No, not yet. The psych ward doesn't have patient telephones. She hasn't signed HIPAA releases for anyone, so we can't talk to anyone on her behalf, either. So frustrating.

No patient telephones? Did she sign Hippa for anyone? At least she survived and I'll pray that she gets the help she needs, I know how hard something like this is to survive on the person and the family.
Thanks for this!

I suppose I should get off the couch and do something.. On the other hand, I am on vacation, so really.. Would it be soooo bad if I spend a day being completley unproductive?

Isn't that the whole reason for vacations? To not be productive?

Watch bad daytime TV, read a book, take a nap, eat jelly beans, do whatever strikes your fancy!

Batch of cinnamon doughnut muffins in the oven. Contemplating making the cinnamon roll pancakes also. Because the muffins are taking too darn long and I have to let them cool before putting on the butter, sugar, cinnamon topping. huuuuuuunnnnnnngry!

Well, I haven't been very unproductive.. I have been e-mail academic advisors at my school to help me figure out how fisable a change of major would be at this time.

I love baking. It really helps me when I'm down.

I should also be productive, but I left the draft of my brief in the truck and I do not feel like going out in these conditions to get it. My son wants to sled ride later and going out in this feels like it would be torture.

So quick question for the couch lawyers...do you guys have any idea how absolutely terrifying all of this legal stuff can be? It could just be me, as I do deal with a lot of anxiety, but honestly....court, briefs, judges, lots of documents that aren't easily understandable unless you are an attorney and then you need to pay lots of money to have it explained and then feel like an idiot, then actually being in the court room...there are armed people there and you can't escape and these strangers are deciding your life....and it is all so scary.... just a bit freaked out about legal stuff at the moment...in case you couldn't tell lol

It is scary and the process is not particularly logical to outsiders nor is it designed to be comforting. I am sorry you are going through it. No one likes to be in court except lawyers.
Thanks for this!

I give many of my clients who are plaintiffs what I call "the talk." People come to me wanting justice or closure or for the other person to see they were wrong and apologize. I tell them that the legal system is not designed to give them any of those things. I cannot get them any of those things. What I CAN get them is money (and in rare cases, an order requiring the other person to stop doing something, or even rarer cases, an order that the other person has to specifically perform on the contract). If they want closure they should see a therapist. If they want an apology or justice, most likely, they are just out of luck.
Thanks for this!

Thanks MKAC. Really I just want out of my marriage....that's all. I know that I won't get an apology or anything, don't expect or even want that...just want out and for them to leave me alone. Luckily I do have a great T to help with the other stuff. He's about at the end of his tolerance though and is pushing for me to get a restraining order ....ugh...just want it done. Anyway...sorry.

I have given that talk too. And handed out names of three therapists for them to try calling.
Thanks for this!

This is sort of like therapy:

Chairman: Item six on the agenda, the Meaning of Life. Now Harry, you’ve had some thoughts on this.
Harry: That’s right, yeah. I’ve had a team working on this over the past few weeks, and what we’ve come up with can be reduced to two fundamental concepts. One, people are not wearing enough hats. Two, matter is energy. In the Universe there are many energy fields which we cannot normally perceive. Some energies have a spiritual source which act upon a person’s soul. However, this soul does not exist ab initio as orthodox Christianity teaches; it has to be brought into existence by a process of guided self-observation. However, this is rarely achieved owing to man’s unique ability to be distracted from spiritual matters by everyday trivia.
[Pause.]
Max: What was that about hats?

"yeah, I wouldn't have been here but ya know I have this attorney who just drives me nuts" - like that?

Here, it is routine to get a restraining order when filing the divorce. Why didn't your attorney take care of that when he or she filed?
