I just talked to my landlord about having a pet and he said I'd have to pay a pet deposit of $100. I don't have that kind of money laying around and this stray cat has won my heart. I have named him Tyger and he is the sweetest thing. He loves to be carried around and loved on. I tried him in the house last night to sleep with me and he did good until about 1:00 and then he got up to play and I said nope and out he went. He has been inside since about 11:00 and so he's gonna have to go outside again soon since I don't have a litter box for him and I've fed him a couple of times. So HELP!!! How can I raise the money to be able to keep Tyger?

I would look around and find something(s) I could sell on eBay or ask to borrow money from friends with an idea of how you could pay it back over time.

Have you anyone you could ask for cat "stuff" of for Christmas? One of the things you could ask for is "money" toward the deposit fee.

Any mothers around where you live that would like some after school care or babysitting so they can go out and shop? Anything you could "trade" your landlord for, secretarial services of some kind?

jbuggie hon if you let him stay outside at night and just feed him he will keep coming around. that way you can just say the cat is a stray and not have to pay that deposit. it sounds like he is pretty much an outside cat anyway. my cat loves to play at night for some reason but she has been raised inside. does this look like a kitten or full grown?

Cats are nocturnal so often like the night. Mine "sleep" like usual but if I get up to pee they're right there looking at me, hoping I'll do some tricks for them HELP!! I need help raising some money.

if you leave the cat outside that totally defeats the purpose of having the stray. he is probably not neutered and if you leave him out every night who knows how many other little stray kittens he could be producing. also, stray cats are one of the biggest reasons for the decline in the song bird population. not to mention that feral cats left outside usually dont live longer than about 2-5 years tops. feral cats are a HUGE problem in the U.S. so if youre going to take him, take him now. Humane societies euthanize at least 2 millions cats and dogs every year. If you leave him outside, nothing good can come from that unless you neuter him first and give him all his shots. Please seriously think about that, I hate seeing people leave their cats outside because of how many problems stem from feral cats outside.

jbug, do you have a therapist? Why not have him/her write a letter of support for an emotional support animal? That would protect you under the ADA I think, and not require the fee.

Good wishes!

Any chance the landlord will let you split the deposit over a couple months? When I moved my place split my pet deposit so I wouldn't be bombarded with the cost. Mine was 250, so 100 definitely isn't bad. If he'd let you split it, could you manage it then?

Tyger has been fixed he can't produce anymore little Tygers. He used to be someone in the complex's pet and they gave him away well the people that they gave him to brought him back and the people that had him first won't let him back in the apartment. So me having the big sappy heart I do fell in love with him and I want to keep him.

I am thinking about asking the landlord if I could work off the $100. Now that I'm out of school I have the time.

I do believe Sky is right. There are laws that apply for "therapy" animals and if your doc agrees it would be good therapy for you then the landlord has no choice but to waive the fee.

Good luck jbug! Enjoy Tyger HELP!! I need help raising some money.

thats good that hes already neutered. that takes away like 3/4 of the concerns about leaving him outside. i agree with the others in talking to your therapist about it because its a well known fact that having a pet decreases your chance of heart attack and other illness and increases your life span. good luck with your landlord. you never know, they might be very understanding. or you can just do what we did and not tell them lol i wouldnt advise that though.

I found out tonight that he will not potty in the house. We (meaning my friend Michelle and I) were watching T.V. and Tyger went to the door and sat there and looked at it and looked at us then at the door and us and the door like stupid I need to go out. So I let him out then he did what he had to do and came back to the window and he's back in. I will post pics tomorrow of what he looks like so you can see what a sweetie he is.

Indoor/outdoor cat; that's fine. My first cat was that, I found him on the parking lot of my apartment development (before the days when you always needed pet deposits :-) They don't need to "go" that often. I'd still keep a litter box inside in case (after you determine whether it was ever trained by its mother to use the litter box) but I only had to change my cat's litterbox once every few months! Of course, it was down in the basement. . .

I like waiting a few months, seeing what develops (how often he wants to be in), saving up a bit of money and if someone complains or the landlord notices then give him all the money you've saved at that time (at least $25-$50) and set up a payment plan with him to pay the rest? It won't hurt to have a "cat fund" anyway, to help in case you want to take him to the vets, etc.

Tyger is outside right now. He asked to go outside about 11 last night and hasn't come home yet HELP!! I need help raising some money.. I am sure he will make his way back but I miss him. My neighbor 2 doors down said he came in to his place when I let him out but he was being to agressive so he let him out and he thought he saw him in someone else's apartment when he went out on his late night walk. I said if he wasn't back by the time I got back from lunch from with mom and dad I'd go looking for him and Charles said he thought he knew where he was and he'd go ask for me. I keep calling and shaking his food but he always makes his way back here eventually but I'm thinking I want him in now all the time.

I just posted a pic in my picture gallery of Tyger so you can see how cute the little bugger is.

Right now he's sleeping behind me on my bed but we napped together in the living room this afternoon. HELP!! I need help raising some money.

We've been taking care of a stray dog, a jack russel female...excellent dog. It's the first dog I've ever seen my husband take too. Anyway, we let her in at night since it's winter and we feed her whenever. Then we let her out to roam the complex. The entire apartment complex chips in to care for her, she's such a sweetheart. We can't be charged pet deposits if in actuality it's not ours...but the neighborhoods. If I were you I'd just give it the care it needs and let it in when it's very bad outside. Outside cats usually know to go potty outside, but watch it. Hope all goes well.

I plan on calling the owner and asking him if he'd let me pay an extra $20 a month til I get the $100 paid. Tyger is too cute to put back out in the cold.

I just got off the phone with my landlord and he agreed to take the deposit in $20 installments along with my monthly rent until I get the deposit paid off.

Thanks for that idea guys!!
