That's fantastic, Guiness! Since your screen name is Guiness, I thought that's what you drank (it was a favorite of mine). It just goes to show you that you shouldn't make assumptions! Huge, huge anniversary, dude! Congrats!
Thanks for this!

Stay the course - 5 days will soon become a week, 1 week becomes 2...

Have you contacted the old childhood friends? Or one of your 3 likely to stand by you? It could do you some good to spend time with others enjoying life without drugs.

If the person doing that is on a list of friends, I think I would cross them off. Please hang tough.

Guiness, Well done on a year. Your name is my favourite beer - nothing quite like a pint or 4 after work. I hope you did something nice for yourself to celbrate.

Jess - congrats on 5 days. That's huge. Can you get away from the situation where the people are using? If it's at your place, go for a walk, or retreat to your bedroom. You don't need the temptation.

Thank you! Someone waved a line under my nose and offered it up as soon as I got back from my walk. 😤😞

I don't think I would call it civil to tempt someone who is trying to quit. The thing is, even if you aren't being preachy, you are threatening just because it's a reminder that what they are doing has consequences that are best avoided. Deep down, every meth user knows this can't go on indefinitely. Once you admit that, doing it anymore seems like a really bad choice.

splitimage,

How is rehab going? I bet it's great getting together with your old counsellor & being around other folks serious about staying sober. Keep us posted.

I know it's a bad choice too but I am still so easily tempted. I know it can't go on indefinitely but something keeps saying "yeah but you don't have to stop YET"

That something won't quiet on its own; you have to silence it. It's huge that you have taken the first step. Get up with your old friends and make new ones. If you listen to that "something", it will only get harder to stop. Your best chance of breaking the cycle is in front of you right now.

You slipped. Just don't slip away. Meth and opioids both scare me. They ruin lives so much faster than most of our vices. I am not suggesting you switch to a different vice, just letting you know why I feel a sense of urgency. You are smart enough to have realized that you should step away. Don't lose sight of that.

Jesslyn,

I've relapsed on alcohol more times than I can count, and each time came back and started over. You can start over too. Now. I've heard meth is really hard to quit, especially if you're still around users who are offering it to you. Can you get those people out of your life - enlist your GF's help. She sounds like she wants you clean. Go to NA - it may not be entirely your thing, but you'll find people who have been what you're going through, and survived. You may even make some new clean friends.

From your avatar - I'm assuming it's your picture - you look young. You still have your whole life ahead of you. Don't let it be ruined by drugs.

Emgreen,

Being back in rehab is great. And I really like the changes they've made to the program - more DBT is being included. I'm also still seeing my addictions Dr. one on one for counselling and she's amazing.

My group this time is a bunch of really hardcore alcoholics/addicts - people who have lost a lot, and done a lot of damage to themselves with drinking. Most of them are older than me, and I really don't want to wind up there, so it's good motivation to.

I'm still getting cravings to drink periodically but just thinking them through to the end, is enough to deal with them pretty quickly.

I've also gone back to double recovery meetings, on top of WFS, and they're really great. I'm also thinking about giving SMART recovery meetings a try. There are a lot more of them weekly, now, than when I last looked at them.

It's pretty scary. I'm applying for disability, and so have to get copies of all my hospital records relating both to my depression and my addiction. I just got my copy of my record when I went in for detox after a very dangerous binge in 2006. It's scary to read how sick I was. If I hadn't gone in when I did, I probably wouldn't be here. Good reality check.

Split image it's cool how you just come outta nowhere it's expecting the unexpected in some ways.

You talked about cravings as though you want them to go away as an person with alcoholism whose sober I don't think they truly go away to be honest. it's like being so long drinking my emotions away in a bottle it's like now I am suffering consequences through psychosis.

I spent 18 years of my life drinking all my teen years right until I was 31 years old...I watch as others in my family that cannot go a day without drinking something it's like somehow it's been made socially acceptable to get drunk all the time.

Yet some how it's like if I drink it's unacceptable but if they drink it's acceptable a total double standard. And they are mean people when they are drinking and to be honest I don't really think I want to be like them.

I don't know...I just know that I am facing so many health problems since I stopped then when I started it's difficult to deal with!

Anyways you can do this!!!
