Does anyone know of some vitamins or herbal supplements that can be good mood stabilizers or reduce anxiety? As some of you know I have no insurance right now and would really like to beable to do something naturally until it is worked out.
I tried St Johns Wort but there is a warning on the label that says it can interfere with my birth control. I stopped taking it because that is a bad idea to mess with it. Any thoughts?

I'm from the old school that cures just about everything with tea.

To calm me down I drink Abango, Chamollile, or sleeping tea for children, you can find it at Walmart. By the way, it doesn't put me to sleep.

For mestrual crams I drink Oregano tea

There is all kinds of cures with tea, you just have to know which one to drink for what you need.

I hope it helps.

There are alot of them out there, but you gotta be careful with some of them because they can actually do more harm then good. I know that there was a big to do about St. Johns Wort.... interacting badly with something.. cannot remember what it is.

You should ask your doctor or pharmicist about them. IF you are on medication be careful, you don't know how the herbals will react to your medication.

I wont take herbals personally, i've read up on more negative things then postive... mainly with St. johns wort and a couple of others.

Lavender helps sooth, camillie is good.

I'm sure there are some good herbals out there.. but just do some research before doing them though.

I don't want to sound like i'm nagging. I'm sure herbals help people, but just gotta be careful about interaction with food, meds, different pills.

ok now i'm babbling going to shut up now..

Oregano tea for cramps really?

I know ginger tea helps with nausea, so does ginger root capsules....

They are actually saying that gravol is not that good for you anymore.... That is why I stick with ginger.

There was something else that I have been thinking about looking into out of the herbals, but now I cannot remember it for the life of me. Something natural

Jessica,
Did you know that birth control is know for causing depression. Also the insert states specifically if you have leg cramps to call your doctor. This is a sign of a clot which could result in other problems. It could also be a vitamin (potassium) deficiency that can be helped by eating bananas or using Norton's low salt. Ask your dr. about the bc, you could be having issues with it. Do you smoke? Smokers are urged not to use bc because of the risk of heart problems. This risk increases tremendously with the use of cigarettes.

Good Luck!

Meachie,
I had heard that birth control could cause depression. Unfortunately I am allergic to latex of all things so my options are kinda limited. I try to keep up on the reports and health effects of birth control since I have been on it for so long almost 6 years now I think. However I also realize that all meds have some sort of side effects.
I do smoke (I know it is bad) but I am looking into quitting and I go yearly to my gyno for a check up to make sure that I am alright. I am supposedly a very healthly reproducing woman. However I will keep your suggestions in mind.

I am on birth control too. I really wish they could come out with something that has less side effects. I think it effects my libido among other things. I am going to the dr. on Friday and am going to ask if something else may be better for me. They do have new things coming out all the time. My friend tried just that stick on thing. If I were you I would make sure your doctor is aware of your anxiety and leg cramps.

I drink chamomile tea to calm down. Bigellow makes sleepy time tea which is pretty yummy with a bit of honey. Also when I have trouble sleeping I take benadryl.

Meachie,
Oh I understand now. You thought I was having leg cramps..I meant menstual cramps. If I was having leg cramps I would definately be worried!! I thought that is what she meant with the Oregano tea. I was on Benadryl to help reduce anxiety and it always made me sleep so I guess I can try that again.
Birth control affects so many people in different ways. I really did not have too many side effects like weight gain and spotting but the birth control patch made me crazy. I put on 30 pounds in one month when I started it and I felt really moody all the time. There are so many different kinds of the pill though. If you do not like the one you are on keep trying. Ortho Tricyclan has a new low hormone dose out that is suppose to be really good. Maybe that would work for you.

Oh ! I'm with you. Herbs are good but you have to be carefull, not only about what you say but also about allergic reactions.

By the way, I don't like St. Johns, natural syrups or any pill like herbs. When I use herbs, I use the actual herb (not something that comes un a bottle or bag, or capsle) and I cook it myself. I know there is no chemicals that way, or anything poluting the herb.

But you are right, people need to be carefull.
