I work in the healthcare field and have had patients on Clozaril. I can tell you for some people, it's a miracle drug. Hopefully this med will work for Bean and she will start to feel better. ![]() |

I got a new laptop and I love it. I had been using a desktop because my old laptop kept overheating. It's nice to be able to stay in bed but still be on a computer. I missed that.

Oh ok that's great for me the socialization was about being constantly doing something...it felt pushed beyond my baseline without any meds.

I also experience muscle stiffness in my legs but more so in my jaw which sometimes can be a challenge when eating or speaking. I've tried Cogentin and Artane but the trade off was greater side effects which caused more problems for me so I don't take anything and just deal with the muscle stiffness. Other than the dystonia Geodon manages my sza well.

I'm okay. I just have a lot going on. Sometimes I don't post if all I have is negative. I don't want to bring anyone down with my mess. I'm just trying to stay as busy as possible in order to keep from dealing with the mess that goes on inside my head. I'm trying very hard to stay positive and just push through. Thanks for thinking of me. Even when I don't post I'm still keeping up with Roll Call. If I get behind it is hard to catch up ![]() |

Haldol definately causes weight gain that is what Newtus is on---comparable to risperidone from what I remember but not as bad as zyprexa. There are only 3 that are weight neutral that I'm aware of....abilify, geodon and latuda...

I've tried geodon, I was on it for 2 months. My psych nurse said u have to eat 750 calories with it, which was a pain to keep up with and it caused severe nausea in me. And if I was late taking it I would vomit. And it didn't really work that we'll, and I was on a high dose. Still haven't tried ability, I forgot about that one. |

Weight gain induced by haloperidol, risperidon... [Schizophr Res. 2008] - PubMed - NCBI
So here is a study on haldol, risperidone and zyprexa---these are people receiving initial meds so what happens is people on haldol gain maybe a little less the first 3 months but by the end of a year people on all three meds have gained 20 pounds. So I have seen meta-analysis of haldol suggesting lower weight gain but haldol is not a first line treatment and according to my pdoc you pretty much gain all the weight you're going to in the first year then its stable after that so trials where people have already been on APs for a year really aren't valid for this kind of comparison IMO.

I have a feeling at the end of this med merry go round I'm gonna end up on risperdal...Then what am I gonna do? Just end up even more overweight. This sucks. I wish I didn't have to take a ap at all. Since that psychosis everything has changed. I get paranoid easier and my cognitive abilities aren't like they were before. I go into mixed states and manias more. The psych nurse said if I can stay stable for a year we can try and go off of them. Damn mental illness. ![]() |
