klonoppin and prozac for it...but I have a med phobia...

Well , I went to the doctor...And it wasnt good...
He said he doesnt want to see me anymore...cause I'm not taking the meds...( I saw him plenty of times before )

I asked him if I could get admitted so I would feel safer taking them ( with nurses and stuff around me all day) and he said " do you have $30,000? no insurance company will pay for that, and I wont admit you, and I cant cause They wont take you in for that..."

Then he said " this is the last time Were gonna meet...we have 5 more min" Then I just walked out ...

So, now I dont know what to do...I'm helpless...

Now that, folks, is the very wrong way for a p-doc to handle that type of situation... At least in my humble opinion.

*hugs Non tight*

I'm very sorry you had to go through that today. Hopefully, this will be a blessing in disguise as in getting rid of an obvious bad doctor to make room for one who will take the time to do their job properly.

(((hugs)))

I understand the position you put your doctor in. You just have to step up to the plate for your own good and take those meds. Once you begin taking them on a regular schedule, they will be easier to take, less panic etc. This won't be easy, but it is doable, and you just have to do it. I'm sure you push through other things, yes? I'm sending you strong energy to do good self care... You see, there's no reason for the doctor and the pills if you won't take them like you need to. You tied the doctor's hands, so to speak, imo.

You may need to change your routine, as this one isn't helping you. Do you feel better taking the meds when there's someone around? What if you take your meds in front of your doctor, would that help your doctor take you back and help you feel better about taking them? Call the Doctor and "untie" his hands; he wants to help you. Don't refuse his help, ok?

I agree with what Sky has said. A doctor cannot help a patient who is unwilling to help him/herself. It does sound like the doc is willing to help if you can work with him. He is probably frustrated with the situation.

Do you know why you have a med phobia? What about taking the meds frightens you?

you may find it really hard to help yourself, but if you don't.....who is going to? we all have to take meds, at one time or another, and it's grit your teeth and try them.....

i don't know of any regular pmeds that would require hospital supervision anyway. are you going to be taking something extraordinary?

The others have said it all . . . you must cooperate for your p doc to help you.

Why are you afraid to take your meds alone? Are you afraid that you will forget you already took them and take them again later, so that you take too much? Or do you forget days?

There are ways to set up the meds in a pill box with compartments that can be labelled Monday-Tuesday etc. Then you can see whether you have taken the pills in a compartment. Perhaps you need to work out some way to take them that will help you to feel safer.

Do you have a therapist? Sometimes such a counselor can help you work through this and find a solution.

I certainly differ about this -- if you mean psychotropic meds. They never did me any good.

Have you talked with your Dr. and asked what results you can expect from your meds? As the others have said, you won't get better without them.

Do you have family or friends you can be with when you take your meds? Perhaps that would help.

I wish you the very best,

January

Wow, I certainly understand fearing how a med might cause you to react, but it's something you just have to keep trying until you have tried "everything." IMO. I have medicinal reactions, some quite severe, others are adverse reactions that I can put up with for a while.

I used to go into hospital to try a new med, the reactions were so swift and severe. And IMO that is a good use of a psych ward: to help get you stablized on medication. (They can dose you, keep your intake consistent, and help you with any ill feelings about it or from it, and keep you safe in the meantime.)

Have you spoken to your doctor again asking what options you really have on this? I think you should. TC ((hugs))

Hi there,
I may have a solution for you. I work in a hospital and we sometimes have our panic disordered patients just come sit and hang out in in the lobby if they feel a panic attack might be coming on.

Perhaps you would be more comfortable taking a good book (and your meds) to your local emergency department and hanging out there until you know what your meds will feel like to you. Knowing all those good nurses and docs are just a room away, it should make you feel very safe!

You might even take a good friend along and have lunch in the hospital cafeteria, shop in the gift shop and make a day of it!

Another thing some patients feel better about is cutting their pill in half (Klonopin is scored) and seeing what just half the dose feels like and then working up to your full dose from there.

Lastly, I can almost guarantee that your Klonopin is going to make you feel tons better, if you take it!! My doctor visit today...
Good luck!
Okie

Noncomposmentis8,
What a very unprofessional thing that your doctor did to you. Saying “Do you have $30,000” because you're very concern about the possible side effects from the medication just shows the doctor his arrogance.

This is the reason why I don't bother seeing psychiatrists anymore because they always seem to have something smart to say when it comes to your general health. They also think that the only treatment to “cure” our “mental problems” is by medications and by medications only.

Noncomposmentis said that he had a bad experience with medications last year and now hes afraid to take them. This is a perfectly normal situation here. His doctor should of have showed him some compassion to what hes been through and to NOT give up on him simply because he's not taking the medication. I find it hilarious to see psychiatry claiming that their mental health experts, YET fail to understand the concept of FEAR.

Just for instincts. I had a very bad experience inside of a psychiatric hospital where I was almost raped. Now I'm afraid to go back to the hospital. I got burnt and I'm not going to be burnt again, simply as that My doctor visit today...

The moral of this is that normal people will NOT retouch the red hot stove once they get burnt. It's just the part of being a human.

Noncomposmentis I think about you every day.. You just need to find a better doctor, or better yet go to a therapist. Medications should be the last option as far as treatment goes.

okiedokie, I like your picture. It is so small that I find it hard to tell what the cat is doing -- listening to music? Anyway, I like the cat; my two cats are probably my best friends.
