Also thanks to everyone who has been supporting me these past few days or so. I've had a tough time figuring stuff out. I at least think I know what I want to do now.

My ambition is to be a professional writer though.

So if your heart is not in translation.....well you need a plan B. Can you support yourself right now....like enough cash etc even if you’re at home. What have you written? Any of the artsy jobs at least initially require a day job. Before you quit school for good though put your writing out there and see if people like it....this could be as simple as a blog but you need to see if you can find an audience. Sometimes having that kind of outlet is enough sometimes you need more.

Just a word of caution....I love doing paintings but it’s only mediocre so I couldn’t do it professionally....loving something isn’t always enough for that......

I write. Idk if I can call myself a professional writer, because even though I make money writing, I don’t make a lot right now. But I write about mental health issues. That is my niche.

@WastingAsparagus

I have to admit, too, writing is hard. And it’s not the writing so much that makes it hard, it’s about being able to consistently put work out, in order to be professional. I have days when I don’t know what to write, but mostly days where I don’t feel up to writing.

But ambition definitely is part passion and part drive. Even though I have a heck of a passion for writing, I have to consistently push to put out work. Whether I want to or not, unfortunately. I mean, as far as being professional. Which can get tough. That’s probably the toughest part. The writing part is easy.

I believe you can do it. I really do.

I started by sending my work to magazines both online and in print. I worked super hard but I also had this amazing drive and motivation while I had my regular job. I ended being published to places like on Yahoo .com, The Mighty. A few indie blogs, Parade magazine (which is a print magazine you find on magazine shelves in the store), and even ended up working with a major pharmaceutical company (which was my biggest piece and got the most money for). I have a blog too.

But those last 2 I was sought out for my work because I consistently put my work out there the whole last year and some parts of years before that.

I truly believe you can do it. You just gotta find that drive.

Fiction, mainly. I also like writing essays and nonfiction pieces.

I do think for now though that I'm going to stay in school for translation and just work extra hard on both things, writing and translation.

Because I really enjoy translation as well.

I know it's probably not evident that I like translation immediately, but I really do love languages. That's essentially why I like to write. Because of my love of languages.

Anyway, I really do appreciate everyone's thoughtful replies.

I had to put my cat to sleep today. He was 19. He had a cyst on his face and a mass in his bladder. He was starting to get really skinny. It wasn’t fair to keep him along. It would be selfish.

Man, this last year or so has sucked. Had to put one dog to sleep end of last May. Then one of our dogs suddenly got sick and passed this March. Now my cat.

He was my sweet prince Roll Call 167 :)

I'm already having gastrointestinal issues from metformin. Today was day 1 so hopefully that eases the longer I'm on it.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to get someone to like me, only I'm trying too hard. And my efforts have fallen short. So now I feel like I'm a loser. My head is telling me no one likes me and even though I know it isn't true, it's hard not to get sucked into those feelings. I know feelings lie. But they are awful good at it.

As in friendship or dating? I can tell you I must have met twenty putatives in each category before finally finding someone who liked me and I liked them too. It’s hard work.

Besides we all like you here Roll Call 167 :)
