Got pretty good news today... Being a bit proud of myself but really scared - once I cannot not tell others as it would make me feeling like bragging, second - my boss and H have to know but if I lose in the final I'd prefer that no one would know (especially them) - ech life

Difficult exam. No idea if I passed it (won't know for another couple of weeks or something) but at least it's over now. New course starting on Monday. Statistics. Not looking forward to it since I really don't like math anymore (used to love it as a child).

I think I'm going to spend the evening finishing the book I'm currently reading and starting on a new one.

Feeling a bit low and I really hope it doesn't get any worse today.

I hated math as a child but am learning more now as I see a purpose.

What about an "invitation"?

You can brag here.

One way I use therapists is as an audience for my boasting.
Thanks for this!

Yeah, me too. I have to know a bit of statistics for my research (linguistics) but I only know the bare minimum.

I thought of you today, neutrino - I'm sure your exam went well. And I met with a student, actually a former student who works as a biomedical analyst now, who is finishing their bachelor's thesis on C-reactive proteins. I learnt a lot about those proteins today.

Also, what CE said - please feel free to brag here, someone321. I am curious.

Thanks, I really hope the exam went well.

Anything you thought was particularly interesting (about the C-reactive proteins I mean)?

How the level of CRP can be used to gauge whether there is a virus infection or a bacterial infection, so the doctor can determine whether they need to prescribe antibiotics or not. Apparently this is done routinely in Sweden and other wealthy countries, but it's too costly to do in large parts of the world, so this student was writing about a less expensive method to determine CRP levels.
Thanks for this!

I'm exhausted and I think I'm almost having a migraine or something (sometimes I get this weird thing where the skin on the left side of my face gets really sensitive accompanied with stabbing pains in the back of my head) and all I want to do is sleep. But I live in a corridor, it's Friday night and people got money today. Even though I'm wearing earplugs I can hear people scream and the loud music etc. A few minutes ago the guy living in the room next to mine decided to turn on some really loud music (thankfully he just turned it off again). Also, it's warm and I don't like that (it sort of adds to the other sensory issues I experience). I think I'm getting overloaded, which often results in panic and/or shutdown and/or rage.

Also, I think I'm feeling a bit sad that I don't enjoy things most people my age enjoy (social gatherings, parties, summer activities etc). I feel lonely and ... wrong.

Sorry for complaining.

That's pretty interesting, indeed. We had a case study a few weeks ago where they mentioned elevated CRP levels etc.

So... There is a very prestigious prize in my research are, for which hundreds scientists apply every year and the person who gets it, receives quite a lot of money to found their "innovative" project. No I didn't get it (yet ) but there are 4 selection steps (e.g. Writing an application, then extended research proposal etc) and today I got the e-mail that I'm in the final three and I'm invited to come to their country for the final (presentation + inteview) I don't think that I can win as there are also proffesors applying and I've finished my PhD just a year ago but being in the final is already good and in "the worst" case, I'll have a free trip to another country

An insight, maybe. Madame T sees things in black and white, which is a curious attitude for a therapist.

I'm not trying to control her, I'm trying to persuade her.
I'm not issuing an ultimatum, I'm making a request.
I'm not giving her a sound bite, I'm telling her what I think.

If you succeed in persuading your t, youve accomplished nothing.
If you hear what she thinks, you change the world you live in forever.

I disagree with this - I don't think persuading the therapist matters one way or the other, but I certainly don't put that much store in what a therapist says.

I haven't reached this level of maturity yet. Sorry!

And anyway, it was a useful insight for me because it led to an even better insight. It's always worth while to connect the dots.

So here we have this woman, who is a competent and experienced therapist, seeing in black and white on some very specific issues. Why?

I remember an incident, many years ago, that might have triggered her along these lines and for which she might not have forgiven me. She probably isn't consciously aware of that.

So I'm thinking that if I take responsibility for it and white her an apology, maybe it will make a difference. Can't hurt to try!

Is it OK for me to take responsibility, Hankster?
