Every time I go to Whole Foods I’m amazed that they can charge 125-150% the price of the same brand items at my supermarket and people still shop there.

Of course I am the sort of person who will go out of her way to spend a dollar less.

It doesn't sound stupid to me. I totally have a dental phobia. I let a cavity go for so long (because the pain would come and go) and by the time it came back and didn't go away, I finally dragged myself in, and it was so bad they couldn't even do a root canal I had to have the tooth pulled. Then I got dry socket which was another whole round of pain.

Yet, I have not been back to the dentist for a checkup since and that was probably already 2 years ago.

Went to the lake today (along with what appeared to be the entire population of a small country) and taking everyone to dinner for D's birthday. She's going to order a drink and I'm not going to freak out. It feels very odd, though. I hid drinking and smoking from my parents even after I was of age. I keep telling myself we have an entirely different relationship and I don't want her to hide. Ah, get over it, self!

SM—I still don’t drink in front of my mother. I just hope she hasn’t found the whisky bottle I stashed in the closet in my room in her house, especially as it’s empty and I forgot to dispose of it before I left last time.

And when she visits I remove any open alcohol bottles and just leave out the sealed boxed bottles that were clearly gifts.

SM...when I became of age, I tried to give my parents a heart attack. When I was 18.. I went outside and lit up a cigarette right in front of my mother. She said when did you start smoking I said NOW, though I didn’t actually smoke. Then when I was 21, I went out and bought a bottle of vodka, brought it home, opened it and poured a shot. My father just looked at me and said sarcastically “yeah, real cute. You smart ass” So, yeah I was unsuccessful. Good on you to make a choice not to freak. At least you know ahead of time she is going to order a drink.
