As a child I saw animals slautered in often horrid ways. More horrid was that they were my friends.

I have many critters and with that comes inevitable loss and euthanasia. I am living quite poorly since I do not work now. I had a 20 year old cat who has recently become incontinent and cancer on her face, skin and bones. Many country folk here would have done the deed for me but with a lot of viplence.

So quite by accident I found that starter fluid has ether in it and I was preparing to take care of kitty tonight. My husband did it. It was peaceful and he held her and just put her under and suffocated her. I am glad that he could do that. He never used to be able, I have been the one to go to the vets for euthanasia. Thing is they charge a fortune and if we have to spend money it's best spent on the living. She had a good life and I know she didn't suffer fear or trauma in her death. I need to hold onto that please as old stories like to run their tapes in my head at times like this.

(((((WW)))))) I know how hard it is to see your best freind go, I had a Kitty for 15 years, he held me during horrible times and when he was gone I really suffered. I pray to God that he may be in a animals heaven so someday I can see him again, I know it sounds way too much, but those feeling are strong.
You did it the right way, ~hugs to you hon~

First of all I will tell you all that it still feels weird to get compassion with the death of an animal, I saw and experiemced way too much. So I am really letting it soak in, thank you.

Secondly is a thought I had about animals being frightened when they are brought to the vet for euthanasia. We used to have a nice farm vet that would do it for me here if I asked but he is gone. And of course to have a farm vet you need farm animals and all we have now are the goats. I found myself wishing that it were easier for me to have access to the chemicals to humanely euthanize animals who are suffering. I do not anticipate anything coming up, that thought scares me to death but if it does I want to be able to handle it at home in a loving hospice kinda way. I even dreamed I was giving an animal oral liguid morphine as they were dying. I guess it's on my mind.

I kept expecting kitty to be found gone but she hung on so much. It was a conversation with a friend of mine who is an absolute nut about her kitties that made me see what had to be done. I saw when her cat had to go but she could not and vice-versa.

Why do parrots and turtles live so long and our pets only a small fraction of our lives?

Well, I have seven puppies to see to and find the very best homes for so I will move onto life. They are so beautiful and if someone wants to help me post them I have pics, thanks.

Did you say you have a purebred yellow lab???? huh huh huh??

WW, I talked with my T about this (putting the cat down) ... since my service dog is having such tough nites... while it's something I wish I could do for my dog, I just don't know. I admire your all's strength for the kitty in need.

Dad is a pure bread yellow lab. My oldest daughter brought him home and he had been neglected, alone too much basically, no manners. He was 18 months. Anyway after he helped to make the mistake we got him fixed and daughter started not paying any attention to him so he went to a new home where he sleeps in the bed with the husband and wife, not the nine year old as I had planned.

Puppies are golden doodle and yellow lab.

I hope that your dog has a peaceful passing when the time comes and when the pics of the puppies get here you can see how cute they are. Candy is posting them for me. I would be honored to have you take one of my babies as a service dog.

WW, I just want to say that I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I know that it's hard to let go, especially when you are sensitive and appreciate the individuality of your animals.

Those puppies must be adorable! I'm not sure what a golden doodle looks like, but I can't wait to see your pictures when you get them posted.

Love,
Rap

(((((wisewoman))))) I understand so much, all of it. I had to have my "pets" slaughtered, after I had taken care of them and became friends. It still bothers me. We currently have a dog who may need to be put down soon. I just don't know how to tell when it is right.
When my deceased kitty was very sick, I needed to get him through the day, couldn't go in til my hubby got home. I asked the vet about giving him some of my Xanax to make him suffer less. They ok'd it and by the time I brought him in he was almost gone, so it was very peaceful.
Take care!

PS. just love the puppy pics

Thank you both. My husband was talking with me about putting human feelings and traits on animals and I told him that to some extent we do that but animals are very aware of what you are communicating and how you are feeling. Animals have the ability to love unconditionally. They have the capcity to make you crazy eating cat candy or trash hunting. They also tellyou who they are and what they need. It is hard to know when is right to euthanize, that's why I speak with friends and ask the animal. I still have such a sense of resonsibility and grief for the animals I have had euthanized. But,it is so much better then a life of suffering.

Ya, my puppies are cute, only two females to go. They are so funny.

"anthrophomorphism" and yes, we do that all the time (humans do)

compl...I have decided to try and wait for my dog to tell me when it's time. Maybe when he no longer enjoys rolling in the grass or begging with tailwagging for a treat? IDK... I just don't know.
