of course there is another side to this debate

for those of you owning stock in said oil companies (like myself) you are offsetting the high gas prices by the gains you make each month on your stocks....

now I know that doesnt answer the question and yes gas prices are high, but global demand will only continue to increase and with demand comes price increases...

say goodbye to 2-3 dollar a gallon gasoline folks

That's why a couple of my kids and I are gonna start a blood family commune and raise our own food, dream up our own entertainment etc. I might even home-school the grandkids. Good-bye world! Let's try to bring down gasoline prices!! NOT! Let's try to bring down gasoline prices!! We ARE raising our own food, though!

this is an assumption imo.. a prediction, a surmise, an apparent trend.... but, IF theres a will.....

assuming the worst is one way to fall into its trap... as a global whole, people have quite a bit of influence...

already there are organizations educating consumer about their buying power... a simple search on the web would provide interested individuals with more info about their untapped ability to control the market... so far, it seems products which enhance our lives are very popular... we might ask ourselves at times if such products are totally necessary...
making wise and informed decisions can send signals to marketers of which products we prefer... this is something simple we could all begin today IF we so chose to....

i dont mean to sound preachy... not something i aspire to, but, i just hope we can all try in good faith and spirit ... to do something.... or, we can wait for someone else to fix it.....

thanks for allowing my words...

a lot of reasons why high gasoline prices and i m going to list the top two

1.we are experiencing a world of high ratio of inflation and high gold price(so to some extent its not the high gasoline prices but the US dollars are just going down)

2.those gas exporting countries decided not to increase the supply to bring down the prices in an early time last year cause they thought a sudden drop in price would result in some uneven movement in the globe markets.(since greedy traders they are.)

yeah, ride a bike if you can ,just like me lol, for saving money and for your health.

Here iin the UK we have to pay up to £130 per litre!!!!Thats roughly $260 horses i would gladly go with .... but it's illigal to ride on a motorway and us horse riders get nothing but a hard time of folk because of the POOP on the road Let's try to bring down gasoline prices!! i'n darned sure poop doesn't affect the environment like gas.

In an ideal world horses would do great to make a comeback .... but it aint never gonna happen ..... public transport should be made much cheaper, we pay a fortune over here to go 7miles into the city. The world has gone mad.

just my stupid *** thoughts

people are already having to quit their jobs because they can't afford the gas to go. I think we are in pretty bad shape right now. alot of people have already cut back on their driving. there were far less people on the roads this past holiday due to the high prices. food is going up as a result. so is everything else because of transportation cost. truckers are losing their trucks because they can't pay for fuel. think about it folks. we are in trouble here.

i dont think you're completely wrong there Jinny... i just think that since the lesson is looming, we should first ensure our survival in some way... i'm sorry for a preach thing again here, but, if we use our energy and precious time dragging guilty people out and punishing them, in the meantime, the situation worsens.. we should all just move past who's at fault, and begin to do things the correct way.... the way which nourishes our world, doesnt kill it..... we can do this if we try.......... if we dont.... not a very cool looking alternative... just my two...

Inan ideal world that is a great idea .... people are already trying, but so much damage has been done more people need to listen ..... like you say no good punishing what's already been done .... it would be like locking the door after the horse has bolted.

It's trying to get those people to listen though .... and that is a tough task ... we the people are trying, it's the powers that be who need to do the listening imo

we can always speak more i spose Jinny, let 'em know... gotta let 'em know.....

we cant ever get ideals maybe, but some try for them thankfully.....

getting people to listen is important, you are very right about that

people are busy, tired, stressed, and who can blame them?

it is becming a matter of great importance to us all however...

thank you for supporting the no blaming aspect... time is really precious now...

Ok, here's my spin on it.

I don't think we have much power to change the oil industry, at least not quickly enough to make a difference within the next few years. But what I see coming down the pike is that we all have to change our lifestyles, even if just a little bit.

Imagine the population of folks (like myself) who are overweight and eat too much junkfood or fastfood or are just too lazy to walk down to the corner market to buy a gallon of milk (which by the way is pretty dang expensive these days too). Given the price of oil/gas, we all decide to take that walk instead of getting in our car and driving....wow, excercise.....less gas usage = loosing weight/being healthier! Hmmm, something to think about?

Bringing the demand for gas down/exercising/healthier lifestyle/less demand for medication and hospitalization/lower insurance costs/more people having their own gardens/less auto accidents due to less cars on the roads/removing ourselves from the "bigger is better" and "more is better" train of thought in vehicles etc./ a slowing down of the rat race pace we now live/less stress/back to basics. Do ya get my drift here???

This won't happen overnight....people will fight tooth and nail to keep the status quo....but hey, something has got to give here pretty soon, why not start thinking about the good things that can come from this situation? I don't think it's really all doom and gloom folks Let's try to bring down gasoline prices!!

I agree we all have to do a lifestyle change. crime is also going up due to the gas prices. people drilling holes in gas tanks to steal it. what a shame! did any of you happen to hear the profit oil companies made last year? is there really a reason for it to be as high as it is? no way! not when a single company post profits of billions of dollars. the rich get richer the poor get poorer.

There is a lot of money being made in the processing of oil all the way around. It is not the greedy oil company making the most. That being said, I don't plan on making any lifestyle changes. I will still travel and spend like I always have. I don't eat fast food or at restaurants. I buy local organic products and I ride a bicycle for pleasure and exercize not for transportation.

I have no plans to give up my RV or my F150 4X4 gas guzzeler. I commute in a car that gets 38mpg. I have managable debt and I refuse to participate in the doom and gloom that permiates our country. I have lived this way for years and don't need to make adjustments for economic reasons. The problem is so many people carry such hugh debt and live on the edge that when hard times come they don't know how to adjust.

I was homeless twice in my life and I had a wife and 2 kids at the time. We lived in the car on a campground and in a dinky motel room during those times but, we made it by pure determination and unfaltering hope that things will get better. It is easy to say things will get better when you are at the bottom. Everytime something bad happened I said, well, now we have nowhere to go but up. So, up we went, it was a struggle but we did it and then I determined that it would never happen again.

I got a good job, I can't stand it sometimes but it is a good one. I learned to live on less than I made. I learned to put some away for another day. I drove cars until they went to the junk yard. Still do. I planned for the unexpected.

Today, I don't like the high prices of gas, food, and any other activity in my daily life as well as utilities and property taxes. I learned to invest my money on a regular basis in established companies and in energy. I stash every extra dollar in my retirement fund. I don't live like a pauper but, I can tell you this, I don't go to movies, or buy DVD's, I use the library instead of buying books. I buy in bulk and plan meals. I don't own fancy furniture or designer clothes and shoes.
I work 2 jobs at 55 hour per week total. I am saying this to let some know that ther eis still hope, we live in the greatest country in the world, IMO and the opportunities are endless. Don't fall into the hopelessness that is all around us. There is hope and it comes when you believe it.

Thanks for letting me rant,

Eric

In addition, why don't we all send off an email to our congressmen urging them to push harder for alternative energy solutions. Let's get off oil.

Unfortunatly our politicians are more interested in theatrics on CNN and cosmetics (Ethanol aka Corn Liquor) than actually solving this problem. In the end it is the marketplace that will have to innovate, economic power is a far greater force than political power, voting with the dollars matters the most. One reason I support Honda and Toyota as companies is because they have invested the most in fuel efficient Hybrid Cars, and alternatives such as Hydrogen Fuel cells. I also patronize busineses that specifically puchase "green" energy and recycle as much as possible.

The energy issue has no quick fixes. We as entire society are going to have to pull together to push for new technology and end to fossil fuel dependence.

We must prepare to restructure everything we do and everything we are to [prepare for the world our children will face. Energy independce would be one of several steps we must take to ensure our survival as a civilization. There are others as well, but it would be too controversial for this post to go into that.

Many people think all that happens is divine intervention, so the price must be where it's supposed to be. Let's try to bring down gasoline prices!! Let's try to bring down gasoline prices!!

I have been thinking today about returning to riding the bus. I just was able to afford a car again last summer after 4 years of walking and riding the bus. The walking was good for me and I enjoyed it and I miss it, although walking in tropical storm weather wasn't any fun. For$45 I can buy a bus pass that's good for unlimited riding for 31 days, beginning the day you first use it. I would actually get out more than I do now because I used to get out and ride the bus just to spend some time at the bookstore or to take a walk along the harbor. I am giving it serious thought and so far it sounds like a win/win deal. I will still have the car to go places the bus doesn't go (like therapy--which used to take me hours to get to and from) and for getting around in rainy weather.

Honda sponsors a solar car contest in Australia every year, the technology is a long ways off but may one day be workable.
