First appointment with a potential No. 5 scheduled. At the time my appointment with DBC next Tuesday would have been.

Cactus woman wrote back - her email signature is a cactus emoji? SD, should I run?

One of my early t's in my teens had cacti in his office. Even they seems shriveled and neglected. Cactus t was kind of a cold guy.

My next t after him would rub lemon oil into the individual plant leaves of his ficus. That's more my guy.

Kashi upset me when his plant was dying and he seemed passive about helping it. Now that his plant has rebounded he keeps asking if I'm still going to turn him in to plant protective services.
Thanks for this!

I'd take that as a good sign - You can smash a cactus over her head in case she's too annoying

I hope that at the end you made the requisite solicitous enquiry that it was as good for her as it was for you?

Btw, your talent in finding the weirdly (not-so)wonderful among therapists is highly underrated

ETA: I think everything hinges on whether cactus T talks to the cactus -- if yes, that's true love and they'd have me at "Hello". If not....

GC -- was your lemon oil T rubbing the lemon oil into the leaves during your session? Coz that would be......special.

In case it isn't obvious, I am so jealous that all the Ts I've met have been stultifyingly normal in comparison. Sigh.

I wonder if there's something indicative about a therapist's attention to their office plants. Mine has a huge, floor to ceiling type (don't know the name of it) that she put a special light on, rotates on occasion to make sure the whole thing gets enough light, and turns her chair around to face it in the morning. I only know that last part because I asked one day why the chair was turned around, and I thought she said she did that when she missed the plant. She laughed and said she turned the chair around to m-i-s-t the plant.

I would see a cactus from those people as truth in advertising. Better than those with fuzzy bears or sunsets who are really jerkwads.

I think, but am not certain, that the first one had some dead plants the time I went into her waiting room (I never go in there anymore) - but she shared the space with another therapist in the building -so I don't know who they belonged to. I don't recall seeing plants in either of the ones' I see individual offices

No. 3 had plants in her office, all obviously very lovingly tended to. No. 1 had a couple, but not as many. No. 2 and DBC, no.

Do you suppose the plants react to what goes on in the office? If you read to plants, they grow better, and the higher the level of literature read, the better they grow (supposedly). So since the plants hear stories of trauma and couples fighting, what do they make of it all? Someone should do a study.

Got another appointment for a potential No. 5 for Monday. This one's private pay, which I am not sure I can afford as yet, but she claims to have a sliding scale.

But it's Cactus Woman I really want to meet, if only to satisfy my curiosity.

I thought the plants just liked your carbon dioxide so close to their little plant faces

When I first left school I did a science degree and one of the lecturers was interested in plant communication this was 30 years ago people thought he was odd. We had to listen to a recording of a plant "screaming", his word, while the plant near it was being pruned. He also had recording of plants being pruned, pinching a plants leaf etc etc

Some of you have names for your Ts. I need a nickname for this new T. She was very kind. We are going to do a little CBT. Since you are all discussing plants and stuff-I will say this T didn't have any. However, her office was very "beach" like. She had lamps that were seashells, throw pillows on the couch that had sand and ocean waves on them, a picture on the wall of the ocean, and cream colored furniture. It was almost like being in a small beach house. I'm surprised her furniture wasn't wicker.
Thanks for this!

Who is Shelly?

(which made me then think of Who is John Galt?")

Shelley cause of the shells. It's a p-u-n.

How about Sandy, cause of the sand?

See, Jersey, you have much better taste than I do. I would just call her Beach Babe, BB for short.
