I just finished my book! My editor signed off, and it is on it's way to the publisher! I get a tiny little stipend, and the publisher makes the big bucks. Tell me again why I pursued academia?

My coauthors are getting ready to pop some champagne. I picked a helluva time to stop drinking. But cheers to that!

It's not the best picture, the colors are brighter than they look here but anyway among all the overtime and stuff going on I've been busy making this baby afghan for one of my work friends. It's about 52 inches across. I loves it.

Couch 183: Stroopwafel salted caramel.

For the joy of leading all those impressionable young minds out of the darkness and into the light?

I am commenting on a student's translation. First problem is it's ecclesiastical Greek, which is annoying as heck because nothing means what it should and the grammar is sloppy, and second problem is nice kid, but he can't translate his way out of a paper bag.

I'm trying to imagine a paper bag that would allow a person to escape if and only if that person is able to properly translate text into Greek.

I'm not getting much of anywhere, but I'm enjoying the process immensely

I am disappointed in Bed and Body Works.

They have my all-time favorite candles, and they were selling six for 75 dollars. Then, when they brought them down to 8 dollars a piece, they are all sold out online. What a disappointment. It makes me want to make my own, however you do that.

I needed to start working on a Christmas project for which I needed to use my sister's serger that is stored in my closet. The problem is, I haven't used the serger for a couple years, and I'd only used it a few times to sew theater costumes.

I had to thread the darn thing.

Which, I realized partway through the process, is WHY it's still in the closet. The manual is missing and the one I could find online is for a slightly newer model. It's just such a pain in the neck (literally, as I am craning and squinting at the teeny-tiny holes and guides) that I usually just pull out my regular sewing machine.

After lots of @#$%, the serger is threaded, and (oddly) I feel like I've regained some of my good humor. Go figure. I'm taking a short snack break, pumpkin buttermilk bread, which came out SO delicious!, then I will start sewing.

Darn it, I was supposed to drive to the mall to get this deal today, but it's raining and nasty so I missed it!

I hope you feel better soon! Do you have one of those pill organizers that you can split up your morning/noon/night doses in? I had to get one for my daughter so she could remember whether she took them or not, to avoid the same thing.

I was going to go, but figured they would be sold out at the mall, also. While Bath and Body works' candles are my all time favorite, Target has 22oz. candles that are ten dollars a piece -- but they go on sale (I'm not sure how frequently). I truly looked into making candles awhile ago because I really love them, maybe I'll try one day. Or not.

I'm sorry you missed out of the deal.

I am so happy that you were able to work through the problem. Pumpkin buttermilk bread sounds good!

I'm working 58 hour weeks right now plus school so I am pooped. 2 more weeks of Psych Stats then I get a little breather from school anyway.

My son is moving out in a week, lots of feelings about that that I hadn't been letting myself feel but finally am.

Anyway. I am sending out hugs to those who want 'em and the standard head nods in the direction of those who don't. I'm only working 8 hours today so maybe I'll spend some time catching up here after I get off work. At least working at home makes all these hours a lot more comfortable!!

That looks really complicated to make. I love the shape and the colors. I tried knitting/crocheting and I just couldn't get the hang of it.

Make it ahead or use leftover grits. You take the left over grits, roll them into a cylinder shape in plastic wrap, refrigerate, and the next day - slice into thinish rounds, salt and pepper them, and fry in bacon grease - yum, yum, yum.
Some people put them in a loaf pan not plastic wrap to set.

I do the same thing with polenta, and just a couple of days ago, did it with kamut. Fried it in butter and ate it with a side of mascarpone with fresh blueberries. Kind of a twist on latkes. It's all good!

Taking care of my mom is difficult. I just told her 'I'll be here if you need me' and she said 'no you won't.' I'm trying so hard but she doesn't want to take her meds and wonders why she isn't getting any better. Childhood stuff messed up with dying stuff. Not a good combo.

Refried polenta was one of my dads favorite dishes. He liked to fry it in the cast iron pan.
